- Dr. Woods
My husband and I use Dudu Osun’s black soap on a daily basis and thought this would be comparable and easier to use; but, we were wrong it is super watery. It takes about 20% of the bottle per person per shower.
Worked wonders for my dermatitis
I have been buying natural castille soap from another site for several years and bought the black soap by accident thinking it was the same product. Boy, am I glad I did. During the winter I am plagued by dermatitis that develops into a rash and itches insanely (so I cannot sleep and scratch to the point of bleeding), especially on my torso. No lotion has ever offered more than temporary relief. The only treatment I’ve found that worked consistently is short visits to a tanning bed (the dermatitis is a form of eczema which responds to UV rays). This winter (it’s already January) it’s just the black soap and a bottle of lotion and no harmful UV rays to keep my sanity. In fact, instead of dreading the drying effects of the soap, I’ve found that my skin responds positively to an extra shower instead. My husband also likes it and we’re going to stick with this brand going forward.
Dr. Woods is a great economic alternative to Dr. Bonner’s and quite frankly, I like it. It cleanses my skin without any harsh chemicals or overdrying. It’s safe for my entire family’s sensitive skin, face, etc.
Oh that Smell
I wear makeup every day so finding a safe cleanser to get it off with is always what I’m after. Read a lot about the black soap so I decided to give it a try. I read that a lot of people use it for their acne, but I don’t have acne or oily skin, it’s dry to normal, so I was a little leery about using it. I’m just looking for a really good natural cleanser to remove my makeup effectively. So as far as cleaning my face goes, it effectively removed all my makeup. It also left my face squeaky clean. Never had that happen before. But I question whether that is too drying or not. Well I can’t say if that would have totally dried out my face because shortly after washing I put on a thin layer of coconut oil and then my moisturizer. (Night time regime) Now the part I’m having a hard time with is the smell. Oh my, at first it reminded me of a men’s cologne and I thought, “well, that’s not so horrible” but then it just became sickening to me. The smell does eventually go away. If it weren’t for the smell I would have given it five stars because it very effectively cleaned my face.**** Now this is an update to my review. I am still using the black soap cleanser and I don’t even notice the smell anymore. I really am liking the black soap cleanser. I’m very happy with it.
Favorite for shampoo
This is great soap for any kind of hair. I have even used it on African american hair and it did no damage at all. My hair turns out every time. I just have to use a very small amount and my hair comes clean and manageable. I even noticed that my hair grew a lot faster and stays clean all day.
Overall improvement in skin eveness
I am on my second bottle of this stuff and I have to say overall I am noticing an improvement in my skin tone. I am using this soap with Bio oil so I have noticed lightening of old scars ( nothing super dramatic but I noticed). I have had signicantly less back acne compared to before using this product.I have a lot of skin issues and break out constantly but since using this product I have not have many break outs on my body and none on my arms and legs ( which were my serious problem areas).I do not use this on my face as I felt it was a little harsh on it. My face always felt super dry. I do not use this on my hair as I am African American with really curly hair and the consistency and smell of this product makes me weary of putting it on my head. Seems like it would leave you with a stripped feeling.I am not a fan of the smell ( like wood) so I mix this with st ives oatmeal and shea body wash. I find it makes the smell less harsh and gives me a solid lather ( this product does not lather well on its own). I am going to continue using this product. The shipping both times was great. I got the product before estimated delivery date, packaged well with no problems.
Lavender maybe too strong for sensitive types….
My product reviews are normally based on my "sensitivity" to the chemicals. Advocate of healthy lifestyle and my shopping behavior at Amazon reflects this. This is a first with Dr. Woods. The lavender maybe too strong, stings when lathering, will wait a few weeks to see if skin dries. It doesn’t smell too strong, just feels not as soft as other organic soaps I have used. Quantity is good for price.
Great for Acne
I love this natural product to help clear my acne. If you have teen or adult acne I would suggest giving this product a chance. It lasts a long time for a great price.
This is a very good product. I use it on My face and in the shower. Deep cleans and softens.
Lovely soap for the whole family.
I use this to wash my face, my hair, my dogs and all-over on my scrubby puff. Some people don’t like the smell, but I find it fine. It is not too runny and not too thick. It is very moisturizing and leaves my skin clean and soft. The dogs smell great after and this is so much cheaper than dog shampoo and is probably much kinder to their skin. I have been through quite a few bottles of this stuff. I got a pump at Sally’s to add to it because it is a really big bottle. Great value for money.
Great from head to toe!
I have been using black soap for more than 10 years and can attest to how much better my skin looks and feels. It keeps my hair squeeky clean, my face blemish free and the rest of me clean. I have a wheat allergy so I break out at the sight of a hamburger bun. If I use this soap, it keeps my rashes from being so dry and itchy.
I love this product it is worth buying. One of the amazing thing is it is 32 oz so it last for a very long time unlike other soap products.
