maybe not necessary
I have been using proactiv for 10 years. Nowadays I use the cleanser twice a day and follow with the treatment from […](also contains benzoyl peroxide, like the proactiv lotion). My sister also uses proactiv, and we decided together that the toner really doesn’t make much of a difference. The cleanser works great, but I haven’t used the toner in years, and I can’t imagine that it really matters. So I agree with those who say you can use the system but eliminate the toner step. (I have been to salons that say that toners aren’t necessary at all, the one cosmetologist told me that toners are useful for minimizing pores.)
The Proactiv products are overpriced and undersized. There are more cheap and natural ways to help your skin, such as honey.
works beautifully to make my skin clearer and softer
This is the only toner I love and I hope formulation stays the same! It helps prevent/treat my breakouts and even my skin tone. I have been using it for 7 years!!! I have normal/combo skin, so if you have sensitive skin the glycolic acid in it may irritate it a bit…so try using a small amount every other or every two days first til you build up a tolerance 🙂
Love this product
My son loves all of the proactive products. He does a lot of metal forging and it is rough on his skin but these products help.
Great for acne and anti-aging
I have combination skin. Some parts are oily and some parts are dry. In my regimen I need to address breakout control AND anti-aging. You may only think of this Proactiv product for acne but it is also for anti-aging (even though it is not marketed that way). The main active ingredient is glycolic acid, an AHA (Alpha hydroxy acid), which exfoliates the top layer of your skin and helps unclog your pores. Glycolic acid goes under the upper layers of skin and destroys the `glue’ which holds dead skin to the surface. The result is a smoother skin surface, smaller pores and less breakouts. As I am sure many readers are aware, glycolic acid is a main ingredient in many anti-aging products from L’Oreal to Peter Thomas Roth. This active ingredient isn’t only for acne, its a very important active ingredient to have in your anti-aging regimen as well.In my personal opinion, one of the reasons the Proactiv line is so successful is that it uses proven ingredients like glycolic acid and benzoyl peroxide in a lower concentration than many other products. Glycolic acid can be found in strengths of 3%-15% normally. The Proactiv toner is a 5% solution. It also contains witch hazel and aloe vera. It is also alcohol free. I also find it reasonably mild. If you do not use any glycolic products I think incorporating this into your regimen even just once a day will make a difference. I also love the Somme Institute transport pads. I used to use those daily and I loved them. However, they are too strong given my recent addition of Retin-A into my regimen. They are also significantly more expensive. The Mario Badescu glycolic toner is also good but I find this one to be more effective. I usually use it in the morning after washing. I use my Mario Badescu cucumber cleansing lotion as my night toner/astringent. I do not want to mix my Retin-A with glycolic acid so I use a different morning and nighttime toner/astringent.While this review is of Proactiv’s toner, I would also note that I think their repairing treatment is good for a similar reason: it only has 2.5% of benzoyl peroxide. Brands like Clean&Clear; and Stridex and even Neutrogena put much higher levels of Benzoly Peroxide in their products and often concentrations of 5% and 10% are too drying and irritating. More is not always better. A lower level concentration more regularly is a better and more effective solution with some active ingredients. For more reviews check out pimples and wrinkles. it does work
I’ve tried all of the ones that come in the set but I use off brand scrub, then this, then simple moisturizer
runs out fast
not sure if i am using tooo much of this at a time or what, but everytime i order a kit, i always have to order another bottle of this toner shortly after (within the month) …either way: the kit works, so i will continue to buy lol
The best toner I’ve ever used
I have sensitive/combination skin and I didn’t realize how much I loved this product until I ran out and my skin just wasn’t the same. It’s alcohol-free, so there is no burning or dryness like with most toners. The soothing ingredients keep my skin clear and smooth like nothing else I’ve tried. I use it after the Proactiv cleanser to remove any traces of makeup left behind. The bottle is a nice size, so it lasts a while depending on how often you use it. I can’t be without this stuff!
I always come back to this toner
This toner is very good. It’s gentle and picks up all of the grime that the cleanser doesn’t capture. It’s not harsh and it soothes the skin. I will always use this toner.
I always used the Clinique toner. Number 3 in the fall and winter. Then number 4 in the spring and summer. I decide to purchase this Proactiv Toner because it was cheaper. It has a weird smell to it. I am very sensitive to smells in face products and I don’t like it. I have very oily skin and it does nothing to control that. It does’t help to reduce my acne. It’s nothing special.
My son is 17 and started using proactive about 2 months ago and it is amazing how much his face and back have cleared up. Great product but you have to be diligent on using it.
I use it for almost ten years and now that my daughter is started using it for her teen daily cleaning procedure. It does help her skin go clean.
4 oz is small compared to my other bottles
It’s not as much liquid as I thought it would be but it does its job. I reccomend buying a bigger bottle.
Love this toner
I love this toner, it really tightens my pores. It cleans wthout stripping my sensitive skin. The best out there.
I bought this for my son, it was a fairly decent price but it isn’t what it is hyped up to be. he ended up getting something else.
I have been using Proactiv Solution Renewing Cleanser (part 2 of 3 steps) for many years. I believe it does help controlling acne and keeping my face toned. If I do get any acne, it is mild. I do notice a difference in my skin. Prices from Amazon are good. I prefer buying the Proactiv 3 step kit in pieces, because I use the toner slower than Step 1 and Step 3 that come when you buy the kit. I did originally buy as a kit, but I find it more cost effective to buy each piece separately. Thank you!
The best toner there is.
I have used the proactiv line in the past and it worked wonders for my skin until it started to dried it out. I recently started to break out again on my forehead. I have combo skin and I used this toner on my skin one night. The next morning the zits had drastically reduced in size . I have moderate acne so I’m not sure if it will work on cystic acne but it really helps my skin. It feels so fresh when I apply it and makes my face feel clean . I’ve heard that the witch hazel is great for toning and it also has glycolic acid to boost cell turnover and help to get rid of dead skin cells. It makes my face glow and I love it! Great product.
Good Product, Regrettable Pricing
There are obviously questions as to whether this product is necessary or just another unnecessary expense/step to the regimen, I’ll let other people debate that. I like the product myself, I give it 5 out of 5. Tip: Try this product for a few days, and if after you apply it to a cotton ball, you don’t notice the oil and dirt from your face onto the cotton ball, then it wouldn’t be relevant to you, however, if you do notice that the product extracted oil and dirt from your face even after washing your face, then the product may have some value. I regret not buying more of this stuff when it was cheaper here on Amazon. I purchased a 6oz bottle of this product (which is noticeably larger when compared to the 4oz bottle) for about $12.50, had I known that the product was going to sell out, I would have purchased more of it as opposed to paying a similar, but more costly price of $9.99 for a 4oz bottle (in terms of ounces). Once again, 5 out of 5 for the product, I just should have stocked up and bought the 6oz instead of the 4oz for the inexpensive price.
I love this product. It really works. I have very sensitive skin and cannot use just anything on my skin so I was hesitant about using proactiv but it works really well.
Love this toner
I have had acne since I was a young teen, with only intervals of clear skin throughout my life; I’m forty now. It’s annoying, and disheartening, and it really messes with your self esteem. As I got older I found the Proactiv system that worked in my twenties and early thirties was drying my skin out. I searched and searched for a more natural alternative (I only eat natural and really wanted all natural stuff on my skin) but honestly, I couldn’t find a natural product that worked, and I tried plenty. My empty bank account will confirm that. 🙂 My dermatologist put me back on retin-a, and it’s helping with the hormonal acne and overall appearance of my skin, but it wasn’t until I started using the repairing lotion and toner that my skin showed real, deep signs of improvement. My Dr. says toners don’t do anything. She’s not the only one, I’ve had other doctors say it as well. I don’t agree. This toner rehydrates and clarifies my skin. I wash with pure African Black soap, Proactiv toner, repairing lotion on chin and spots only, then moisturize. I really recommend this toner. It helps with redness, and flakey or dry tight skin. Worth it!
It really cleans
I use to have the Proactic system, that included this toner, the scrubbing lotion, and the actual acne lotion but the scrubbing lotion really irritated my skin so I stop using that and just used this Toner. The Toner does work. When I watch my face at night, and I use soap, I use to think my skin was clean. Then I put this toner on a cotton ball, and wipe my face, and when I looked at the cotton ball, it took off additional dirt that the soap left behind.I do wish this was cheaper but I will continue to buy it as it helps keep my face clean.
too expensive for the size
The proactiv brand is just too expensive for the sizes you get. Used it for years before switching to Basis face cleanser. Also it worked OK, but wasn’t the best product line.
Proactiv Solution Revitalizing Toner
I have used this toner before and leaves a nice clean feeling. It makes my skin feel silky and clean and it also leaves a tight feeling after I use it. It gets the rest of the dirt residue that my facial cleanser leaves behind. It does help clear up any acne that you do have and prevent break outs. I would recommend this product.
Love this stuff.
I love this toner just the face wash not so much it just dues not work as well as it used to so I just stopped using it and when for St.Ives apricot scrub blemish and blackhead control and so far it works for me but I am in my 20ed’s so I’m not sure how this will work for teenagers sorry but I would definitely try Proactiv toner it still works great and try the face wash I don’t like it or the moisturizer b/c it makes me skin red and itchy but to each there own just get the free trial of proactiv that way u’ll know if u like it or not then just buy it here or there depends on how fast u go throw it I don’t go throw the toner as fast as most people do so I gut it here b/c it’s cheaper but if u go throw the proactiv products really fast like u need it every month or so then just take the ones a month deal ok I hope this helps.
