Cleans cloudy dishes…and your dishwasher, too!

This gets glass dishes clean and crystal-clear! It doesn’t leave white residue.About a year ago some new law passed that required most dishwasher soap companies to change their formulas. In our home we use a lot of glass (because we don’t like having our food come into contact with plastics), so all of our dishes started getting cloudy. I tried to hand-wash them, but it was pretty hard to remove the residue. They didn’t look very clean. The problem kept getting worse until we switched to Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwasher pacs. Seriously, the first time I used one of these, all of our plates and bowls and glasses came out clear again! It was amazing. Half of our plates (the ones in the cupboard) were dull and cloudy from the Cascade automatic dishwasher packs, and the other half were beautiful and clear from these Seventh Generation automatic dishwasher pacs. It was such an incredible contrast that we will definitely never go back to the other brand.Shortly after we started using Seventh Generation soap, I heard about the change in dishwasher soap ingredients, and I heard that the solution is to add “citric acid” to each load of dishes. It gets rid of the problem with cloudy dishes. The same film that makes dishes cloudy also creates a residue on dishwasher parts and can cause dishwashers to need repair…but citric acid also removes the buildup on the dishwasher parts. I looked at the list of ingredients on this Seventh Generation soap and the first ingredient is citric acid. No wonder it works so well!I highly recommend this automatic dishwasher soap. If you’re having problems with your dishes coming out cloudy, this will solve the problem because it contains citric acid–so it will also help maintain your actual dishwasher.

Cleans the dishes “greenly”

In my effort to become obnoxiously green, I have switched over to safer, more environmentally friendly cleaning products. How can you be all holier-than-thou if you’re poisoning the earth? So after a little research, I bought 7th Generation Auto Dish Pacs. I do like them a lot, though they usually don’t fit in the little dish soap dispenser in the dishwasher door. Because the packs are all slightly different shaped, some of them are too thick to close the dispenser door and I have to just toss the pack into the bottom of the dishwasher.I haven’t had any problems with the dishes not coming out clean. I do rinse off my dishes before putting them in the washer (none of this dried on stuck on stuff for me no matter what the advertisers say) so I can’t guarantee how well this works for the nasty stuff, but my dishes come out clean, and my glasses come out clear and not hazy. These are a little expensive per load, but if you want to be obnoxious, sometimes you have to pay for the right. 🙂

As pod as other dish washing detergent and environmentally friendly

I was using Cascade before trying this detergent. In the past the natural detergents I tried didn’t work well and I had to hand was dishes after they went through the dishwasher, I waste of water and energy. I always went back to Cascade powder. I tried these packets and they work better than Cascade!!! Hurray! Better for the environment and a good clean.I don’t pre-wash dishes or remove anything other than the big chunks, and this detergent does a great job of cleaning. If I have a particularly dirty load of dishes, I adjust the setings on my washer for high temperature or heavy, etc. I also turn off heat dry to save energy and I really don’t have problems with water spots.

Cleans well but doesn’t always rinse well

These get my icky pans and dishes just as clean as other pacs that aren’t as eco friendly. But they don’t always rinse clean. Since this mostly plagues my bottle pieces and Tupperware I don’t fret overmuch and I stick some vinegar in the jet dry hole and that tends to sort it out. If it’s really bad I run a rinse cycle again. I like that they have a good rating as far as the ingredients used are concerned. And Subscribe and Save keeps the price low and reasonable.

SEVENTH GENERATION AUTO DISH PACS

I DON’T LIKE THESE – DISHES ARE LEFT WITH RESIDUE ON THEMAND HARD TO GET THE RESIDUE OFF. WILL NOT BUY AGAIN.

A+ for grease. C – for everything else.

They are best for big loads of greasy pots and oily dishes and silverware, for which there is enough fat present to consume the dish pack chemicals. For non-oily, small loads I need a replacement because this leaves a residue. Cleaned glassware upon filling with water will foam, even with vinegar rinse. I appreciate suggestions fellow Amazoners (-:

Disappointing

I wanted to like these but against Ecover and Method tabs, Seventh Generation didn’t clean as well in our experience. I also didn’t like the smell Free and Clear left in my Bosch after my dishes were done. It wasn’t chemical, it was kind of earthy and moldy. We did about 6 loads using these tabs before we returned to our regular product.

Support Seventh Generation!

This is a great product from a GREAT company! According to Consumer Reports, these dish pacs were in the TOP 10 for cleaning/cost (2013). Cascade ranked higher, but if you know anything about P&G you know that they are not the most ethical company. So, in my opinion, why not pay the same or even less (with subscribe & save) and support Seventh Generation by purchasing their dish pacs instead of others? They work and they are great for safely cleaning baby items like bottles, passies, breastpump supplies without leaving a chemical residue that your child will eventually ingest.

Irritated by High-Maintenance Soap

I went straight to 7th Gen with my new dishwasher, a Maytag Jetclean Plus, so don’t have anything to compare this to. Would really like a green product to work, but don’t look forward to the headache of a drawn out search. The washer takes about two hours to run a full jet clean cycle, and although pots and pans come out immaculate, the glasses all have a nasty soap residue. I tried adding the ‘tough scrub’ setting, and when that didn’t work I added a ‘rinse only’ cycle as well. I will try adding the step of turning my water on hot before running the washer, and I will try adding vinegar before the rinse only cycle before making a verding. But seriously, isn’t this a little high maintenance for an appliance that is supposed to make my life easier? I do wonder if newer appliances are more efficient, use less water, and thus need less soap, hence the reason for the leftovers in our glasses. Maybe the customers who suggest we cut the packets open and pour half in at a time are on to something.

works, but not sure it’s worth it

spouse wants dishwasher detergent that has zero phosphorous. I would be ok with a small amount if it means we’re able to conserve water by not washing them twice – once in the sink for food particulates then again in the dishwasher for the ‘final’ cleaning with very hot water.I think it’s too expensive and increases the cost of our overall cleaning process (two detergents, two applications of clean water), but it does do the job.

It works:)

I was very apprehensive to buy this product after reading some of the reviews. We used liquid previously and it would always leave a residue on my glasses. We started using this and added white vinegar to the drying agent compartment and my dishes come out nice and clean:) BTW we have low end dish washer.

Nice to have a “green” dish washing product

I really care about using safe, green products, and these packets work as well as the name brand dish washers that pollute. VIVA!

These work well

If you are looking for a less toxic option for cleaning dishes, these are great. I have tried many other brands and this product rinses clean and doesn’t leave spot with my non toxic rinse agent.

Works fine, but doesn’t always fit dispenser

These things can be wonkily shaped, which means that sometimes the dispenser won’t close over them and you end up having to crush it just to get it to fit. Seems to work sufficiently though and I like going the harsh chemical free route.

Not bad…

Not exactly squeaky clean with our GE Profile Dishwasher if we do not use a rinse agent or have a full load. That being said, they also do not have all those extra chemicals so it can be a trade off.

Surprisingly great!

We have an ancient, mid- nineties model space-saver dishwasher that cleans exactly nothing unless you use Finish tabs. I have tried powders and Cascade, rinse aids galore, but Finish is the only thing I found to work. Until now.A bag of these was on sale at a local big box store and I decided to take a chance. I use natural laundry soap, dish liquid, hand soap, you name it, but because the dishwasher is so persnickety I didn’t want to try. I’m so glad I did! These tabs clean every bit as well as Finish! We use Dr. Brown’s baby bottles for our son, and using the dishwasher saves us a lot of time with bottle washing. That is, if the detergent works. After using this my bottles and all other dishes were sparkling clean with no residue.Love these. I’m switching for sure! So glad to find a green alternative.

Wow – I won’t go back to Cascade

I cannot believe how clean my dishes get with these packs. Seriously, I did not expect much from this purchase but I was trying to be a little more earth friendly. These are outstanding and I can’t wait to finish up my Cascade and never go back.

Works beautifully in my 1998 Maytag

Works well, leaving no residue. Cleans dishes with little or no pre-rinsing, even when run on the shortest “delicate” cycle in my circa-1998 Maytag dishwasher. No scent in the air.Caveats: I have normal water, and I don’t tend to leave thick coatings of dried on goop on my plate (say, old chili), and I fill the pre-wash compartment of the dishwasher (with an eco-friendly dish gel). Just as with any detergent, I’m sure poorly placed dishes, cooked-on dirt, hard water, etc would make for less satisfactory results. There’s also the big pluses that warrant the premium pricing: no lingering chemical scent in the air after use, and you’re not flushing phosphates down the drain. That means no VOCs in the air to damage your lungs (my kitchen positively reeks after using Cascade Complete), and much fewer chemicals down the drain to harm your local watershed. It works well, smells good, is made of natural ingredients, with recycled/recyclable packaging, and is produced by an ethical company. Highly recommended.

Work well

These work really well. The packets are pretty round, so sometimes they’re hard to close in the soap compartment, but it’s not a very big issue.

Clean and Green

I have been a user of Seventh Generation products for over a year. In the case of this company, they actually do produce products which have a smaller impact on the environment. The dishwasher cleaning product, for example, is manufactured without phosphorous. This is important. Our wastewater eventually find its way into our streams, lakes, reservoirs, and eventually back into our drinking water. Phosphorous promotes algae growth which degrades water quality. Recently, Westchester County, NY, where I live, has enacted laws to phase out the use of phosphorous containing lawn fertilizer. Seventh Generation has taken the phosphorous out of dish cleaner in this new product. This will improve our water quality.I saved a load of dishes in anticipation of the arrival of the Seventh Generation dish cleaner. It comes in conveniently premeasured packets. I just plopped a packet into the dishwasher and washed normally. The results were excellent. I have hard water which has dissolved minerals, but there were no residues on my glasses. Everything was clean. This dish cleaner comes in plain and lemon. I have tried both now. They both work equally well. Clearly, Seventh Generation has produced a functional and environmental sound product.

A Great Product You Can Feel Good About Using…I’m Hooked

I’ve been using Seventh Generation Dish Pacs for about a week now. I do one load of dishes a day….ocassionally 2. In the week that I’ve been using this product I’ve seen a drastic reduction in mineral deposit residue left in my dishwasher. I have hard water so had been running vinegar and baking soda through a washing cycle every few weeks. I don’t think I’ll need to do that as often now..if at all. Time will tell. Dishes are coming out just as clean and sparkling as they have been with my previous brand which was Cascade Complete. Here’s something else I feel good about. On the back of the package it says:If every household in the U.S. replaced one pouch of 20 concentrated packs containing petroleum based ingredients with our plant based product, we could save 9,700 barrels of oil. That’s enough to heat and cool 560 U.S. home for a year. This product serves me just as well, if not better, than the leading petroleum based product. I feel good about that.
