Yellow Shea Butter, aka African Butter

I have really sensitive skin and one of the few products that hasn’t irritated it has been shea butter. However this shea butter is really different than products I’ve used before. I bought this because it stated that it was raw unrefined shea butter. But it is bright yellow! Raw, natural shea butter should be an off white color, naturally. Either this is African butter (also marketed as Yellow Shea Butter), which would mean that it is being marketed in a misleading way, or something has been added to the shea butter which would indicate that it isn’t 100% pure shea butter. It does not have the nutty smell that is characteristic of raw shea butter. It is also very tacky after applied, doesn’t melt in my hand easily, doesn’t absorb well and did I mention that everything it touches turns yellow? Including my skin, towels, bed sheets and anything else it comes into contact with. I’m a white girl with gold undertones and after I apply this I look like, well, a yellow girl. I tried applying a small amount and really working it into my skin thinking that maybe I was applying too much and that’s why it didn’t absorb and felt tacky. Regardless of how little or much I applied I had the same results, poor absorption and tackiness. To sum it all up, do your research before buying shea butter so you don’t make a mistake and get the wrong thing, like I did. Hope this helps.

Horrible product

It comes exactly as you see in the photo, but what you do not know from the photo is that this stuff REEKS of plastic/rubber. This stuff would be amazing if you were planning on dressing up as the Simpsons for Halloween because it will turn your skin the perfect shade of yellow. If you enjoy the smell of recycled tires, this is the product for you! PS You can’t return this product for “fear of contamination.” (This product was used solely for my wife who knows her beauty products)

Completely Obsessed

The product arrived from Halal Everyday very quickly. I ordered it on Tuesday and received it on Saturday. When ordering shea butter online the shipping will give you pause, because it costs so much. However, the shipping cost is well worth it. I mix the shea butter with coconut oil and jojoba oil, and heat it gently in the microwave or on the stove. Real shea butter is actually fairly hard, this softens it and gives it a soft creamy consistency.I have been using it on my skin for less than a month and I’ve noticed that my skin tone is evening out and it has a glow about it. My darkest stretch marks are almost gone. Shea butter is, in my opinion, superior to cocoa butter for stretch marks. Companies do not use it because it is a bit more expensive and I don’t think shea butter is industrially manufactured yet. The hard work is done by many women in Africa. I’ve also been using it on the balls of my feet, and I must say they are much softer as a result. I am happy I bought it and will(if I can afford to) continue to buy it for the rest of my life.

Shea Butter Heaven

I am very pleased with my order of shea butter. It was 3 lbs worth and less than I would have paid at whole foods for raw shea butter including the shipping. It is fresh and the seller made sure it fresh from a shipment he or she had just received. Very happy customer and will continue to order from them based on my first experience!!!!!

I am enjoying this product.

My shea butter arrived in a plastic bag that was knotted at the top. All the shea butter was MELTED! Thankfully it did not seep out of the bag. I had an oily mess on my hands–had to put it in the fridge to get it back to semi hard. While still soft, I poured it into a glass container, also a smaller plastic container, and a small glass yogurt jar. There is a lot! It got so messy that I ended up throwing the sack in the trash with quit a lot of butter in it. Soooo, I am not happy with the container it was shipped in. Also, the yellow color left as I squeezed it into other containers which was quite strange. I just hope that all the medicinal purposes of the butter is still there–I know the moisturizer is.I won’t buy from this seller in the summer again! That being said, I like the shea butter a lot. It does have a strange smell that I don’t know how to characterize, it is not musk or nutty smelling. It does kind of smell like some type of axle grease but not as strong and not as tart–if anyone knows what I mean. I don’t really like the smell–but thankfully it goes away once it is rubbed in and I am getting used to the initial odor. I have been using it as a night time moisturizer on my face and it is soooo great! I really am amazed. I don’t want to be without it.

Great quality.

This is very good quality shea butter. I used it through my last month of pregnancy (before just regular lotions) to avoid stretch marks, and it worked (or they say it’s genes and it doesn’t matter if ant lotions are used or not-but truly I think when skin stretches a moisturizers are must, I used them twice a day on my belly, back, breast etc).Application is a little bit annoying, because shea butter is quite hard and melts when temp is higher, but it keeps skin very well protected for a long time. I also use it on my newborn and it works better than Johnson baby lotion.

Nice Quality

The smell is quite bad though, but it is worth getting over for the benefits of the shea butter for your skin.

What a huge chunk of shea butter!

I bought this to make some whipped shea butter and could not believe how much product I was able to make with this! It filled 4 8oz jars and 20 4 oz jars. I still have approx 10 ozs of shea butter leftover. This stuff whips up beautifully. The only thing I didn’t like was the smell. It isn’t overpowering but it overpowered the essential oil even though I doubled and tripled the amount required. It isn’t an unpleasant smell, just not "luxurious". My research showed this is typical of shea butter so I don’t want to take away from the rating for the natural smell. It absorbs right into the skin and leaves a very soft, velvety feeling.
