Honest reviews

Better than the stuff at Wal-Mart

There are some pros and cons with this soap, as with most things. Pros: smells great, natural ingredients, non-drying, and helps clear up skin a little (yes, just a little). Cons: leaves a blackish/brown film all over the shower (MOST annoying thing about this product. It doesn’t matter if you clean your shower frequently, this soap will make it look dirty immediately after using). MELTS easily in water, bad if you leave in a wet soap dish. In my personal opinion, there are better products out there that are better for problematic skin, and that don’t have the same drawbacks.

Less irritating than other black soaps

I first tried a raw, natural African black soap from Nature and Herbs. It felt very harsh on my skin – I felt a burning/stinging sensation on my cheeks when I washed with it, and afterwards, my skin felt squeaky clean, but not in a good way – it felt raw and stripped.Based on reviews, I decided to try the Nubian Heritage black soap. I purchased it at Whole Foods for three dollars and ninety-nine cents. It smells delicious. It does not burn my skin (but don’t get it in your eyes!). I haven’t used it long enough to see if my skin benefits from it, but I will update my review after a month. I’m hoping the soap will clear up my blemishes (it’s not fair that I should still be getting pimples in my 40s!!) and help fade old blemish scars.

Facial Soap

I use the Africian Black Soap and thought I’d have my daughter give them one a shot. It really helps clear up acne. She uses it in the morning and at bedtime. It’s also very helpful after a good workout (sweat).

Not so great

I was interested in African Black Soap from the rave reviews I had read online about its benefits. this particular brand had received good press so I thought I would try it. The product itself is a let down, it is very drying to my skin and the smell is not that great. The worst part of my transaction was dealing with the seller. I ordered two soaps by accident and tried several times to contact the seller to get them to cancel my second order and they responded once by saying they only saw one order in their system. I knew this was not true because my amazon account had two and I was certainly billed for two. Eventually the seller stopped responding and shipped out both soaps. So, if you’re going to try the African Black soap, try another seller. This one doesn’t seem to care much about customer satisfaction.

Must Buy

Great SOAP. I love the smell of the soap. This item isnt HARSH but very creamy that can be used daily.

this one is a better soap for me…

i was using the DuDu soap for over a year. It’s been great for the body, but about 1 week after posting my review (2 weeks after receiving it), my face broke out in hives. It’s not the soap’s fault, nor the manufacturer, i just have this very sensitive skin. I wound up going back to using my old stand by: “Kiss My Face” Olive oil soap, while using the DUDU on the body.i decided to try a different brand, and started shopping. Nubian heritage came up. I gave it a try on the same sensitive area. There has not been any break outs, hives, nothing. The Kiss My Face is okay – but my skin looks cleaner, and has a softer feel to it when using the Nubian heritage.i’ve been washing with it for 3 weeks, and crossing my fingers, no break outs or itching. Plus, it’s about $.50 cheaper than DuDu..depending on the seller. if you buy it from Swansons, where i first discovered it? it’s $2.61 a bar.

Good stuff

I really like this soap for my face and body. It doesn’t leave me feeling dried out like most soaps. Even organic home made type of soaps are very harsh :/ it has a tolerable smell too. It’s perfumy but they don’t over do it . Also it’s scores a zero on the think dirty app so it’s pretty safe to use 🙂

fairly good

I have used better face soaps but they keep discontinuing them or the price is astronomical. This is a very good soap for the price. My face does not break out when I use this soap, so I think it’s doing the job well enough.

Not effective for me

I purchased this African black soap to see if it would help reduce/eliminate my acne. I’m giving this one star for now because I feel like I’ve been using it for a long enough time (1 month and 9 days – morning and night) to where I would be able to see results. If I continue using it and it begins to work, I’ll update.Pros:-My skin seems to kind of have a "brighter" appearance to it. I’m not sure if this is why.-Pleasant scent.-Natural ingredients.Cons:-Makes my face feel a bit "stripped" after washing with it.-Makes my face look really shiny after washing with it.-Makes my skin look oilier throughout the day (perhaps it’s increased the oil production from the detox process?)-Makes my pores look enlarged.-The detox process was hard on my skin… It caused a lot of acne to pop up and it stayed a while. This part seems hard to judge because I struggle with acne already, but it definitely increased the amount I had.I’m wondering if this soap didn’t help me because my acne is caused by a bigger problem, or that it’s just not right for my skin type.I should mention that I’ve been using other face washes in addition to this soap. I haven’t followed this exactly the whole time, but basically this is what I do: In the morning, I use this soap first, followed by another face wash (usually an exfoliating one). At nighttime, I use a makeup removing face wash first, followed by this soap. All in all, I’m not pleased with this product and I don’t plan on repurchasing it.

A different kind of soap.

I have a mostly black powder room, and this color soap is just right in my soap dish.It is mostly "for looks".

My Face Loves this Soap!!!

My face loves this soap! This soap has made a world of difference to my sensitive acne prone face. My face does not break out; it is not oily or dried out; it feels and looks smoother, dewy and softer; my acne scars are fading; the results were seen almost immediately. This soap appears to have natural ingredients and it smells wonderful. One bar of this soap can last a long time.

Mixed feelings

I love the soap. It doesn’t dry out my skin. It smells amazing. However, it sharp shards of something in it. Once the soap is used a few times these shards get uncovered & scratch the skin.

Juana Blockton, IA

It’s okay

I’m a big fan of african soap but I’m not impressed with this version. I got better results from just the regular soap without the shea and whatnot. I will not purchase this version again.

Good stuff

I was really hoping this would clear my acne up completely but it hasn’t. It has made a major difference in my skin, and I’m still using it. It’s been maybe 2 or 3 weeks so I still have hope. It made my body acne purge so beware.

Part of my personal skincare routine

I gotta say I’ve used this soap not only for my face but whole body, especially because I live with a lot of people and they often use up the body soap before I get a chance to.I use this as part of my one of my two daily cleanings, either in the morning or at night to wash my face and I love the smell! It makes my face feel nice, soft and cleans out any of the makeup/nightcream I use.If you’re overly sensitive to smells, you may not like it. It has a soft smell but it bothered my parents for example. I love it personally. It’s definitely a go: affordable, healthy ingredients, gentle for most skin types…I have rosecea.

This soap is amazing!

I saw that it had great reviews and figured I would try it out and boy am I glad I did! Your skin feels SO clean when you wash it off, you can tell it really removes all dirt and oil from your pores. I use it all over my body and I even washed my face with it. I have developed some hormonal acne with age right in my T zone on my face and I have tried a ridiculous amount of acne products. I recently decided to go organic and thought maybe all of those harsh soaps I use could be part of the problem. This soap has really cleared my face up already and I have only been using it for a week or so. Smells great too! Nubian Heritage rocks
