Didn’t work for my daughter.

I used this on my 3 year old and she didn’t even seem to mind that it was on her fingers. In the products defense, I got it on my fingers once and hated it!

Sent me the wrong product!

they sent me the wrong product! I wanted the mavala stop and instead I got some nail strengthening polish. I couldn’t send it back because it looked so similar so I threw away the packaging. It was only after I used it that I noticed it was different.

Works!

Let me begin by saying I have run the gamut of thumb-sucking and nail biting since I was a very young child. For the longest, about ten years, my only recourse was to get my nails done with acrylic tips to keep my nails from being bitten and them growing. Long story short, I grew tired of throwing away good money every month on the upkeep. So, I needed something that was going to keep my from biting. Well, this product is it! It tastes something terrible and be warned when eating finger foods. It is like Mavala has something in it soak through your fingertips or something! I got around it eating with a fork. It has been three weeks with no biting and I have visible growth. I have tried, yes, but upon my fingers getting to my lips–UUUGGGHHH!!!! The taste is gross! No biting. lol

Works great and not just for finger nails and thumbs

This stuff is great for anything you want to keep out of your kid’s mouths. My daughter would absent mindedly chew on her iPod headset cord. A quick coating of this stuff, just on the section she put in her mouth, cured her of that potentially expensive habit.

Stopped biting my nails

I have been biting my nails for as long as I remember. I wanted to stop so I purchased this back in December. I did have to apply it every couple of days but after 2 weeks…I don’t bite my nails anymore. My only complaint is that this stuff is so powerful that you can’t really eat small things with your hands without making your food taste terrible. On the other hand, it is also a good way to curb that Cheetos habit 😉

It Worked in Three Days!

I suggested this to my daughter for my grandson. She’s usually skeptical about my recommendations in this area, but she bought it through Amazon, and my TWO-YEAR OLD grandson was free from thumb-sucking in just three days! This stuff’s been around for years, and now I’m wondering why more parents don’t use it before thumb-sucking becomes harmful to their kid’s bite. I don’t think it does anything for their bite…

I Love it, The Kids Not So Much

Both of my kids (ages 4 & 5 respectively) have little habits that are less than desired: one thumb sucks, the other is a nail and toenail biter. Bribery, punishment, and begging pleading and whining did nothing. Deciding that I was fighting one majorly losing battle, I decided it was time to call in the reinforcements…I bought a bottle of Mavala Stop.Following the advice of other reviewers, I put on a small amount on the tips of my kid’s fingers and thumbs only. That small amount was more than enough to cause my kids to look at their fingers in confusion and go "blech". It was hard to not laugh at my daughter’s perplexed look when she started sucking her thumb then confused tongue/lip smacking after a few seconds of sucking. We’d get her to rinse out her mouth then let her carry on. On the first night we applied it (right before bedtime and during storytime), she ended up going to sleep without sucking her thumb. I noticed that she didn’t bother sucking her thumb all of the next day either. SUCCESS! And all without a fight. Noticed the son isn’t biting his nail either…I’ll probably keep reapplying every few days while he’s asleep to ensure those nails get ample time to grow out!Highly recommended.

Worked great for awhile

Bought this product by a recommendation from my dentist for my 4 yo daughter who sucks her fingers. Worked great for about 3 weeks, as the flavor is appalling and long-lasting. Much stronger than similar products on the market. Unfortunately, my daughter’s habit was too strong and she eventually sucked her fingers again anyway. I would recommend this product anyway, as it deterred her for awhile when other products didn’t even phase her.

Not effective for severe cases!!

My 2 year old has a SEVERE case where he is sucking on his index fingers so severe that his fingers are blistered/callused and swollen, he’s even ripped into the skin, he’s been sucking on those fingers since birth and even in utero as a way to comfort himself. I’ve tried several products including THUM I read the reviews on the Mavala Stop and was impressed and anxious to try but it doesn’t work for my little guy, he seems to be ok with the taste (as dreadful as it is) Yuck! What has been successful is wrapping his little fingers in medical tape with cute little Band-Aids over that. LOL

Too strong

This would probably work better than all other brands, but the solution is just super strong and bitter. The taste gets into food all day long, and my 10 year old son simply refuses to use it.

Gets my son to stop biting nails

My son has a problem with biting his nails. I just brush this on his nails and the minute he tastes it he stops. The first time he tasted it, it tasted so bad that he called it poison. Then when it wore off he came to me and said that the poison was gone and I had to add more to his nails! Awesome stuff!

This stuff works

We used this on our 4 year old to get him to stop sucking his thumb. It worked after just 2 days. He did have a bit of a relapse a few months later but we just reapplied and once again he stopped. You get a lot of product (more than you will need) so if you have any relapses you are covered.Note: Only apply a little to the tip of the thumb. You DON’T need a lot of product to get the job done.

Thumb sucking 6 year old is no more!

Our six year old daughter got the final warning from the dentist – quit sucking her thumb or else! We ordered this product and have been very, very happy. She is old enough that she was able to stop her thumb sucking during the day of her own accord, but it was night-time that was the problem. She would begin sucking her thumb after she had fallen asleep. This product was perfect! Even in her sleep it tastes bad and she would take her thumb out of her mouth! She did complain about the taste when eating finger foods, but it wasn’t that big of a problem. It does need to be reapplied every other day.I highly recommend this product – and I wish that we had found it about two years ago!

MAVALA + Manicure Helped Me Quit

I was a pretty incurable nail biter. The only thing that would ever stop me from biting my nails when I’m nervous is a fresh manicure…because I don’t like to waste money! 😉 Mavala is really, really nasty. But if you are as insane as I am, you might still bite your nails despite having a coat of this on. So I combine manicures and Mavala and my nails are super long and beautiful now. In the final days of my manicure when it starts to chip and I’m more likely to start biting my nails again, I apply Mavala rigorously to keep me from biting my nails. This tides me over until I have time to get a fresh manicure again.I agree with other criticisms from the reviews on Amazon: fingerfood experience can easily be ruined due to Mavala. Also, as a topcoat it is not very shiny and has a kind of “sticky”/nonreflective texture that doesn’t look that great.Overall, I rated this product a 5 because it delivers exactly what it promises: an absolutely disgusting topcoat that discourages nail biting.

Fast results!!!

I have a 3.5 year old thumb sucker. I talked up how we were going to be getting something to help him quick thumb sucking and nail biting before we got it. By the time it arrived, he insisted on using it. I let him apply it himself (with my supervision, of course!). It’s clear so it doesn’t really matter if it’s applied neatly or completely, just as long as there’s a little on each nail. The first 2 days, he kept forgetting and putting his fingers in his mouth only to be surprised by the bad taste! He rinsed his mouth and wiped his tongue with tissues to get it out! It only took about a week for him to kick the habit, and right now we’re only using it occasionally as he ‘relapses’.Great product, NASTY taste, EFFECTIVE!
