Undecided About This Product
I have used the Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Hold and Shine Spray several times, and in several ways. I used it after using the Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Shampoo and Conditioner, followed by the Coconut and Hibiscus Curl and Style Milk. My hair looked and felt nice and soft initially, but became progressively crispy as the day wore on. I then used the Hold and Shine Spray on Dry hair. I experienced crispness. I then used it after spraying my hair with water to loosen the curl and to add some moisture. I still experienced crispness.I was told by a hair care professional that products with a holding aspect contain alcohol. I can’t seem to find evidence of alcohol in this product, unless I am over-looking something. I simply think that it is the coconut that isn’t agreeing with my hair. This is a nice product at a good price. It just may not be what my hair needs.
Nice and Light, but not a lasting sheen
This is one of the few shine mist that doesn’t have dimethicone. This product absorbs into the hair and leaves a light oil sheen, without the greasy buildup, but the sheen doesn’t last long on my naturally curly hair. I purchased to add sheen to my hair. I use it as a finishing spray, after my hair has dried. I need to spritz every few hours, if I want a sustained sheen, and my hair isn’t all that dry.The scent is pleasant, soft, and sweet smelling(contains Japanese Honeysuckle). My hair is naturally curly, so I don’t need the hold, but this isn’t a typical water based hair spray. It doesn’t contain alcohol. Some reviewers who relax their hair, like this product. Just know, the first ingredient is water, but I don’t think it will revert the hair. It sprays out of the bottle in a “fine” mist. Immediately after spritzing, it leaves a moisturizing feel, but the hair doesn’t get “wet”. It seems as if it would be a good product for flat ironing and blow drying, too. This is lite. It won’t take body away from relaxed har. This is not a good product for me, because those aren’t my hair’s needs right now.If available, this product is best purchased locally. I paid 9 bucks for mine at Walgreens. This seller has built in delivery cost to their asking price.I find, Sta Sof Fro comb out spray is still the best on the market for lasting shine, lasting softness, and lasting moisture in natural hair. I would recommend that over this product in a heartbeat. Sta Sof Fro is good for afros and curly styles alike. It also detangles curly and “kinky appearing” curly hair with—-ease. For curly styles, it’s best used after shampooing/conditioning, before applying custards, gel, puddings or cremes. Afro wearers can use daily. If picked out while still wet, the hair will dry stretched. I wouldn’t recommend for relaxed hair.
shine without greasy hair
I’m Asian with thick wavy hair, which I unfortunately damaged by bleaching it. My hair was fried, dry, and brittle. The ends would just break off by the inch. I decided to stop bleaching my hair and I stopped using heat tools on it too. I dyed it black so it could grow out without having that ugly dark roots/bleach hair look. I trimmed 3/4 inches off of damaged hair, but my hair was so bad from the bleach that it didn’t really matter. I just didn’t want to have a pixie cut so I worked with what I had left which was just a little below my chin. I started using this product and doing more protective hairstyles like buns or just making sure the ends of my hair was tucked away since they were still so damaged/dry. I noticed this product really helps moisturize my ends to keep it shiny and healthy looking. I also noticed that I don’t have any split ends since using this because it seals the cuticles with the healthy oils. What I really like about this product is that you can spray a lot and your hair will never get greasy like how other “shine” sprays do. Your hair stays moisturized and shiny, never greasy or heavy feeling. It’s light weight and leaves my hair bouncy. I definitely recommend this product for damaged/dry/brittle hair to actually treat hair, instead of coating it with silicone and alcohols that only dry out hair more. My hair is now right above my breast. It took me 6 months of no bleach, minimal heat styling, and good hair products with natural ingredients, like this one, to grow and maintain my hair length.
Lovely product, lovely smell
This product is an unexpected keeper. I was looking for Kinky Kurly’s Knot Today at the store, and found this product instead. It’s a small bottle, and when you spray it on — it’s like a light oil (with silk proteins and shea butter mixed inside). And it smells sooooo good — almost like a citrus candy. And the best thing was the product’s scent didn’t cause me to have a headache or an allergic reaction by day’s end. (This is rare, since I’m highly allergic to scents/smells).I used the spray on my first day twist out, and it gave it a slight shine. But, it’s more helpful with cutting down the frizz. Second day twist out — I didn’t retwist it at night, and slept with a satin cap on. By the time I woke up– the style was gone. I used a little water (for me, it always revives my 4a curlies). I also used a little shea moisture coconut hibiscus hold and shine moisture spray — this time, curls with no frizz! It was wonderful. Someone even asked if I was using a “curl” definer that day.Note: I don’t think that the shea moisture is a “curl definer” but it does help with frizz, and smells really nice. I will be buying this product again in the future.INGREDIENTS: Deionized Water, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut Oil)”, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)* , Silk Protein, Essential Oil Blend, Melia Azadirachta (Neem) Seed Oil, Algae Extract, Hyssopus Officinalis Extract, Salvia Officinalius (Sage) Leaf and Equistem Arvense Extract, Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower and Lonicera Japonica (Japanese Honeysuckle) Flower Extract , Tocopheral Vitamin E*Certified Organic
Good but not perfect
This product was okay for me. I use it to keep my hair from getting dry when I wear it curly from a roller set or straw set, but it the oils in it tend to build up if you use it every day. I use it in conjunction with the Shea Moisture Smoothie, which leaves my hair very moisturized so I’m probably just overdoing it. On the plus side, it has a decent amount of hold (less than I would expect from a hairspray, but it keeps my style intact for the day) and it is moisturizing.
I’ve written a review for the restorative masque and the conditioning milk, so if I repeat some of my praise so be it. I have relaxed colored hair and it definitely did a great job helping my hair stay moisturized and holding my “curls.” I’ve used the product on wet and dry hair. I think it works best when my hair is wet, on dry hair it has a tendency to have my hair feel like heavy product instead of the lightness I feel when I apply it wet and then blow dry. I’ve also used a little bit of it with the restorative conditioning milk on dry hair. Basically, I sprayed it into my hands applied a small coin size amount of the conditioning milk, put on hair, and then flat ironed. This is the next best way to use the product, and the best way on dry hair. So uses,1) on wet hair, after I wash/condition my hair I sprayed it, blow dry, flat ironed & style– wonderful results, lastedfor days2) on dry hair, after I blow-dried my hair, light spray and style (could use with restorative conditioning milk)– leasteffective for me3) on dry hair, spray hands, apply coin size of leave-in conditioner, rub mixture into hair by sections, blow dry, flatiron & style– next best results4) on dry hair, style and light stray mist– felt a little heavy but effectiveThis stuff has helped my hair bounce back from rough days (heavy work out, sweating outside, etc). My hair feels soft and wonderful and my hairstylist is giving me made compliments about my hair.
Good as a flat-iron spray
I actually like this product better as a flat-iron spray than as a curl enhancer. It has a nice smell and works really well as a heat-protectant mist because of the protein. Once I have used all of this product up, however, I will not be re-buying it because I have a found another flat iron product that works better and is cheaper.
I love Shea moisture and I use this spray after every wash, before and after I style my hair every day. It smells amazing and works great!
I really love this product. It makes my hair very soft and manageable. I did not have any residue. Also, I saw it at Target for a much cheaper price. So I will be buying it there. It is way too expensive here.
Smells great, does add moisture and shine. As for hold, not really. But I like that it is an all natural product. I will definitely buy from this company again, I love their baby products and body lotion. I will probably buy this spray again but look elsewhere for a natural hairspray.
Love this for my natural hair
I just received this product and I love the moisture and soft texture this adds to my natural hair. Will use daily
