Starting to see some color…
As the other reviewer already mentioned, the scent and creaminess of this lotion are above average from what I would expect from a "Suave" product. My wife’s skin is light/medium and within a couple of applications the hue had started to change…and not to an orange! 🙂
The tan looks natural
The tan looks natural; the challenge is to remember to use it everyday! It’s a gradual tan, so no streaking. I have two tubes of this as I intend to keep using it. As with all self-tanners, I stop when I get the level of tan desired, and wait a day or two in between applications. I am looking for a sun-kissed look, not a dark tan. Recommended. Smells and feels wonderful.
I would have liked a darker color.
This is great. It smells wonderful it goes on like lotion. I rub it in really well from foot to upper thigh to get really good coverage. I have used jergens in the past and really liked it and this is very similar. You have to put it on and repeat every day for a nice tan glow. When you shave you loose some of the color. So using this as a regular lotion everyday is suggested. Rubbing it in well is also really important so there is no streaking.
Consistent overall color!
I am a big fan of self-tanners, especially Jergen’s. Every year, I start using it in early March to get ready for spring. Upon first inspection, I liked the clean scent of this new Suave product. It was light and not overpowering. The lotion is very creamy and glides on your skin. I couldn’t get over how easy it was to rub it in. I followed the recommended instructions for application making sure I brushed over the difficult areas like knees, elbows, and knees. By nighttime, I was already seeing a hint of color. I am definitely going to switch to Suave this season for my gradual tan. Love it!!
Great tint, easy to use
This is my first time using a self-tanner, and I am very happy with the results. Let me say at the outset that I’ve never tanned. I mean never, ever, ever. I’m one of those brunette, blue-eyed white-porcelain toned people, and any ventures I’ve had out in the sun without SPF 25 or higher turned me very pink or red, not brown. (You know how people always say, "Oh, don’t worry, you’re burn will fade into a tan." No, uh-uh.)So I really was glad to rate this; I love Suave, they really do sell comparable stuff to the higher end brands (although their prices are no longer half of what the other guys’ are). This was easy to use, very moisturizing and not greasy (a plus for me with my paper-dry skin). The lotion is said to be "streak free", but they also are careful to tell you to spread it evenly on all desired areas. I failed to do this with one of my legs at first and looked a little silly (although the place I missed help me to see the tone of the treated skin a little better and confirm it looked great!). That was fixed by paying more attention to the "missed" areas the next day. This is supposed to be applied daily. I notice that the color takes a couple of days and a couple of showers to fade, so it’s good to keep in mind you might need several bottles for the bikini season.
Natural Color, but Streaks & Odor were Minor Annoyances
The thing about self tanners is… they never REALLY look real. Now perhaps that doesn’t matter. If you just need a little color on your legs after a long cold winter, then this product is fine and is certainly as good as any of its competitors. But ALL of these products have two main problems, and this one is no exception.Problem 1 – if the lotion is not tinted, it is very hard to apply it evenly. If you don’t apply it evenly, you will end up with streaks. There is just no way around that. And while it looked fine after days 1 and 2, by day 3 of application and beyond, I was noticing where it had been applied unevenly.Problem 2 – all of these sunless tanning products have an odor. This one is probably less bad than many of its competitors, but it still has that tell-tale chemical smell. However, it did moisturize, and the color was gradual and was not orange or an unnatural color.Pros:- Inexpensive- Gradually tans- No orange or fake looking tan- MoisturizingCons:- Slight chemical smell- If not applied evenly, streaks will developFor an inexpensive, self tanning product, this one will certainly do the trick. Just be careful to apply as evenly and thoroughly as possible, and don’t forget to wash your hands with soap and water after applying! The product isn’t listed in the EWG Cosmetic Safety database, but it does contain some quantity of propylparaben, which is cited by the EWG as a high risk ingredient under some circumstances.[…]Reviewed by spouse Ann Latner.
Natural looking results!
I do really like this self tanner. It is easy to apply, I was really impressed the way it blends and I’ve never experienced any streaking with this as I have with other self tanners. It smells good, seems to dry fast and I have never had a problem with the palms of my hands being discolored. Also, it is a natural looking tan, not orange and fake. I feel like I saw results even after using as little as two times. However I feel like after using for about a week, I had a healthy looking tan but don’t expect to get a dark tan from this. As far as color goes, it seems to reach a plateau after about a week. It is great to use at the beginning of bathing suit season so you can have a healthy glow when you go to the pool. Do make sure you moisturize your elbows, knees, and if you have any dry skin problem areas. As usual it says to use sparingly around the ankles, knees and elbows. It will make your elbow look orange if your skin is dry. I sometimes applied a little dab of moisturizer first and then sparingly used this on my elbows. I would recommend this product and I will purchase it again.
I looked like an Oompa Loompa in spots.
So after day 1, I was thinking to myself, I think I already see some color. Nah, can’t be. Can it? Yes, there was already color after the first application. Day 2, still darker. i’m thinking, sheesh. It’s day two and I’m already super dark. Plus, I seem to be looking slightly like an Oompa Loompa. I definitely, skipped day 3 but at this point I’m thinking, I have to try it for at least 30 days or so right? After day 4 there was no chance of me continuing with this product. I was thanking my lucky stars that it’s still early in the season and too cold for shorts because there was no way I’d be wearing them. Not with how my legs looked orange and streaky and some parts looked dirty because they were so dark and splotchy.I’m really disappointed with this product. I’m not sure if it’s my coloring and I got too dark of a tanner or if it would do this either way. I double checked the directions to make sure I was applying it right and I was.I applied this after my morning shower and waited about 10 minutes for it to dry and when dressing I felt a little sticky. It goes away after a few minutes but it’s a pretty weird feeling. At first I thought I wasn’t leaving enough time to dry but I was.All in all I doubt I’ll use this product again. I’ve used other products with better results. I think if I had just left it after the first day I would have been happy.
Suave Gradual Self Tanner
This is the first time I’ve tried a self tanner. I didn’t like the smell much. But I thought it was a good consistency for applying on my skin. I’m pleased with the color on my legs, after just a few times of use. Recommended.
Sauve Professionals Gradual Self Tanner
Just as the weather is turning warmer and more legs are showing my tube of self tanner arrived from Amazon. This is a smooth glide on to your skin…without any greasy stinky residue. The tan goes as dark as you want with each application. Once you reach the right color you want just stop daily applications and apply less often for the acquired tan. The best part…well one of the best parts is it does not have that yucky burnt smell that comes with many self tanners. Get yours at Amazon at a great price and be TAN.
Suave Self Tanner, Fair to Medium
I use this lotion as soon as I get out of the shower. It is gentle enough that I even use it on my face. It absorbs quickly. Once it is absorbed it does not rub off. I noticed color the first day. Today is day five and I have a good base color. I wore shorts yesterday and my legs look tan. There is a scent to this that remains with you, it reminds me of crayons. It is not an offensive odor, but it is there. I have used Jergens and Oil of Olay in past years, this one absorbs quicker and costs less. I will be using this one.
My favorite-ever self-tanner. Golden tan. No orange, no streaks.
I am really happy to have found this self tanner. It goes on smooth. It doesn’t make streaks or turn orange. It feels good on the skin and even includes moisturizer. It smells great, too.If you’ve tried self tanners and been disappointed, you’ll be happy with this one. The Suave self tanner works as promised, over time, providing a natural-looking tan.Highly recommended.
Slightly smelly, but does the job
I don’t know if you can get any self-tanning lotion that does not smell a bit like rancid movie popcorn butter. So far they have all smelled that way to me, however this one is not quite as powerful-smelling as some I have tried in the past. I like the look for fair skin – the tan is very light, so it does not tend to look fakey – only I got a little too much around the toes and ankles, for a bit of a ‘dirty’ look, but it’s not horrible, and you can remedy these problems easily by adjusting your application methods. It seems like a very good product, especially considering the price.
works well, no offensive smell
Having read a few other reviews about the smell of this lotion, I’d have to disagree. I find nothing strong or offensive about the smell. It is a light scent and scarcely noticeable to me. The lotion goes on well and feels good on my legs. I have light, fair skin color and after a few hours I do notice a slight color already on my skin. The color is bit warmer tan than some of the other self-tanning lotions I’ve tried (Coppertone is one of my favorites), but it’s not orange. Generally I put the lotion on two days in a row and that gives me just about enough color that I’m looking for, sometimes I’ll do it 3 days in a row then not use it for a few more days. Kind of nice that you can sort of tailor the color to your liking – though I would say you need at least 2 days worth to really notice.I give this 5 stars because it is as good as the others I’ve tried and I’d definitely buy it again.
Works well, with very little smell
I have probably tried most of the sunless tanners on the market and I don’t like most of them. I am very sensitive to the smell of what ever chemical is in them. I can’t stand the smell. I would rather be ghost white than smell that stuff.I am please to say that I was very pleasantly surprised with the Sauve Professionals Self Tanner. It has very little odor, and works quite well. I tried it on one leg, since it’s still winter here and no one will see my one tanned leg. I had no problem with streaking, it went on very smooth, and I noticed a difference after 2 applications. So now I have one beautifully tanned leg, and one that is ghost white. I gave this product 4 stars because it still has a chemical odor, but definitely manageable. I will purchase this product again.
Pleasant to Deal With, Works Extremely Well
My girlfriend used this, here’s what she says about it. This an affordable, utterly competent self-tanning lotion that achieves a realistic sun-kissed tone on fair to medium skin tones. The lotion itself is thin and easy to spread – not tacky, and it has a light, very pleasant smell; it’s not cloying perfume-y smell, nor does it smell like the mineral pigments so often used in tanners and makeup.Unlike other similar lotions I have tried, Visible Glow is not so tinted that it leaves one’s hands, clothing, or towels with orange streaks. As long as the usual “use sparingly” spots on the body (knees, ankles, elbows) are spared, the skin darkens naturally and does not get overly orange-colored. It’s not a miracle product since washes off with a shower or two and a close shave (most self-tanners do), but in general, it does exactly what it’s supposed to do and does it well. After trying Visible Glow, I am sure I’ll I will use this brand going forward.
nice and subtle
This is definitely a gradual self tanner. After using it a couple of times on my legs I wasn’t sure if it was doing anything or not. A quick test patch on my torso did show a visible change with one use, however. The pros are that this is going to be subtle and look natural. You aren’t going to accidentally end up too dark or orange. You don’t need to be overly cautious about streaks; I like that I can smooth it on and run out the door if I’m wearing a dress. (I did prep with some regular lotion on dry parts like knees so they wouldn’t soak up more color.) The smell isn’t strong or unpleasant. However, "gradual" does mean you need to use it often. If you really want to look tan you’ll want something stronger, or at least may want to try the darker shade of this product.
Smells nice and doesn’t leave your skin orange
I have super pale skin — thanks to my half-Scandinavian ancestry! — and finally gave up on self-tanners two years ago since I could never find an affordable one that didn’t leave me streaky and orange, no matter how carefully I applied it. I decided to take a chance on this Suave one — and really like it!The front of the tube states that it’s comparable to St. Tropez’s tanners, and I would agree. The St. Tropez one I tried a few years ago has been the only self-tanner that actually creates a realistic-looking tan on my skin, but it’s very expensive. This new Suave one is definitely similar. One of the other things I hate about self-tanners is that awful smell that’s left behind because of the DHA that colors your skin. This doesn’t have that smell at all!It also sinks in very quickly, and I’ve been able to apply this right after shaving my legs, with no burning or stinging of my sensitive skin.I really like this, and think it’s made me convert back to using self-tanners again!
This works just match the correct skin tone
I have used this for two weeks and the progression of color is exactly as described and unlike other self tanning products does not dry your skin out. You do need to make sure you pick up the match for your skin tone because it can look off color if you do not which is not the product issue but a need to be dark when you cannot be.
Nice inexpensive alternative
I’ve used similar self-tanners so can compare this Suave Professionals Gradual Self Tanner to them. Like the more expensive ones, all you need to do is squeeze some out of the tube and spread it on you body — arms, legs, wherever you want to, except your face. There was really little streaking afterwards and I noticed a slight tan the next day. For the springtime I don’t need a deep tan, so the light tan was more effective. I will be purchasing this in the future when I’m in need of a self-tanner. Though the reason I gave it four stars rather than five is because of the same issue with many of the self-tanners….they leave a smell on your body. Get rid of the odorous aroma and it would be perfect.
Will continue to use
I like the subtle color and have had no issues with streaking or orange skin tone. I make sure I use a washcloth on my legs in the shower and I think that buffs enough dead skin off to ensure an even application. My favorite aspect of this cream is not the color it gives me, it’s the moisture it adds. With other self tanners, my legs would stay dry and even eventually get flaky. This cream also has a much nicer scent than all the others I’ve tried. I would like to use this on my face, but don’t want to risk a reaction. (I’m always searching for a facial gradual self tanner that won’t cause allergic problems.)
Works well, pleasnt smell
My daughter has used this lotion 4 times. She tells me: It has a light color (no orange tint, as with some tanning lotions). She is able to build her skin tone with additional applications. It helps to exfoliate first and then apply it with care to get it smooth and even. Also, this lotion has a pleasant smell to it (some brands do not smell good at all!).Recommended.
Natural looking, streak free tan
I typically use L’Oreal’s Sublime instant bronzing lotion but there are two things that I don’t like about it, 1) it has a lot of shimmer that borders on glitter and unless the occasion calls for it, it’s just too much and 2) it makes my legs feel very itchy the next day after I’ve applied it. Therefore I was eager to try something new and I’m so happy with this sunless tanner. The first thing that I liked was the scent, it’s very pleasant and it doesn’t have the typical offensive odor that most sunless tanners have. The second thing that I liked is that this is a lotion that gradually builds up to the desired results and it doesn’t cause streaking because of the subtle buildup. Lastly, the tan looks like a natural color and it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. I’m very pleased with this sunless tanner and will continue to use this in the future.
Light, easy to apply, and does what it promises
As a pale chick of Celtic extraction, every once in awhile I’ll go on a tear in search of the perfect self-tanner products, and they almost always turn me a gentle orange or are more trouble than they’re worth. However, I was pretty impressed with Suave’s gradual self-tanner here. You receive a generous amount, in an easy to dispense tube, and the product goes on lightly and silkily, not greasily. The lotion is pleasant, and the best part is, the self-tan just kind of shows up throughout the day, as if you were a film negative just gently turning gold. The tan color is pretty and believable, and not overly orange. In all, I’m a fan, and would use this again. Maybe this Summer Suave will help me turn a color darker than vanilla (healthily, of course)!
Not bad, better smelling than some other gradual tanners
I have super pale skin, so I tried using the Fair-Medium version of this Suave self tanner. As with most self tanners, I get the best results by being sure to exfoliate really well before starting. Salt and sugar scrubs work the best, being sure to scrub really well around the knees, ankles and elbows. Also before applying the tanner, I take a dab of regular lotion and apply it to my knees and elbows. This helps moisturize those areas since they tend to absorb the tanner even more than the rest of the skin, and helps prevent from them getting darker than the areas around them, which can happen with self tanning lotions. This is a very gradual tanning lotion, so you don’t need to be quite as perfect with your application as you might need to be with an overnight tanner. By tanning in stages, it’s helps prevent streaks. It also helps make it look a bit more natural with other people. If you are at work on a Monday and you’re pale, then on Tuesday morning you come in and are dark tan, everyone will know you got it from a bottle. Using the gradual tanner, it’s far less noticeable. The lotion from this tanner doesn’t smell nearly as bad as some do when they are developing. So it’s easier to wear without smelling bad. After about 3 applications it gives skin a slight glow of a tan. Suave gradual self tanner is a great way to get sun kissed skin without overdoing it and looking like an orange.
This is just as good as, if not better than, the leading brand. It gave me subtle, even color without looking streaky, dirty or orangey. I let it develop overnight, and that seemed to do the trick. It of course has that old familiar self-tanner smell, but there’s no getting away from that. I’ll be using this all summer long.
Better than Jergins
I love this product. It gives you an amazing tan that looks like you been outside tanning or in the tanning bed, no one will know you got it from a bottle. I’ve had no streaks and there is no self tanner odor like some other self tanners out there. I have red hair and really pale skin and this product has given me the tan I ve been dreaming of. I’ve been a die hard Jergens self tanner fan for a while but no more after using this product. I highly recommended this product to anyone.
Good gradual tanner
Forget any preconceived ideas about Suave being an inexpensive brand, because this Suave self-tanning lotion is pretty good stuff. It reminds me a little bit of the Jergens natural glow with how gradually it tans, although the color of the tan is a little darker. It takes about three days for the color to bloom on my legs (that’s the only place I use self-tanner), and then I use this a couple of times a week for maintenance. It’s a great product for the spring and summer time.I’m having a little trouble getting the color even, but I’ll chalk that up to me being absolutely terrible at applying any kind of tanner. Every product I’ve ever used has resulted in patchy or streaky color, so the fault has to lie with me and not the product. My only complaint about this product is the odor, which is faint. It has that self-tanner tang to it, and on the days that I apply this lotion to my legs, I smell it on and off all day long. Not especially pleasant. I have to admit, however, that this product has much less odor than any other gradual tanner that I’ve used.Overall, I’m quite impressed with this product. I’ll probably buy another tube once I’ve finished this one up.
Suave Professionals Gradual Self Tanner, Visible Glow-Fair-Medium, 7.5 oz.
Love this product! It’s amazing the nice tan tone you receive when applying everyday. However, I was just amazed by how fast it faded away when not applying for a day or two. I wanted to test both ways. A very good product, no orange-tones anymore. Yay! Chemical tanning products have come along way. I don’t know all the chemical processes but it would be even nicer if it didn’t fade so fast.
This is my favorite self tanner so far
I have used several different self tanners, and have had good results, and bad results. The most recent one that I used wasJergens Natural Glow Firming Moisturizer, Fair to Medium Skin Tones 7.5 Ounces. I liked the color, but it rubbed off on sheets and clothes, even several days after you applied it. It also washes off too easily. The Suave doesn’t do this. I really like the color! I apply it evenly, and thinly on my arms, legs and neck. A couple hours later, I notice some color. I apply it the next morning, and 2 more mornings after that, until I get a color that I like, then I go to every other day, or every 2 days depending on how it looks. It didn’t streak, or turn my orange. I am ghostly pale, so pale in fact, the lightest shade of concealer is too dark for my skin. That being said, this self tanner looked good, and didn’t make me look fake when I used it. I wash my hands immediately after using it, and I have had no color show up later. This is by far my most favorite self tanner, and I will be using it all summer. I suggest giving it a try!
