Works Well with my Sensitive Skin
I have sensitive and highly reactive skin; so it’s always a gamble when trying a new lotion… I’ve used this daily for 7 days now (mornings only) and so far, so good. No redness, itching or hives, even when applying straight out of the shower (which usually seems to speed up any possible adverse reaction in my skin). My rating would really be between 4 and 5 stars. As far as moisturizers goes, this does the job. I don’t feel like it does anything special besides making my skin feel well balanced – it’s neither oily, greasy or dry; skin just feels comfortable. It seems to do a great job as a base under my foundation; makeup applies smoothly overtop once it’s had a moment to absorb. I dislike fragrance in my lotions ‘in general’ and would prefer this without, but I don’t find it offensive. Really impressed that it has not irritated my skin, at least not as of yet. I don’t suspect that it will later on either since any adverse affects I’ve experienced in the past occur immediately or by day 4-5, but if that should change I’ll update my review. Overall, I’m impressed and happy to use this as my go-to moisturizer for now.
Strange stuff indeed
I do not understand this product. First impressions can mean a lot. In this case, I liked the fun and vibrant packaging, but when I opened the jar, the color and texture of this product made me think someone had mislabeled it and it was actually hair gel. I was reluctant to put it on my face, but I have to review these products, so apply it I did.It goes on “wet,” takes a few minutes to dry, and leaves the skin somewhat matte looking. I can not discern any difference between my skin before and after application of this product. Is it moisturizing? It didn’t seem as if it was. I have dry skin, and it was dry before application, and dry afterwards.Additionally, I find the smell too strong. It’s a perfectly nice clean flowery scent, but I wear perfume and I don’t want to wear something this fragrant right on my face or have my skin care product overpower or clash with my perfume. But, that’s a minor consideration when I can’t detect any moisturizing properties in this at all.I am surprised. I use quite a few Olay products and like them a lot. I did think this might work as a light primer under foundation from what I read in other reviews, but it did not. I see other people gave this product five stars. I don’t know what is happening on their skin, but it sure isn’t on mine!
good for a layer effect
I use this before the other facial creams and it seems to help plump my skin somewhat. It is similar to the garnier gel. It definitely is not all natural, I do wish it were easier to find a more natural facial moisturizer that worked good. Here is a list of the ignredients-Water/Eau, glycerin, Cyclopentasiloxane,Niacinamide*, propylene glycol, dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract^, Panthenol**, Tocopheryl Acetate***, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Glycereth-25 Pca Isostearate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Acrylamide/Sodium Acryloyldimethyltaurate Copolymer, Aminomethyl Propanol, Phenoxyethanol, dimethiconol, C13-14 Isoparaffin, allantoin, Fragrance/Parfum,Methylparaben, titanium dioxide, Laureth-7, Propylparaben, Ethylparaben, Disodium Edta, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Silica, Ammonium Polyacrylate, Green 5, Yellow 5. *Vitamin/Vitamine B3, **Pro-Vitamin/Provitamine B5, ***Vitamin/Vitamine E, ^White Tea/Thé Blanc
Feels nice at first
I’m not the biggest fan of this product but it has lots of potential. I have dry skin and currently am dedicated to another moisturizer and in comparing it to this I notice that upon application this gel has a wet feel and then it dries. When it dries, my face feels even dryer so I’m not sure a gel moisturizer would be for me. However, it you have somewhat oily skin, I could see this working.
Light and not greasy
I’m in my early 60’s so my skin is going through a lot of changes. I definitely need to use a moisturizer, but don’t like heavy ones.I prefer gels, lotions or creams that are soaked up without leaving an oily residue. This moisturizer smells good and goes on easily. It makes my skin feel good when I apply it, but it takes a little while to fully soak in and dry. Until then, it’s slightly tacky whether I apply a little or a lot.I’ve been alternating between this moisturizer, camellia seed oil and rosehip oil.My skin hasn’t had any bad reactions to any of them. This product is moderately priced and serves the purpose it is designed to do.I would purchase this in the future.
Olay Fresh Effects Dew Over Hydrating Gel Moisturizer
Honestly, I didn’t notice much of anything. This pale blue gel has a light fragrance and feels much like aftershave.I did not feel much in the hydration and I didn’t like the filmy feel to it.The price is affordable, but I wouldn’t purchase this.
Great Lightweight Moisturizer
This is a great, lightweight moisturizer if your skin doesn’t need a heavy duty skin care for more mature skin care. It glides on really smooth and flawlessly. Your foundation, be it liquid or powder will go on without any problem and lasts through the day without any touchup. The real test will be the summer which is coming up, but for winter and spring its been great. Would highly recommend for skin in the late 20’s to mid 30’s.
I have dry sensitive skin and this hydrate’s well and does not seem to bother my skin. It does not fill gooey like some gel creams do.
Feels great when I first put it on…
First impressions on this product were very good, I did like the scent which is surprising as I’m usually overly sensitive to it (them). I liked the gel feel to it, and when I first put it on it felt very nice and very refreshing. But…then gets a dryish, taut feeling to my skin. I did have a bit of a break out after the first use, but that’s not uncommon for any new skin product I try. After that, no issues, but I’m not jumping up and down for joy either – I just don’t feel moisturized.
Another great Olay Product
My favorite moisturizer over the past few years has been OLAY, Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution, because it makes my skin feel great longer and smooth to the touch even for a baby boomer like me.That being said, I was curious about Gel moisturizers, and looking for something new for daytime use, so I decided to give OLAY Fresh Dew Effects a try. I was pleasantly surprised. This Gel moisturizer makes my skin feel tingly and honestly, my skin seems to glow/shine a bit after using it for about 2 weeks. I use this in the a.m. only ( I still use the Regenerist at night), and so far so good. Price seems reasonable as well. I don’t like it as much as my nighttime OLAY product, but still worthy of 4/5 star rating.
Olay Fresh Effects Dew Over Hydrating Gel Moisturizer is an invigorating part of my skin care regimen. First of all, it’s an Olay product – enough said. Second, Olay’s Fresh Effects product line contains light and fresh-smelling cosmetics and skin care products. Third, this is a super light, super hydrating moisturizer, so you only need a little dab for complete hydration! It makes my skin feel fresh and dewy. I usually follow up with an application of Olay’s Fresh Effects BB Cream!
Worked Better Than Regenerist . . . .
Last fall, when I knew the cold weather and electric heat were coming, I got the moisturizer I have been meaning to try for years–Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream, 1.7 Ounce. That is the stuffGood Housekeeping (1-year auto-renewal)once tested and said was better than a $500 cream they also tested. Well, either Olay changed the ingredients in it since that testing, or maybe it was just my skin type, but Regenerist ended up being a total waste of money. It did nothing for my skin except make it look duller. When I got thisOlay Fresh Effects Dew Over Hydrating Gel Moisturizer, 1.7 Fluid Ounce, I immediately stopped using the Regenerist and used this only at night. It worked much better and left my skin brighter; although my skin doesn’t absorb it as well as other gel types I’ve tried. The perfume scent is also not one I like, but it causes no headaches and dissipates quickly. I stopped using this Fresh Effects tonight, however, because now I am tryingOlay Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream, 1.7 Ouncefor two months. If that doesn’t work well, or when I run out of it, I’ll probably go back to this gel moisturizer. It’s good enough.
Light and Refreshing!
Olay Fresh Dew Over Hydrating Gel Moisturizer is a very light moisturizer but is just enough to keep your skin hydrated. The moisturizer is not heavy but it stills refreshes your skin and doesn’t clog your skin like some of the much heavier creams. I like the way that the Olay Moisturizer is light and that is perfect for me because I live in Florida and the humidity can really cause you to sweat if you are using a heavy moisturizer and that’s why the Olay Fresh Effects Dew is perfect for my skin. The gel is light and not overly scented which causes less breakouts. I just love that this Olay moisturizer is perfect for my skin and doesn’t clog up my pores like other moisturizers have done. A perfect wake-up to your skin and I love it.
A Great New Olay Moisturizer
I’ve been an Olay user since my teens. I’ve tried other products, but I always come back to Olay because I can trust my skin to their products and they’re reasonably priced. Sure, I’ve liked some products better than others, but I’ve never had an Olay product damage or irritate my skin. I can’t say that about other brands.I’d heard that gel moisturizers are better for oily skin, and skin is scarily oily! So I was really excited to try this gel from Olay’s new Fresh Effects line. I certainly wasn’t disappointed! Most moisturizers leave my skin looking shiny (yes, even my beloved Total Effects 7). It’s rare that I come across a product that doesn’t. Dew Over is one of the few! My skin feels refreshed after application – like it’s had a cool drink of water – but it looks soft and velvety matte. It has a light, airy texture that goes on smooth and feels wonderful on the skin. What’s more, I don’t notice a thick sheen of oil hours later.I love the scent of the product, as well. It smells so fresh and clean. The product does not contain a sunscreen. As nice as it would be to have that in there, it would probably change the texture and feel of the product way too much. The products in the Fresh Effects line are made to be layered, so I do know that there is a sunscreen designed to be used with it.The Fresh Effects line is marketed toward younger women – those in their late teens and early to mid-twenties. I’m a bit outside that range, but I love what I’ve seen from the line so far. I’m extremely happy with Dew Over and will definitely buy it again…and try other products in the line.
I SO wanted to keep using this
I have always loved Olay products and when I first began using this, I thought this would be no different. Loved the way it felt, loved the way it went on my skin. Loved the way my skin felt after application. Unfortunately, my skin didn’t love it as much as I did. Within three days, my cheeks, chin and forehead were beginning to break out. So I stopped using it for a week or so until my face returned to normal.Tried again, and three days later had the same problem. Don’t know if I’m allergic to one of the ingredients and it is just my skin type – but this product is simply not for me.I’m not at all saying that others shouldn’t try this. Like I said, loved the way it felt – just wasn’t overall happy with the results of its use. But, for younger, maybe less sensitive skin, I think it would probably be a fine product.
One of the lightest most subtle fragrances you can get so if you’re not looking for something overpowering or perfumy, this is it. Love the honeydew white-tea scent. Also is reasonably priced and actually delivers instead of being overpriced. It moisturizes and has a unique feel to it when applied to skin. It’s made of a lightweight gel and hydrates for 24 hours to awaken your skin with a well rested look. You can also mix, match, and layer with other Olay products. Plus it’s oil free and non-comedogenic, so it won’t block your pores. Also, I have sensitive skin and this didn’t adversely effect me. With this you get cooling hydration, a lot of moisturizer and results at a reasonable price.
Worked well but consistency may not be for everyone…
This product has a very unique feel and consistency. Most of my night time moisturizers are creamy and it is easy to believe that you are getting the proper mositure. When I first used this product, I missed that effect. However, after using it for a bit longer, I discovered it did do the job and my skin felt moisturized and looked hydrated.Long term effects will continued to be assessed. It would be such a boost in day and night moisturizers if they were all contained in tubes. This would ensure efficacy and earn a fifth star.
Age 51, see photo on profile!
I’ve been using Oil of Olay products on my face for 30 years, and this hydrating gel is the nicest smelling, night time moisturizer I’ve had the opportunity to use. My face is clearer, softer, and has less visible lines after 3 weeks. At age 51 (real age!), I think I could pass for a 30-something. (Image uploaded 4/17/14…completely make up free!)If you want to know exactly what I use – Dove soap (cleansing), Oil of Olay Complete SPF 15 (daytime), and this product, Oil of Olay Hydrating Gel (overnight).
A bit sticky
Nice scent but a bit sticky. Left my skin a tad dry. (needed to use an additional moisturizer when used).
Nice surprise, good for the heat of summer.
This item was given to me for my review. So far, this product has been a nice surprise. I love that it goes on and gives my skin a matte finish. We are already getting some hot summer-like days, and my normal routine is just a bit too oily for this weather. However, I have VERY sensitive skin, so I did not really think I could use this. I’ve worn it a few times, and so far, so good. It takes my wet dry foundation (I put on dry), beautifully, and it seems to last the day. So far, I am really pleased with it.
Sticky & Not As Mosturizing as other Olay products
I’ve been using Olay moisturizers for years and have been very happy with them. They are consistently good for the price. This one is about half the price of what I normally pay for the Olay product that I’ve used for years. I actually got this for my mother who complains about dry facial skin all of the time. She’s older, and using Olay daily lotion, but after reading the description I thought that maybe this might be good for her to put on at night. For her it didn’t seem to make any difference, so I decided to try it.I used it at night, since it says you’ll wake up with refreshed skin. I thought it felt a bit sticky going on and took longer to absorb than the other lotions that I use. After it dried I did feel that my skin was a bit tight, almost like it was a very thin mask on my skin. I don’t know if I used to much or what, either way I didn’t really feel like it did much for me either.Clearly I think this is marketed to younger women (teens-twenties) who are looking for a product that is a light moisturizer that won’t make your skin breakout and will hydrate it a bit. It’s packaging, marketing and pricing are geared towards this market…of which I am not one, LOL. I like Olay products, but I think that the Olay Fresh Effects Dew Over is only for fresh faced lovelies that are under 25 🙂
Amazing for MY skin!
Yes, this is amazing for MY skin and here’s why. My skin is oily and dry (the worst combo I think!) and every moisturizer I try is always heavy and left my face shiny.. very shiny. But trying a gel sounded promising but I wasn’t expecting how great this would be for MY face. First off, a little goes a very long way (learned that the hard way the first time, lol). Just a little and it spreads so smoothly everywhere and soaks up quickly. But the best part for me was that it felt slightly cooling, thus refreshing as advertised (for once this statement for a product was actually true). Lightly scented which is very nice and after it soaks up completely, my face was very smooth and soft. I’ve never wanted to really "boast" about a product but I took it over my gf house and told her to try it… she didn’t want to give it back! Since this product is soo good I want to definitely try others in this Fresh Effects line and hope the rest are just as great. And no, I’ve actually never been a big fan of Olay. Not a bad price either.
Not enough Hydrating Moisturizer – Left my Skin Feeling a Litte Dry.
I have used the entire jar of the Fresh Effects Dew Over moisturizing gel. Overall, I think the hype (for vibrant, beautiful skin…) is way overplayed. The good part is that even with applying the Fresh Effects liberally to my face, the ingredients did not make my skin break out. However, the bad part is that even with applying the Fresh Effects liberally to my face, upon drying, my face felt tight & dry – I felt like I needed to add more moisturizer (which I did).I am not impressed with the results of the product. The product has nice packaging & great marketing, but the end result is a let down.Others have questioned whether to use Fresh Effects at night or daytime – the packaging says "beauty sleep never looked so good", so it seems that the product is intended to be used at bedtime. I tried both day & night & saw no difference in effect.
Light, Gentle Textured Moisturizer – Fresh Fragrance
Light, soft textured gel moisturizer with a very fresh, pleasant fragrance. Feels very nice on the face, and if it has a shortfall, it is that it seems to disappear (either absorbed or evaporated) in a relatively short time. To enjoy the moisturizing effects, I have to reapply 3 times a day; and that isn’t necessarily convenient or possible.
OK for an OTC product
My wife’s review: I am not a huge fan of over-the-counter creams or skin products of any nature. Typically they feel greasy. This gel does go on clean, without the feeling of oil just sitting on top of your skin. My skin is what I would call combination – some dry and some oily areas. Not a skin type that will break out easily. I liked the Olay and felt it did help somewhat, but I did not test this in the sun or for longer than a few days.
Not my first pick
This is a gel moisturizer, the texture is a bit gooey. It is extremely refreshing if your skin is suffering from too much exposure to the elements, it has a cooling effect. But as my moisturizer, I expect it to do a lot. Reduce puffiness, make my skin silky soft, protect it from the sun….I guess I’m just not a fan of the gel texture. My face feels sticky for a little while after putting it on.
I mostly use Olay and Panteene products, so I was happy to find this item. One dab covered 1/3 of my face. So I do not have to use a lot. I have been using this almost a full week now and the jar still looks full. If you have ever put cool cucumbers over your eyes, then you will understand how this feels going on. Fresh, moist, and cool, it feels wonderful. It is so light weight that I cannot tell that anything is being put on/in my skin. It sinks in quickly, without any tackiness. When this jar runs out, I will be getting another bottle. This one is a Keeper.Reviewed by Detra Fitch.
When Should I use this?
Olay products are used regularly in our household, but this one left me wondering when exactly I should it. The packaging simply said to apply to face and neck. Should I use it just at night? Under my makeup? After sun exposure? I am not entirely sure. I started with just using it at night. It definitely has a nice cooling effect on the skin, and initially made my skin look quite oily. This did dry fairly quickly though. I have sensitive skin but thankfully have not noticed a worse reaction post use. I have not tried it under makeup yet as it feels too thick of a moisturizer for that. It has a pleasant scent, though I am not sure I really want a scent in my face lotion. A little goes a long way with this product so for the price it is a bargain compared to so many other moisturizers out there. I am just not sure the best way to use it yet.
Very Good Hydration For The Price
The Olay Fresh Effects moisturizer offers excellent hydration at a reasonable price. It has a light scent and it goes on without an oily residue. It does not clog your pores like a lot of other hydrating moisturizers do so you wont have to worry about acne forming after you use this. The price is reasonable (especially for an Olay product) but it is by no means a bargain for its 1.7 oz size. This is why it earns 4 stars instead of 5.
It is refreshing!
This product is as advertized. I have been using it for a couple weeks alternating between my other moisturizer (Simple Hydrating Light Moisturizer). It is a non-greasy gel that does give a cooling feel for a short time after applying. It dries quick and applies clear. It is a light green color, which I wasn’t expecting, but didn’t turn me off. The lotion has a light, but pleasant smell. My skin does feel fresh and soft after use. I find a little goes a long way. 1.7 oz will last a while. I could see myself using this more in the summer after a day in the sun. I don’t think I would feel the need to run out and buy this exact stuff when I run out. I am also not one to be picky about my lotions either.
