Well i already know this product works which is why i gave it 5 stars so the product isnt in question the question is how will my skin respond? Ive done massive research on this product and tca peels in general and i love that this peel neutralizes itself i cant wait to peel but it wont be peeling until after july 6th because i have a series of important meeting I must attend and then i will peel cant wait I will post any extra info on my review if needed but, i am familar with this product due to other people! Let me mention i am afro american with medium skin tone and i bought the 15% Tca I have mild acne scaring and sun damage and this is my first time peeling!
Very Happy With Product Performance
I read a few reviews before deciding on what strength to buy; I settled on the 15% thanks to Browndivagurl’s review. I washed with Castille Soap, patted dry and had a bowl of Baking Soda paste on standby (good tip by the way, Browndivagurl, thanks!). I’ve had these professionally done before so I know how they burn and sting.I used the gauze pad included in my order (word of advice people – please use latex gloves or your fingers will peel!) and gave myself the first pass. After 5 long minutes in front of my AC I didn’t frost, so I did a second pass (Please, please, PLEASE don’t do this unless you have previous experience with this procedure; I’ve spent enough money on professionals to know what I was doing and I still managed to get too close to my eye area and burn the skin under my eyebrow). Tears rolled down my cheeks, but after a minute I finally frosted, so I ran to the bathroom to neutralize with my baking soda paste (dab it on, do not rub it on or you WILL injure your skin). Then I rinsed for a good 5 minutes with cold water. I used Neosporin and jojoba oil, but that wasn’t emollient enough so I switched to A&D; ointment to keep my face moist.Days one and two, my face was super oily (I washed often and reapplied) but fairly normal looking except every blemish on my face appeared darker; I was a little self conscious, but it’s nothing I haven’t experienced before. I had to eat my food in small bites because my face became so tight I couldn’t open my mouth wide and I didn’t want to crack and possibly scar my face. I also layered on SPF45 before going outdoors. This is very important so you don’t peel poorly or have discoloration, especially if you’re ethnic.Day three I started to peel. I just continued my routine, but stayed indoors more because my face got darker and I knew from past experience I’d be a shedding mess soon.Days four and five I was a shedding mess. I just added more A&D; ointment, especially to the unpeeled areas.Today is day six and I’m mostly peeled. The outer edges of my face, my forehead and under my chin/neck aren’t finished peeling, but the majority of the job is done. I still wear the SPF45 and will continue to do so until I can resume my regular skincare routine, but at least now I can resume my regular activities without my face being two-toned and slathered in ointment. Thankfully, even my eyebrow burn slid off without leaving any marks.I am very happy with this product for a number of reasons:*It’s extremely cost effective and you don’t have to rely on aestheticians or dermatologists who charge top dollars for what is essentially a simple procedure.*I love that I can do it on my own in my own time in the privacy of my own home. I remember one time I had a spa do it for me and they did the first application, then sent me home with the rest to do on my own. For hundreds of dollars and with very little instructions (they never even provided a neutralizer, so my face was on fire all night and the next day!). Skin obsession gives you a nice sized bottle that will last you several applications and they give you pretty thorough directions. I was able to do it at night before bed, not in the middle of my busy day.*I like that it doesn’t take you away from your activities for more than a week. I had a peel done a few years ago that had me out of commission for damn near two weeks. Granted it was a stronger peel, but I didn’t even start peeling until day 7, so I was uncomfortable for a week with limited ability to eat or to emote. My family and friends were actually worried about me and my appearance was pretty scary. Then after all of the hoopla, my face was tender, but relatively unchanged except for my skin tone being lighter. Finally, and most importantly, I like how my face looks. A week ago I had major discoloration from a bad breakout. Today, my face is smoother and the discoloration is to a bare minimum (you’ll never have 100% clear skin as long as you have acne prone skin). I can actually go out without foundation and not feel self conscious! Granted, I do take care of my skin; I exfoliate and moisturize regularly, drinks lots of water and eat lots of fruits and veggies and I make sure to supplement with EFAs (essential fatty acids – look it up). But two weeks ago, stress undid all of my good work. If it weren’t for this peel I would be calling my spa to make an appointment to undo the mess, waiting God knows how long for a convenient appointment time.I plan to repeat this procedure in the winter. The instructions say every 6 weeks, but that just seems too soon in my opinion. I’ll just go back to my Glycolic treatments and Microdermabrasion to keep my complexion in check until then.Thank you Skin Obsession for giving me the ability to take matters into my own hands safely and effectively. It really is a wonderful feeling to not have to be a the mercy of doctors and spas for a change and not to feel self conscious about your face. Some more words of advice:1. Have everything you need prepared in advance before you start the procedure. Once you apply the product you’ll be stinging, burning and irrational and time is of the essence.2. Don’t try to hurry the peeling skin along or rub it off; you’ll just make the skin underneath raw and irritated.3. Pat everything you apply to your face on gently, do not try to rub it in or you’ll tear your face somewhere and risk getting a scar/discoloration.4. Treat your face very gently for at least a week before going back to your regular routine. Do not rub or pick at your skin or any new pimples. Baby your skin with gentle irritant free products.
I did this about a month ago and will do it again the day after Black Friday(in just a couple days). It really works. After a few days, you start molting like snake. No major discoloration and molting isnt thick either. The process went on for a couple of weeks, but not in such a major way where you feel the need to hide from the world for those weeks. It’s kind of like the peeling that happens after that weekend at the beach. One thing I must emphasize though, is that you really should not exfoliate at all for a week prior to this. I have also done the 12.5 TCA peel and didn’t pay much mind to the warning about exfoliating ahead of time, and my face was beet red for over a week. Did not have that problem this time with the higher concentration because I actually followed the directions. =DAlso, make sure you use lotions with SPF 15 or higher after this—the barer skin is, the more sensitive and prone to sun damage
Perfect percent for a first timer or a professional
TCA is the best peel for scars, uneven tone and acne. It cannot be used with dark complexions though as it may cause uneven tone so a LA peel is recommended instead. I have used this product on countless clients and myself with great results. I highly recommend this product but please research your skin type and desired results before using any peel. I personally use this after a mircodermabrasion peel or GA peel to give a deeper peel but this is still a medium peel. You need to get a fan brush to apply, an acid neutralizer (not baking soda) and neosporin for the first 48 hours. After that i recommend my clients use a non retinol lotion such as aveeno naturals calming and coca butter vaseline over the lotion twice daily until the 7th day. I also suggest sensitive skin non exfoliating cleanser until the peel has completed. I recommend the l’oreal go 360 for sensative skin as it comes with a silicone scrublet which is gentle enough that it wont cause early peeling but skill removes peeled skin. Whatever you do please do not use a retinol lotion or a bb cream while peeling. Do not apply this product anywhere near eyes or on lips.
Skin Obsession 15% TCA Acid Chemical Peel For Anti Aging and Acne Skin…
This is a great peel providing that you follow the instructions! Very important. It helps my skin renew and feel fresh. It also helps with the my oily skin. I have purchased this and other peels and this is one of my favorites.
I am 39 and have very fair skin, with a few small acne scars on my left cheek and very few fine lines around my mouth and forehead.I started out trying a Salicylic Acid 20% peel. It did nothing to my skin but burn a little. I was told I should try a TCA peel instead, so I went with Skin Obsession 15% TCA Peel. I could tell a big difference in the two products. I used Q-tips to apply. The TCA 15% had my face frosting very quickly, my first use. I washed it off in cold water at 6 minutes, actually just dunked my face in my bathroom sink which was filled with water for about 30 seconds. My face was red like a sunburn. After I dried my face I put Cool Aloe I.C.E. with lidocaine gel on my face and let it dry to get rid of the red sunburn look and also to take away the pain (I use this also if I get sunburn and by the next day I’m no longer red as a lobster.) I used the Cool Aloe 3 times the first day.The next day I had just a slight pink face where I had used the peel and I had no swelling. Day 3 no redness or pink. The 5th day my face started to look really dry and almost as if I had dried elmers glue on my face. By day 7 I was peeling slightly, day 9 peeling a lot, day 13 I was washing the last bit of peeling skin off my face with a wet washcloth. I then started using Aveeno baby soothing relief moisture cream on my face.Day 15 my face was smooth and the fine lines around my mouth were faint, can barely even see them, and the scarring on my left cheek were less noticeable. They weren’t completely gone, but my skin there was no longer rough and bumpy textured. Day 18 no breakouts, and my skin was very smooth and looked much more youthful. I will update after the next use.
I used lactic acid a few times before the tca. This was my first time using tca so I started with a low percentage. Anyone who says it “tingles” on your face is nuts! It burnt like having acid on your face!! Seriously! I used the blow dryer on cool which helped but it really did hurt, which is what I expected, after all, it is acid! lol Anyway, it frosted & I neutralized it & all is well. Unless you are a stupid person this is easy to do. I am waiting to peel & am excited to see what results I get. Plan to do it several more times in the future mostly for age spots. Would definitely recommend.*UPDATEIt has been 9 days since my peel & I am VERY happy with the results. I have always read these reviews & thought, yeah right, someone actually wrote a review! But I really wanted people to know that this stuff works! My age spots are MUCH lighter, my skin is smoother, and I can’t wait to do it all again! I dont have alot of wrinkles but the age spots have been a real pain for me. No more!! Once or twice more & they will be gone!! Love it!!!:)
I really like this as an alternative to going to get a professional peel. It’s really easy to do. It may be different for other people, but for me it stings so bad it makes my eyes water, but blowing a fan on it helps, and it’s worth it. I look normal for about 2 days, then get a really obvious peel everywhere I put it, so I know it’s working. I feel like my skin looks really good after I do it.
I love my skin now!!!!!!
At first I thought I might have sold myself to the devil on this; my face was red, flaky and blotchy on day six. I have done this peel twice now; I have fair skin and my complexion looks so smooth and clear. I didn’t have much trouble before; I’m 41 and trying to keep a youthful appearance; wanted to slough off the dull looking skin. I think everyone should at least try it. I’m so happy that I did. Just make sure you don’t have anything important going on towards day six and seven after doing this peel.
It was as promised. I just didn;t realize I needed stronger solution
I like it.. I was fearful since my skin tone is medium to olive that I was getting too strong, but better to start weak and move up than to cause myself problems… The stronger solution worked much better.
Great for sun damage!
Have bought before and loved it, still do. Really makes me skin clear and soft, but warning, do not leave on too long, follow exact directions because can burn your skin ifnot used correctly.
I love this stuff
I do peels every month or every other month. Since it is only 15%, you’re not gonna look like a different person. It will help with minor discolorations, increases cell turnover and helps your moisturizers absorb better.
This stuff works great, highly recommend, it will burn like fire but stand in front of a fan and the burning is a little easier to take. You will not see any frosting as it says on the bottle so don’t wait for it, but you will peel within the week and you will be beet red afterwards, so get ready. splash some cold water on your face and cool down with a cold cloth and you will be good to go, put on some moisturizer afterwards and stay out of the sun.
Save your money.
Will never use ever again. Burned my skin something fierce and left scarring. Brought back acne and did not work. Waste of money. Try the Beta peel instead which includes salicylic acid with it as well as the glycolic acid peel. Very effective when used together.
Your Skin Will Peel
I have had oily skin since around 10 years of age and therefore went through years of acne as well which later developed into large pores and some acne scarring. I wanted something to smooth things out. Well, I’ve read a TCA peel is stronger than the salicylic or glycolic acid peels I was using. It is considered more a medium depth type peel. So YES(!), you DO have to use caution or you can end up with some nasty burns and/or scabbing, You might want to stay at home the first several days after the peel too because the peeling can get ugly looking and your skin is sensitive to sunlight as well. Follow the directions and DO NOT leave this peel on your face for longer than the recommended amount of time. Rinse, rinse, rinse with water too when the time for the peel is up. DO NOT rub your face with a washcloth while rinsing and DO NOT pick at dry skin while your face is in the peeling process as it could cause scarring. Use a good oil-free moisturizer; plain aloe vera gel is good. It does help to fade scars out some, but you have to be patient as it may require more than one treatment. As for the pores; well, they do look temporarily reduced for several days after treatment but eventually look larger over time. Not sure if there really are home methods for permanently reducing the size of large, stretched out pores(?) SPACE treatments out too and DO NOT do more than once in about 12 to 14 days. ALWAYS wear sunscreen on your treated areas after that! Good Luck!
I love the skin obsession TCA 15% peel. This peel is great if you’re a beginner. I have been to spas and recieved chemical peels costing hundreds of dollars. This peel gives you the exact results, you will absolutely LOVE the results! Remember to follow instructions and this is a great start for new at home chemical skin peelers. I have purchased the TCA 30% because I would like a deeper peel. I will post results soon….
A strong peel
I have scars from Lupus. I’ve tried chemical peels through doctors and then decided to do it myself since I could spend a lot less and do the same procedure–dip cotton balls in solution, swab face, wait, and rinse. I like the strength of this solution, which does create a good peeling action without being too strong (I’ve had peels that created more scarring because they were too strong). I gave this product four stars because I find salicylic acid to be the best peel for my skin, but I am pleased with this solution. I have found that doing a series of peels over time greatly decreases the unevenness of my skin. Unlike glycolic acid, which makes me break out, this peel does the trick without making my skin blemish. If you’re looking for something that is strong without being too damaging, this peel may be a great fit.
