FINALLY a budget-friendly lipstick with a high-end payoff!
If you’re like me you’ve been bombarded with print and television ads of actress Emma Stone (Crazy Stupid Love) repping Revlon’s newest product, the Colorburst Lip Butters. Released in 20 different colors with dessert-inspired names, the lip butters were presented as being ultra-hydrating and luscious as well as long-lasting. And, honestly, what girl wouldn’t want to look like Emma Stone?I picked up four of these on sale at my local CVS for around $5 each with coupon and promotions. Fig Jam was the darkest lip butter I chose. The packaging for these lipsticks is a rectangular plastic quilted-pattern tube. The frosty color of the tube reflects the color of the product inside, which is nice and there is a clear plastic window at the very top of the tube so you can look inside and get an idea of what the color actually looks like (good move, Revlon).Fig Jam appears as a dark red-brown wine sort of a color. In the tube it appears pretty intimidating and not something someone with a pale complexion like myself would want to try. BUT! These are lip butters. They are meant to be a bit shearer and glossy, so thankfully, when applied, Fig Jam makes my lips look wine kissed. Very nice. One layer is quite sheer with a nice pop of color, but it can be built up with additional applications. Fig Jam is also the kind of color that leaves a pleasant color stain applied when it wears off (about three hours later).Revlon’s lip butters contain mago butter, Shea butter and jojoba oil, so they do live up to their claim of being ultra moisturizing. Considering this I was surprised by how pigmented they are as well. And, unlike many other department store cheap-o lip products, these lip butters don’t have an artificial fragrance or a rancid taste. They are comparable to higher end makeup brands.Right now these lip butters are getting a lot of hype so you’ll often find the displays raided at your local drug store. Keep checking! These are going to be a permanent part of Revlon’s product line!
Wow, these are less than $7???
I have a lot of lipstick, both high end and drugstore. I regularly use Estee Lauder, Smashbox, Buxom, and other brands. This is a real gem. I picked up Fig Jam on a whim and I was very impressed. The formula is very hydrating and the color is pigmented yet sheer. I love glosses and this looks like a mix of a gloss and lipstick without the stickiness of a lipgloss and the more dry feeling of a lipstick. I often feel compelled to cover my lipsticks with a gloss for shine but I don’t need to do that with this. Fig Jam is a gorgeous color too. It’s natural looking but darker than a nude on my NC30/medium skin.
Subtle in person, great on camera
I must admit, when I first tried this product I was disappointed. It barely showed up on my lips, and I thought it just wasn’t suited to my dark skin. A few minutes after, I started a Skype call and…WOW. I realized the pigments in the lip butter are subtle and not obvious in person, but on very noticeable on camera. This is perfect for me because I teleconference all day for work, and it’s nice to have some colour on my lips without using heavy lipstick. Now, let’s talk about the moisturizing effect: “lip butter” is an appropriate name for this product. It leaves my lips moist and buttery without the greasy or sticky effect of lip gloss. I love this colour, and I plan to buy a few other shades.I really wish I had bought this sooner. It’s great by itself, or paired with a little lip stain.
Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter ~ Fig Jam
I’m very pleased with this lip butter! I was a little hesitant to try this line because none of the colors looked like they’d be flattering against my skin – I’m a medium brown-skinned Black woman. Given the photo on Amazon, I thought that the Fig Jam would be a cocoa brown shade but it’s not. It applies as a very attractive brownish-red shade that works well with my complexion and is very subtle shade not garish.I’ve had allergic reactions to lip balms & lipsticks in the past but so far have had no problems with this lip butter – it goes on smoothly and lasts practically an entire day (even stayed put as I drank my coffee!) and given that Amazon’s price is much lower than I found at local drugstores, I’m going to purchase another tube or two to last through the winter.
I really like this lipstick. It goes on smooth and basically looks like lip gloss with a rich color. I just received it so I didn’t try it out to see how long it would last, but when I tried it on initially, I totally was impressed.
Love the texture and color of this stuff!
I’m usually a tube lip-gloss girl, but when my favorite Philosophy brand gloss was discontinued, I started hunting for replacements. While this won’t fulfill my moisturizing needs in the winter, I can see this being a good summer all-in-one. The smooth texture is appealing and easy to apply without a mirror. I’m an olive toned brunette and the sheer reddish-orange hue it leaves on my lips is dramatic enough to change my look, but doesn’t look overdone like some dark lipsticks.
Natural, sheer color
I’m not really sure on this, but I think this color would look good on anyone because it’s sheer it’s going to pick up some of your natural lip color and let it come through. Fig Jam looks very dark in the tube, but is not like red velvet which was a little too scary opaque for me and turned slightly pinkish. Fig Jam is possibly the prettiest color of the Revlon lip butters and is a very natural brownish red. When I first tried this, it really surprised me how different it looked on me compared to how it looks in the tube. I thought to myself that I finally found a color that I can wear anytime with or without makeup. It’s not garish or harsh at all and the color is buildable but not bright and not pink. I think women are staying away from this color because they think it is dark, but I highly recommend it. You can read more reviews at makeupalley’s website. It’s really hard for me to find a good color and product, but these are very high quality and have no bad taste or smell. I found these at Kroger on sale for five dollars each but you can find these at Walgreens on sale often, too. I encourage you guys to watch for those sales because you’re going to kick yourself if you pay full price and then find it on sale later. They’re always being restocked because they’re such a popular, hot item right now. I also have and love brown sugar which is a sparkly nude color and just found pink truffle which is a brown pink and can’t wait to try it.
Pleased with the taste and smell
The lipstick is pleasant to wear and seems to be moisturizing but I’m not real pleased that the color does not last very long
Currently, my favorite lipstick. Great colors, very emollient (it wears almost as comfortably as a lip balm), and very cheap. I have about a half dozen of these in various colors so I always have one on hand. Not quite as fabulous as Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatments, but 1/4 the price for 2x the product.
Surprised at How Good
I really liked this. I got it at a local drugstore for under $5.00. I’m afraid I don’t wear lipgloss because it’s normally messy/sticky – and it doesn’t last that long, but I liked the color and the price, so I got it.It stays on for FOREVER! I was so impressed! It is a neutral shade (sheer reddish/brown). For people like me of Irish/Italian descent, it’s a blessing because my skin tone seems a bit “conflicted.” LOL!! Sometimes I’m creamy – and sometimes, I’m just.. beige..:) So this lipstick works on either day. It’s a light, but very long lasting and pretty shade. A perfect neutral that just packs a bit more punch in that instead of pink undertones that show up in most nudes, this one has reddish undertones.Perfect lipstick.
MUCH more sheer on the lips than in the tube.
Fig Jam is a pretty figgy-brown color but is MUCH sheerer than it appears in the tube. When I wear it, I use a brownish lip pencil under it (all over the lip) to boost the color and the staying power. I really love the Revlon Lip Butters, but I prefer Red Velvet because it looks on the lips much like it looks in the tube. Still, Fig Jam is great when I want a more neutral lip color and especially when my eye makeup is done in shades of brown and tan.
This is my favorite color out if all the lip butters that I purchased. It has like a brownish purple color to it,and its obvious that you have something on your lips but its not over the top, this would so beautiful with lip liner. So if your like me and like some color on the lips but love natural or subtle looks, then this would be a good item to purchase!
Nice color, the Fig Jam, and nice saturation. But it was dry and dragged across my lips with discomfort and difficulty.
