Issues with Ingredients
I am obsessed with having a clean face before bed and again in the morning before I apply fresh makeup so I am always happy to try new facial cleansers. I had never before heard of the Simple SkinCare line but dealing with the skin condition Rosacea for years it is imperative that I use products geared toward sensitive skin. This 5 oz bottle is the standard “upside down” storing squeeze bottle most facial cleansing manufacturers have adopted. The front of the bottle states there are 2 vitamins, 1 skin loving nutrient, and 0 perfumes or dyes. Reading the ingredient list, I am not sure which is which. Here are the ingredients in the order they are listed:Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Decyl Glucoside, Cocomidopropyl Betaine, PEG-55 Propylene Glycol Oleate, Propylene Glycol, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Bisabolol, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Oil, Glycol Distearate, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Polyquaternium-39, Laureth-10, Cocomide MEA, Sodium Chloride, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Disodium EDTA, Dipropylene Glycol, Methylparaben.Wow. So much for being “simple”. Sounds like an entire science lab is in this product. I had never heard of Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil so I looked it up. It is a common ingredient in “natural” products as it is derived from the Anthemis Nobilis flower (in the Chamomile family so take heed if you are allergic to Chamomile). The Pelargonium Graveolens Oil is what is used to make geranium oil and has a rose scent. That might be all nice and natural sounding but I can’t get past the second ingredient being Sodium Laureth Sulfate. This and its cousin Sodium Lauryl Sulfate are BAD for your skin. Over the past year I have stopped using any products that contain them. Please do a Google search for them and you will see what I am talking about. Now, stepping down from my soapbox I will simply tell you how the product worked. It is a pearly white color and has a nice smooth texture that comes out of the bottle easily. I applied it directly to my face with my hands as directed. It cleaned well (removing all traces of makeup) and had a nice pleasant subtle Rose scent. It rinsed off fairly easy but not as well as I would have liked. I noticed the next morning after washing my face again with Simple that my face was a bit itchy. I am not sure if there is something in the product’s many ingredients that I am allergic to or if the cleanser combined with my moisturizer was the problem. So, I am going to experiment again with only putting my moisturizer on one side of my face after cleansing.I guess if you are not concerned about ingredients like SLES (Sodium Laureth) and SLS (Sodium Lauryl) then it is a product worth trying. I won’t recommend it however unless they reformulate and remove the Sodium Laureth Sulfate.EDIT 12/24/11: I tested the cleanser regarding the itching issue and it seems that there is something in it that is not combining well with the ingredients in my moisturizer (Olay brand). I haven’t encountered that problem with other facial cleansers and my moisturizer.
Simple, soft, and it works
Some reviewers question the list of ingredients, but most facial washes have a long list of unpronounceable ingredients. Just because they sound weird, doesn’t make them bad. So unless you’re a chemist or a dermatologist, don’t assume that it’s bad.At least one reviewer gave the product bad marks because you can’t put it around your eyes. Lots of facial soaps/cremes make similar warnings. That doesn’t make this a lousy product. It’s not called, “Eye cleaner” or “Eye moisturizer.” It’s for the face. While the eyes are part of the face, it’s a special part that is super sensitive, which is why there are special products just for that.Overall, this product is quite good and delicate. Is it the best thing ever? No, but I’m happy with it and probably most people would be too.
Unsuitable for eyes??
This is a standard facial wash with a nice rich lather and mild, pleasant scent. Here are the directions: “Wet face with warm water. Squeeze a small amount into hands and work into a lather. Massage gently in a circular motion onto wet skin. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Avoid delicate eye area.”Wait, what was that? “Avoid delicate eye area”? Isn’t this a product for sensitive skin? If you can’t use it in the eye area, it isn’t as mild as they’re leading us to think. And while it’s touted as “moisturizing,” my skin feels drier than usual.Maybe they just didn’t do the extensive testing that would be needed to assure government regulators that it was sufficiently mild, but my “eyes” are a big part of my “face,” and I’m not going to buy a separate eye cleanser for everyday use. I’d say they have a ways to go to live up to the marketing promises.
I Quite Like This Stuff!
I have to face it: the older I get, the more sensitive my skin becomes. Old tried and true products suddenly make my face red and itchy and dry out my skin, and others are giving me break outs (which I do NOT need at my age). I have been looking for several years for a facial cleanser to leave my skin soft and smooth, not irritated and inflamed. I have tried many, many different products, but to no avail. So when SIMPLE KIND TO SKIN MOISTURIZING FACIAL WASH became available, I figured I had nothing to lose, and I gave it a try.And I am so glad that I did. SIMPLE KIND TO SKIN MOISTURIZING FACIAL WASH leaves my face thoroughly clean, well hydrated, silky smooth, and delightfully soft to the touch. It is not red, irritated, inflamed, bumpy, dry or itchy. My skin feels good, and it looks great! Even my husband commented that I had a healthy glow! Woo Hoo!I know that not all skin products are for all skin types, so KIND TO SKIN MOISTURIZING FACIAL WASH might not work for you. But it sure did the trick for me. If you are experiencing any of the issues that I was, then give KIND TO SKIN MOISTURIZING FACIAL WASH a try. You might be pleasantly surprised.
While I didn’t toally dislike this facial wash, I wasn’t overly enthused about it either. It is a typical, basic face cleanser. Creamy, lathers well and rinses well. It has a very light scent. I have to be picky with what I use on my face as my skin doesn’t like alot of products, but this one caused no irritations. As for the “moisturizing” claim, I don’t feel that this product was moisturizing at all. During the winter I get dry spots/patches on my face. After using this cleanser for several weeks, I saw no difference in those dry areas. The cleanser did not add any moisturization. Honestly though, that is ok because I use a moisturizer anyway and I do not rely on a cleanser to add moisture, BUT if it claims to do something, you should see at least some sort of proof of those claims. I do use other cleansers particularly in the winter which do better at keeping my skin moisturized and minimizing the dry spots and redness.I didn’t notice any other spectacular or amazing effects.. no glowing skin, no diminished wrinkles or anything else. No decrease in the seasonal redness or dry patches. Again, I wasn’t expecting those things either, but just pointing out the fact that this is your regular everyday cleanser, with no added benefits.I wouldn’t necessarily advise against buying this cleanser, but I also would not specifically recommend it. It is ok for the price, but there are others in the price range for sensitive skin which have better results.
Like it a lot so far
I have combination skin…parts are very dry and flaky, other parts are oily. Using this face wash seems to even my skin out. My dry areas are definitely not as dry anymore, and I’m not noticing the flaking that I’ve had in the past. My skin feels smooth and moisturized. I really appreciated that I only needed a tiny bit of this to make a good lather (hopefully it will last for awhile), and I also liked the fresh scent.
Want to say I love it
This product smells so very nice and your skin will feel so refreshed, clean, and silky smooth. It is foamy and light-fluffy wonderful! I want to use it all over my body :-)I want to say I love this product like so many of the other reviewers, but…It contains sodium laureth sulfate 🙁 The problem with SLS is that during the processing of the chemical there are toxic impurities present, specifically dioxane, which is a know carcinogen and nervous system toxin. It also includes methyparaben which is a preservative. The problem with parabens is they mimic estrogen and act as a potential endocrine /hormone disruptor. As a breast cancer survivor I have concerns about using any products with parabens as a potential contributor of “estrogen-positive” cancers. If you use this product, I would recommend only using for very occasional cleaning and rinse very thoroughly.
not my favorite
I didn’t find this particularly moisturizing nor pleasant to use. It was a fairly generic, creamy white cleanser. I prefer something with a little more scrubbing power that leaves my skin feeling tingly. Not sure I would try this again.
SIMPLE Exfoliates the Skin at Half the Price of Olay
I am a forty-eight-year-old man who was born with raunchy skin. My complexion is best described as oily, especially my forehead. Keeping my face free of acne was a daily struggle until I received the Olay Professional Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System (Olay Professional Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System) which taught me the importance of exfoliation. The rotating brush gently deep cleans my skin while removing dead cells as evidenced by the black grime found in its bristles; I’ve had to replace the brush since faithfully using it every day for the past year. I lather my face with the Olay Professional Pro-X Exfoliating Renewal Cleanser (Olay Professional Pro-X Exfoliating Renewal Cleanser, 6 Ounce) prior to using the cleanser’s rotating brush.I dare say that I experienced miraculous results using the Olay products. After a few months of continual usage, my skin became remarkably healthier and more manageable. There were fewer pimples, especially on my nose. (When I did get a pimple, it seemed to vanish sooner than normal.) My skin was smoother, more vibrant and more toned. My self-confidence and self-esteem increased as my acne problems decreased. Let’s face it, men also want healthier skin. Pimples hurt, physically, emotionally and financially; research has shown that if two applicants of equal qualification interview for the same job, the more attractive one will get it.With that said, I was hesitant about trying the Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash. I didn’t want to alter a cleansing regiment that had been proven successful. However, I believe that beauty products are like medicines. Sometimes our bodies become immune to them and they no longer work as effectively. It is good to try a new product. When I was bodybuilding, I had to change my weight lifting routines in order for my muscles to continue growing. Therefore, I decided to try the Simple Wash. If I experienced difficulties, I would gladly run back to the Olay products.I quit using my Neutrogena Transparent Facial Bar, Acne-Prone Skin Formula, (Neutrogena Transparent Facial Bars, Acne-Prone Skin Formula, 3.5 Ounce (Pack of 2)) and I continued using the Olay Cleansing System. However, I substituted the Simple Wash for the Olay Cleanser. Ounce per ounce, the Simple Wash is half the price of the Olay Cleanser. Therefore, it is definitely more economical. Also, the Simple Wash can be easily ordered through Amazon if not readily available in department stores. A product that is highly popular in England, the Simple Wash has just recently been introduced into the United States.I have posted some photographs of the Simple Wash on this web site. It arrived in a five-ounce tube without a box or any paperwork. Instructions and all ingredients are printed on the back of the tube, which, for safety reasons, had a cap that was sealed with plastic. The ingredients are too many to list here; however, many of them are also used in the Olay Cleanser. This led me to believe that the Simple Wash also exfoliates the skin.I have faithfully used the Simple Wash for ONE MONTH. I normally use it to wash my face at least twice a day, in the morning while preparing to go to work and at night before retiring to bed. I also use it before attending a social event. I have not experienced any allergic reactions such as rashes, blisters, hives, etc. Basically, the Simple Wash is fragrance free. It does not have an overwhelming flowery fragrance that some people might find offensive. However, if I raise a small dab of it to my right nostril, I do smell a slight odor. My Olay Cleanser smells similar and it is also advertised as fragrance free.A little does go a long way. I only use a small pearl-drop of the Simple Wash on my hands before rubbing it on my face. The amount of lather produced will depend upon the amount of Simple Wash used. (The five-ounce tube should last me at least two to three months.) For the first two weeks, my skin was slightly dry and taut. I had to rub into my face a small amount of Suave Body Lotion, Vitamin E, (Suave Body Lotion, Vitamin E, 32-Ounce (Pack of 2)) in order to give it some moisture. However, eventually my skin must have grown accustomed to the Simple Wash and became noticeably smoother, softer and refreshed. Despite this winter’s strange up-and-down temperatures in Chesapeake, VA, my complexion, thanks to the Simple Wash, is looking quite good. I don’t have any red, dry patches around the corners of my nose or mouth. If you are a man or woman who is searching for an economical facial cleanser that performs well at exfoliating skin, then I highly recommend you try the Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash. It is less than half the price of the Olay Professional Pro-X Exfoliating Renewal Cleanser and works just as well, if not better. I am not criticizing Olay products in any way. I’ve used the Olay Body Moisturizing Bath Soap (Olay body moisturizing bar soap for sensitive and hypo allergenic skin – 4.25 oz, 6 ea) nearly all of my life and will continue to do so. However, as I wrote earlier, it is sometimes good to vary one’s beauty regiment because, like a workout regiment, it can grow stale. Your skin, muscles, etc., will not respond as well with the same daily routine used year after year.Joseph B. Hoyos
Nice but I’m allergic to it
I liked this wash. It lathers nice and smells good. It has a good feel when I used it to wash my face. However, I soon noticed that my face itched. It was splotchy, red and itchy all day. As I write this review, I looked up the ingredients. It turns out Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil is CHAMOMILE FLOWER, OIL according to the FDA website. I know I’m allergic to chamomile, so despite liking the Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash, it won’t work for me.
This is my new favorite face wash!
I tried this out for the first time earlier this year. I have dry, sensitive skin that only occasionally breaks out. It is hard for me to find something that doesn’t have acne treatment (DRIES my skin out), mini scrubbies in it (too HARSH for my skin) and isn’t expensive. I picked this up, since it was labeled MOISURIZING and it only contains "skin loving ingredients." I LOVE this facial wash. It doesn’t dry out my skin and my face feels clean after using it. Amazon sends out a pack of 2 and is cheaper than my local stores.
The issue I have most time with facial cleansers is the smell. This face wash scent was very light and pleasant. I leanred the hard way that a little…goes a long way so i wound up with a LOT of suds. It then became apparent it was a little hard to wash off completely. My face felt very clean…not lotiony like some other cleansers BUT i sit here now…with my skin feeling very tight…like i washed with regular soap. I’m not sure if it removes make up completely but that is my next test.
The Second Ingredient Says It All
I guess it’s probably the result of my gene pool but I’m cursed with frustratingly sensitive, reactive skin. Even the one cleanser I’ve found that is alright for my skin isn’t great. I recently decided to start looking for a better alternative in hopes of finally having happy skin. Simple’s claims sounded good so I thought I’d give it a try.The first two days that I used it my skin was so painfully parched and flaky I almost gave up. But I figured since it was new to my skin I would give it a month before I tossed it. Maybe I just needed to get used to it. I spent the next three weeks suffering from the worst acne breakout I have had in months! Break-through breakouts are not uncommon when switching cleansers but it just got worse and worse. To make it more awful my skin was so flaky and dried out. But since my husband was also using it and had initially said he liked it I left it for him to keep using. A week later he was having the same miserable breakout symptoms I had been having.Needless to say we’ve gone back to our old product and will not be using Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash. I believe that one of the main reasons we both had this much trouble is that the second ingredient is Sodium Laureth Sulfate. Having recently read an article about this chemical–and industrial degreaser used in many soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, laundry detergent, and other products for cleaning because it’s cheap–I think it’s probably part of the problem. I think it might be time to remove it completely from our home but first of all not using it on our sensitive skin! While I hated this product, I did also trySimple Cleansing Facial Wipes, 25 Count (Pack of 2)which I have had no adverse reaction to. They’re soft, big enough for the whole face and neck, and nice for those times you need to clean up in a hurry. I definitely liked them better than the face wash.
I broke out with a slight rash after using this Facial Wash.
I tried this product and it seemed ok but not great. Then I started getting a slight rash on my face so I stopped using it and the rash went away after a few days. I tried the product again and the rash reappeared. I have sensitive skin and obviously there is something in this product that I am allergic to.Use this product at your own risk. I’ve read most of the reviews and seems to be a hit or miss situation regarding whether this product will have a good or bad effect on your skin. For me it had a bad effect and I threw the remaining product away.
There are only a few things I’m brand loyal to. I only use dove soap and I’ve been using Clinique facial products for as long as I can remember. Nonetheless, I decided to give Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash a try. Why not!? The product worked OK. Nice texture and all but at the end of the day…I still prefer my Clinique.
Didn’t Hurt My Skin, Didn’t Help Either
I have sensitive skin so when I’m offered a product from Amazon Vine to try on my skin, I do not say “yes” unless I’m fairly certain it will not cause problems. This didn’t cause any redness or break outs or irritation at all. The scent was very light so it was not annoying. The bottle was very easy to use and the gel came out easily after the first use.You do need to follow the directions and wet your face first or the gel does not work very well on your face no matter how sudsy you got it in your hands. Warmer to hot water worked best to both lather it up, work it onto the skin, and then rinse it off. However it never felt like it was easy to rinse off my skin and at a certain level of heat, I didn’t want to try any more. It wasn’t that it left behind an unpleasant residue but my pores also didn’t feel free and light as they would with just my regular cleanser. My skin also didn’t feel particularly moisturized either.Over all a very average ranking from me because while it didn’t hurt my skin, it also didn’t live up to the promises on the bottle itself.
This product worked just as good, but not better than other products I tried. I certainly would be willing to use it again. The biggest decision maker to me would be the cost of this versus something else as I didn’t feel that there was any advantages or disadvantages to using this product. It did moisturize without feeling greasy. It felt light and smooth.
Gentler than Regular Soap
I got this because I have psoriasis (dry skin condition)and the skin around my eyebrows tends to get dry. I figured that a gentler soap would help from my skin getting dry. This soap seems to work well. It doesn’t give quite as much moisturizing effect as I’d hoped, but everyone’s skin is different. It is, however, a step above washing your face with a bar such as Dove or Irish Spring.
Nice Foam – leaves skin a little tight
A little seems to go a long way — this foams up very nicely. I used a facial brush (actually a baby hairbrush with very soft bristles) to wash one side of my face and used my hand to wash the other side of my face and actually see no difference. Altough it leaves my skin feeling a LITTLE tight — I see no signs of dryness and I would bet this facial wash would be GREAT to use in a humid climate – like the summers are over here — to remove sweat, oil, and pulluted air detritus that sticks to one’s face in the summer months.update: OK — we have had temps in the 60’s and 70’s here – in February no less — an so, yes I am right — “Simple Maintenance” works REALLy well to clean sweaty dirty faces (think “rush hour”, in traffic, on the bus for 30 minutes).I am using this religiously every evening after I get home from my commute thru the evening’s pollution. Still does a great job of cleaning that gunk out of my pores.Excellente!!UPDATE March 29 – this makes for an EXCELLENT body wash — my itchy skin itcheth no more. I also sweat alot and this Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash does a great job of getting those sweaty pores nice and clean and COOL, whether I use a bath brush or a wash cloth.UPDATE July 2012- Oh heat and humidity — 105 degree days. Bus exhaust, clinging to everyone…. Horrible….I feel like a walking sauna — so when I come home I wash my face with this WONDERFUL product and I am HUMAN once again.
Good, but nothing unique
I have combination skin – dry with oily T-zone – so I thought this might be a good facial cleanser for me. It’s fine, but it’s no better than anything else on the market. When I’m rinsing it off, it feels like it’s leaving a film on my face, although after I dry off, my skin feels dry (as in normal). It does clean well, but it’s no better than the glycerin soap I have been using for many years. The nice thing about it from my perspective is that it will be easier and less messy to travel with than bar soap. I’ll probably use it when I travel, but I’ll be using my same old soap at home. (By the way, I was supposed to get two of these in the package but only got one. Hmmm…)
Nice and Smooth Skin!
I have very dry and sensitive skin so I have to be really careful on what products I use on my face, but the Simple Kind to Skin Moisturizing face wash does wonders for my face. My face felt clean and my skin wasn’t dried out every time I used it. My skin looks and feels healthy and it didn’t irritate my already sensitive skin and it didn’t cause any breakouts. No harmful dyes or chemicals that irritate your skin also no unnecessary perfumes, and this allows your skin to breathe. Simple Face Wash has added Pro-Vitamin B5 that will help restore you skin and give it a natural glow.I love the way this makes my skin feel but it didn’t give me that much moisturizer and I had to still apply my moisturizer, but other then that small issue I love this face wash.
Hard to believe but this actually is what it says it is.
This product is impressive. Silky smooth, very, very, light pleasant fragrance (almost undetectable), not oily or greasy, not drying. Left my skin feeling clean, moist, and refreshed. I have a difficult time finding products that do not irritate my skin. This did not cause any irritation, itching, burning, redness… nothing. Just clean. I will most definitely be looking for this product on the market.
I like Simple Kind To Skin Moisturizing Facial Wash. I use it after using an apricot scrub. For the scrub I use Walmart or Target versions which are similar to St. Ives apricot scrub, but, I think, more aggrerssive. I then use Simple kind Facial Wash and it soothes my face and makes my skin feel soft.
simple kind to skin
Nice gel that turns into a creamy lather with a refreshing “scent” of just pure clean. Felt great on my skin, and didn’t dry it out like some other products would. The tube stays closed very well, even in a gym bag or suitcase. The only thing I don’t like is the list of chemicals in this “natural” product.
I have oily skin that’s sensitive and is easily irritated. I use several layers of makeup daily and I love that Simple Kind washes it all clean without drying my skin. It’s well balanced, not too greasy or too harsh. It feels light without any heavy fragrance. My skin feels naturally clean after washing with it. I’ve never seen this brand in stores before but would definitely keep an eye out for it. It definitely works for me.
Smells like lemon furniture polish
I purchased a tube of this face wash on closeout at my local store. It’s just as well the store won’t be carrying it any longer because I don’t think I would purchase it again. The cleanser is a thick, creamy gel that is hard to squeeze out of the tube. It only lathers a little, so it’s easy to rinse off. This face wash doesn’t irritate my acne-prone skin and leaves it squeaky clean. I don’t wear make-up, so I don’t know if this wash can clean off cosmetics. I would prefer a bit more moisturizing in my face wash, though. I just can’t get over the strange smell – it reminds me of lemon furniture polish. I don’t see lemon listed anywhere on the ingredients list, but lemon seems too harsh on the skin, even if it’s only something else that smells like lemon.
An almost immediate improvement!
This `simple’ solution to dry skin works pretty well. Despite the weather here (good god it’s cold), I noticed an almost immediate feeling of clean smoothness that lasted most of the day. That was day one, and it hasn’t let me down since. I liked the fact that this product is pretty clean as well, lacking a lot of chemicals that most moisturizers and facial cleansers can contain. It feels nice going on and does what it sets out to do. I also noticed that over the past few weeks, but skin has maintained a soft feel and presence; it looks nicer. Not that it clears up any unwanted acne, but it gives your skin a smooth appearance, which makes you look and feel younger. I’d certainly recommend this! As I’m getting older, I’ve become more conscious of the way my skin feels and this is one of the best products I’ve found to give me the desired feeling of soft, young, fresh skin.
Good for the price
It cleanses the skin, but it strips the skin a little too much and leaves the skin a bit tight. Not very moisturizing but cleanses well.It is necessary u follow up with a moisturizer. All in all its a great balance between clean and not overly dry and tight
Good face wash
I got a couple bottles of this from a Walmart order I did a couple months back and the wife liked it so we got some more. I used this for a while and it wasn’t too bad. I’ll be buying this again as it seems to clean well and not be very harsh on your skin.
Meh – nothing special
I was excited to try this facial wash, but was somewhat disappointed. Honestly, the biggest turn-off for me surprisingly was the smell. It doesn’t have a strong smell (no artificial perfumes), and I guess I expected it to not have much of a smell. The mild smell it does have was not pleasant to me. This is a white, creamy cleanser that seems to do the job alright. However, I’d prefer something with a little more grit to it to help exfoliate my skin.
