Would be perfect without the yellow dye
I try to avoid hair products that might add a yellow cast to my gray hair, and this has a buttery hue. Why not color the bottle instead of the product, as the conditioner is? Anyway, it lathers nicely with a small amount, seems to clean away styling product buildup, and has a nice, not too strong buttery floral scent, like maybe a very light jasmine. My fine, thin hair was clean, not stripped and not weighed down.
Left My Scalp Itchy
Although this shampoo is rich and creamy and left my hair clean and shiny I would not purchase it again. It left my scalp itchy and flaky.
I did not like this shampoo for one reason
I did not like this shampoo for one reason: it weighed my hair down. I felt like I couldn’t wash it out completely, and it was difficult to blow dry. My hair sat very flat even after blow drying with a round brush. It smelled pretty good, and but I would not use it again.
Fekkai Essential Shea Shampoo
The first thing I like about this shampoo is the fragrance. It boasts "jasmine and exotic florals." It smells nice without being overpowering and the lovely fragrance stays in my hair after washing, which I prefer. It only takes a little bit to wash my hair. As I am frugal at heart, this should last me quite a while and stretch my pennies. I have used this shampoo and coordinating conditioner exclusively and have noticed my hair looks and feels smooth for at least 3 days and then I wash my hair anyway. I do recommend this product.
Great shampoo but may make oily hair even oilier.
Five stars for Fekkai overall. In our opinion, Fekkai is the best brand for hair products out there. This particular Shea shampoo, however, is not great for my type of hair: which is massive amounts of fine hair. I think it just makes that type of hair a bit too smooth and slippery. This shampoo is so nourishing, it almost felt like shampoo and conditioner in one— but I’ve never liked that effect. My scalp seemed to get a bit oilier than usual with some build up. This shampoo might work better for hair courser than mine. Huge bonus, the fragrance is absolutely amazing. This particular Fekkai Shea Shampoo is best for either once a week use (with other Fekkai shampoos like the PrX Reparatives used in between), or for coarser, drier hair.Nevertheless: Recommended.
I really like this shampoo because long ago I realized the value …
I really like this shampoo because long ago I realized the value of shea butter in hair-care products. When I first used this shampoo, I noted it felt richer and seemed to suds-up to the perfect degree. My baby-fine hair doesn’t actually frizz, so that isn’t a problem with me. More often my problem is it tends to flyaway and look wind-blown. But no longer… Fekkai tamed it… :-)Another reason I like this shampoo is because it’s delightfully scented by jasmine and exotic florals. I prefer a crisp, clean hair fragrance, rather than a harsh, heavy, cloying scent that invades other people’s space. Thanks, Fekkai, for helping make me more presentable; for making me feel better about myself.Reviewed by Betty Dravis, July 20, 2014Author of "1106 Grand Boulevard"
Good Shampoo, similar to Salon Shampoo in texture and smell, but not seeing major impact.
I have natural curly, coarse textured hair that tends to be dry. I like products made with shea because I can really use the moisturizing, even though it may be heavy for some hair types. Normally I use Pantene or Organix Morrocan oil or Brazilian Keratin shampoos. I have never used Fekkai brand hair care before so I looked forward to trying it.The shampoo is a nice texture and I didn’t require a lot to shampoo — maybe about a quarter sized dollop for my hair that is mid-back length and thick.I usually shampoo twice on the scalp, and I found the smell and feel similar to a salon shampoo. It smells nice — a lot like you’d expect at a salon–not to strong but pleasant.Because I am only using the shampoo and not a shampoo/conditioner combo, I found that while my hair was clean, I didn’t notice any extra conditioning or softness in the texture. I just air dry, no dryers or other hair tools, and it’s not better than the products I normally use, so far after 2 weeks use.
Super soft hair but expensive
I normally use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner because it works best for my hair type, which is long, straight, fine, and dry. This shampoo had a soft floral scent that I wasn’t crazy about but it worked very well and lathered up nicely giving my hair super softness after it dried (naturally – no blow dryer). By the next morning it was still soft and looked good. I still prefer sulfate-free products but I would love to add this to my collection due to the incredible softness but the price point is too high. I get that you’re paying for name brand and great product but any shampoo or conditioner over $10 for 8 FL oz. is just crazy (in my opinion).
Ehhh.. not my favorite shampoo/conditioner by no means
While this shampoo and conditioner is not my favorite of all time, it is still ok. Has a nice smell and cleans well. It is very thick though and I had a hard time rinsing it from my hair even with smaller amounts applied. Other reviewers said that while they loved the Fekkai line of hair care, this particular "frizz smoothing" was not their favorite either. After repeated use, I found that I still had as many flyaways as other regular, cheaper shampoos any way… I’ll use what I have left, but not sure that I will purchase in the future.I compare this shampoo / conditioner to "Living Proof – No Frizz" which is my favorite and hands down, Living Proof has this brand beat for smoothing hair ESPECIALLY in humid weather. Both are expensive, so I’ll stick with the brand I have used and loved… no more Fekkai for me.
Great shampoo. The wife loves it!
This is a terrific shampoo. My wife had been a cosmologist and was exposed to all kinds of products in her career. She says this is the real deal. You can see the quality when you get the bottle. Well packaged, great smelling, and full of that extra quality you are seeking in a shampoo. The results for your hair are great!
Great Shampoo for My Husband
My husband’s hair is so very dry. He will wash it with anything, even bar soap which make is even dryer! This shampoo moisturizers his hair and leaves it soft instead of coarse. The smell is different, not exactly floral thank goodness! He likes that just a little bit goes a long way. Now he says that his hair feels really clean. It is a bit expensive but that balances out with just using a little bit.
Stolen From Shower Caddy!!!
My wife snapped this right out of my shower!! I was able to use the Fekkai shampoo twice….just twice, and when I told my wife about it she went right to my bathroom, took the bottle and moved it into hers!!I keep my hair pretty short, and shampoo is shampoo, as long as it lathers up and smells nice, I’m good to go. Apparently this Fekkai shampoo has or is something called a "De-Frizzer", and to keep from getting the Albert Einstein look, if you have longer hair, you may want to keep it "De-Frizzed". This is the reason my wife robbed me of my bottle of Shea Shampoo. She loves this shampoo, and says that it keeps her hair soft. (Good…I hate hard hair) And if it makes her happy, then that’s all I care about. So if you need a De-Frizzer (that also lathers up and smells good) then pick this up.
Fantastic Shampoo…but I’ve Just Fallen in Love with Another
I was running out of shampoo, so I bought 10 in One and ordered this one. The Fekkai shampoo smells wonderful and lathers beautifully. It leaves my hair in excellent shape. You’d think I would be tossing roses in its general direction…and I would, if the 10 in One didn’t de-friz my hair and make it even silkier than the Fekkai. The Fekkai smells much better and is more luxurious and I liked the way it made my hair look. After using it, my hair was clear of knots and looked great–but it wasn’t as soft and silky as the 10 in One. So my heart and mind insist I only give this shampoo 4 stars…but if we use a Romance Novel rubric, someone else will fall in love with it completely in the sequel.
I’ve used Fekkai shampoo before and I love the effects. This shea version follows in the Fekkai tradition. It has a good lather, an unusual but pleasant scent and leaves hair soft and manageable. I could see this becoming a favorite.
Fekkai Essential Shea Shampoo
This shampoos worked great, smells wonderful. Easy to use and no need for a conditioner afterwards. It left my hair soft and somewhat silky. My wife really liked it but it is pricey and somewhat out of our budget range.
Nice for a Spa Day
This shampoo produces impressive lather, and has a pleasant, light floral fragrance. It cleans without stripping the hair. But it does not clean well. The first few uses are delightful, but it does not do a good job of removing styling products. Thus, after three or four shampoos, one is left with buildup and may need to use a clarifying shampoo to remove it.It is not a shampoo and conditioner. It contains no detangling agents. It does not leave hair feeling dry, but conditioner is required to remove tangles. However, using it is an aesthetic delight. The shampoo does an ordinary job, at best. But the lather and fragrance are such a treat, it can be treated as a guilty pleasure, or used only when one feels the need for pampering.
Shampoo of the Gods
I love this shampoo. It’s fabulous, does an incredible job of cleaning and detangling and smells great. My hair actually felt conditioned after I used the shampoo even before I used the conditioner. I have very thick, course, naturally curly red hair that tends to frizz so using this in addition to the conditioner and the pot crème has improved the look, texture and overall condition of my hair tremendously. Look no further ladies, if you have hair like mine, you will love this shampoo.Although pricey and I received this product to try through the Amazon Vine Program. It’s well worth the investment and I will be purchasing the shampoo and conditioner when I run out. I recommend.
Fekkai Essential Shea Shampoo
I received the Fekkai Essential Shea Shampoo last week and so far have used it three times. Before I go into the review of the product I think it will help to describe my hair type. I have lots of medium, thick and semi-coarse, shoulder length hair. It naturally creates S shaped waves but doesn’t curl and it does frizz easily. My hair isn’t damaged to my knowledge. It’s not colored, permed etc.The result of using Fekkai Essential Shea Shampoo prior to the conditioner was nice , tangle free hair. I felt I could forgo the wash out conditioner ( described as such because there is leave in conditioner as well) and not miss it however manufactures always try and sell us on both products so I used both to get the full affect. I leave the conditioner in my hair for 5 minutes before washing it out.The collection also has a leave in conditioner called Shea Pot De Creme ( misspelled it seems on Amazon as Shea Pot De Crme)which I apply after washing my hair. I have also left this off to determine if I felt it made any difference and I do see a slight difference with my hair between using the Shea Pot De Creme and not using it after using the Fekkai Essential Shea Shampoo and Conditioner.I then used the Fekkai Essential Shea Shampoo without it’s conditioner but also with the Shea Pot De Creme as a conditioner and the results were the same so for me if I continue using this line I won’t waste the money on the wash out conditioner but instead continue using the Shea Pot De Creme.Use of Fekkai Essential Shea Shampoo, conditioner with the Shea Pot De Creme my hair was much less frizzy and it wasn’t so “fluffy” which I experience with shampoos which strip your hair. My hair was still slightly frizzy but less so and I have waves but I have little fly away hair and not completely smooth waves which I would love to have so my conclusion is if you have frizz you will want to use the Shea Pot De CremeSo for frizz it’s a good start but not an entire solution. I also live in Austin, TX where it’s very high in humidity. This maybe great for someone who doesn’t live in the same conditions I do.Other aspects I like about the products are my hair is left soft, it’s not fluffy but there is still a good amount of bounce in it and there is wave definition ( despite the fly aways ) and my hair dries untangled. As I said before the shampoo also didn’t leave my hair feeling “squeaky clean” because squeaky clean hair is a sign of hair which has had it’s natural oils stripped. It does do a great job of cleaning products out of your hair as well. The first time I tried it my hair had gross amount of hair gel , hair spray and mousse as I was trying to re-create a look and failing miserably at it. My hair was nice and stiff and unmoving by the time I gave up. I decided that this would be a great time to try out the shampoo. I could feel the shampoo take out the product from my hair. If you have ever been in my situation before it feels a bit slimy. Gross I know!I also enjoy the smell of the products where I’m pretty sensitive to the smell of perfumes. Most make me gag. The scent is strong in my opinion but to me this scent is best described as “fresh” and it leaves your hair softly scented after your hair is dry.So ladies and gentlemen my verdict for the shampoo is I probably will keep using it. I mean it’s a great start to frizz control even if it’s not the complete solution. I’ll be updating the review as I continue to use it if I find anything else I can add. If you have questions feel free to comment I’ll try and answer.Thank you!Summarizing everything here is the Good vs Bad for the shampoo.GOOD:
• Hair isn’t left “Squeaky Clean”.
• Hair doesn’t tangle in shower.
• Scent is perfumed but not over whelming.
• I didn’t feel the need to use the wash out conditioner
• Hair is soft.BAD:
• For my hair I still had some fly away – frizz.
Top Quality + Extended Manageability!
Fekkai Essential Shea Shampoois perhaps the priciest shampoo I have ever tried. I had high expectations and quite honestly I was not let down in the slightest. Let me tell you why.First of all, as expected, a little goes a long way. It is a smallish size and wouldn’t be worth the cost if it wasn’t highly concentrated. It is.Second, it thoroughly cleans both my hair and scalp. There is no doubt that this shampoo does a superior job. None.Third, it rinses out clean and leaves no discernible residue. (other than a pleasant scent) ** while the scent is a bit much out of the bottle, once rinsed out it is light. While all these points combine to make an excellent product, there is one more extraordinary thing I have noticed after using Fekkai Essential Shea and simply put, this shampoo leaves my hair more manageable for much longer than ANY other product I have tried in recent years. The extra control and just plain feeling of “clean” lasts at least 2 days for me. I have oily skin and hair and this benefit is simply amazing to me.The old axiom ‘You get what you pay for’ really comes into play with this shampoo.Yep, it is pricey, but it is also a superior product.Totally recommended by ME, Marty G
Very nice fragrance, seems to revitalize my perm
I like the fragrance of this shampoo. It’s not too flowery and not too ‘masculine.’ When I shampoo, the scent makes the whole shower smell nice, but does not leave a smell on my hair. I’ve tried those tablets that you put into the shower and they dissolve to release a scent but I am disappointed in them. This shampoo scents the shower much better. It must clean hair very well because after the shampoo, my old perm seems to revitalize a bit, my hair seems to have more wave in it. My previous shampoo did not have this effect. However, I believe this shampoo might take some of the color out, or maybe the color was coming to the end of its effectiveness anyway. This is the reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, but it may not be completely fair.My hair did come out really shiny, but that is likely to be the conditioner (not Fekkai brand) binding better to really clean hair, not the shampoo.
I was not really thrilled with this product. Compared to the shampoo I’ve been using (Nick Chavez Advanced Volume Shampoo), this product did not provide as much body or shine as that one, and I disliked the scent. I have used several Frederic Fekkai products in the past that I liked, but this was not one of them. As a shampoo, it is okay. It does leave your hair clean and does not strip it, but really, a lot of shampoos do that. I expected more from Fekkai.
I Like It!
This shampoo has a nice smell, albeit a little too strong for me, but lathers very well and leaves my hair feeling clean, soft, and with great body. The price is a little steep, but if this shampoo keeps performing this well down the road, then it will be worth the purchase price. I would recommend.
Great for dry sun damaged hair!
Great for really dry brittle sun bleached hair. This product line is exceptional and I equally love the shea and the glossing shampoo. When I need a little extra moisture I use the shea shampoo and conditioner. My hair just smells and feels so great after using this product. May cost more then others out there and I do have cheaper products I alternate with but this is my favorite line and worth the extra cost. Give it a try, it’s quite concentrated so it does go far. Love this!
Leaves Hair Soft, Manageable, and Smelling Great
I’ve been using Fekkai hair products for about a decade and this is one of the company’s best shampoos. If you’re looking for a shampoo that’s excellent at conditioning then this is a great choice. For many people, Fekkai Shea Shampoo moisturizes enough that a separate conditioner isn’t needed. Of course for maximum softness and manageability, a standalone conditioner should be used. Most days, this shampoo is more than enough. It leaves hair very soft and manageable, imparting a pleasant floral smell.Price will be a concern for people that are used to shampoos from the grocery or supermarket. Yes, this is a relatively expensive shampoo, but I think that many people will find the price worth it. It’s great for an everyday shampoo and especially excellent for when you’re in a rush and don’t have time for conditioning.
Fragrant … too fragrant. Read on.
My first sniff of this bottle, and I recognized the product as very fragrant. Now, I like fragrance, I really do, and I consider myself a bit of a fragrance snob. So I feel qualified to comment on the fragrance. The product’s fragrance struck me as high quality but as too floral for many people, especially guys and anyone who doesn’t want to smell like a flower. In the shower, it actually smells first as citrus, a nice brisk citrus. However, in the hair it the scent settles down to a floral. The fragrance is actually pretty high quality, which the fragrance snob in me appreciates. However, since I’m not keen on florals, I wasn’t initially keen on this. I was even less keen on it when I realized my hair was attracting yellow jacket wasps.A fragrance in a product that attracts flying insects? Yes. Although synthetic, the fragrance is so good that it attracts insects. Now, that’s a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing — it’s a high quality scent. The bad thing — you will find flying insects near you and in your hair in the summer.I’ve used this product twice. On the first time, I noticed yellow jackets hovering near me when I was outside. On the second time, I combed my fingers through my hair and I was stung. I was able to react quickly and minimize the pain & inflammation, but I was stung because there was a wasp in my hair. First time ever that has happened to me, and the only thing different … this product. So, you’re probably thinking, that was a fluke. And, it may have been. I don’t like the floral scent, so let me deduct 1 star for that and nothing for the wasp sting. Now on to product performance …I tried the Shea Shampoo and Conditioner in combination. The shampoo is rich and lathers nicely. The conditioner is thick and indulgent. I would say that my hair felt softer to the touch after use. However, in the depth of summer I really need something to quell the frizzies, and this product surprisingly did not do that for me. So, I’ll deduct another star.Overall, this is a heavily fragranced product that would work best for hair that needs to be softened. However, don’t expect it to repel insects or tame frizz.
I’m a huge Fekkai fan
I’m a "senior" male. I still have a full head of hair, gray, and tending towards dry. Length is rather longish for a male. Frequent helmetless motorcycle riding sometimes leaves it very tangled and generally distressed. I spend very little time or effort worrying about my hair, but I do recognize a good, or bad, hair care product when I come across it. My life experience with shampoos is that they all promise the moon, but more often than not perform just ok (or sometimes not ok). However, I’ve found the whole Fekkai line of hair products to be a true exception and it’s the only brand that I will go out of my way to specifically seek out and order online. This was my first experience with Fekkai Essential Shea Shampoo. The scent is not the usual heavenly Fekkai herbal fragrance that I love. This one is more subdued and has a slight citrus influence (in my opinion). It’s ok, but was a bit of a disappointment for me, as I really do enjoy traditional Fekkai herbal scent. As far as performance . . . no disappointments here. Lather is thick and rich. As this was my first use of this particular product, I intentionally skipped using a conditioner after shampooing, in order to really gauge only the shampoo. Results were outstanding. With no conditioner, and just towel drying, my hair dried soft, silky, and tangle free.Excellent. I would (and will) buy this stuff in the future.
