Gets You Clean, Leaves Your Shower Stall Dirty
I bought this Dr. Bronner’s Shikakai soap because I have very sensitive skin and was looking for a shower gel that was even more “organic” and natural than the Alba shower gel that I have been using for years. I was also hoping that this soap would leave my skin very moisturized and that it would also have a wonderful lavender scent. On the plus side, the soap doesn’t irritate my skin. This is a big plus, because most soaps do. Also, it doesn’t dry out my skin too much, although it doesn’t seem to moisturize it either. On the minus side, this soap doesn’t smell much like lavender. In fact, it doesn’t have much of a scent at all. However, the biggest reason that I’m not a fan of this soap is that it is a very dark brown color, and leaves very unappealing dark brown streaks and drips wherever it touches the shower stall. It also temporarily colors wash cloths dark brown. The staining is very easily cleaned, but is also much grosser looking than normal soap scum.Update:The other thing about this soap is that it seems that it can cause yeast infections. After I used it for a few weeks, I got a large persistent itchy rash. My doc said that it was a yeast infection on my skin. Hmmm. I stopped using the soap and within three days, the rash had subsided. It had been there for weeks.I’m going to stay away from this product in both bar and liquid form.
Too filmy and light
This product may be just what the doctor ordered for some people, but I come from a mainstream soap consumer market, and here is what I don’t like about this stuff compared to my store brand.1. Has a residue that is sticky and weird if you don’t wash it off thoroughly. Several times I’ve washed my hands using this, and later felt the stickiness on my palms because I didn’t hit that spot hard enough with the water.2. This stuff doesn’t lather up like bigger brands do. I know this may not mean anything, but the lather matters to me now, whether it’s in my head or not, if only because I can see where I’m cleaning. It also doesn’t seem to cut through grime like my regular stuff does.3. Don’t like the smell. Doesn’t smell natural, or botanical, just smells weird and medicine-like.I’m sure the is a great natural option for some people, it just didn’t do anything for me. I went back to old spice in the shower and dial at the sink.
I purchased the tea tree scent directly from Dr. Bronner’s website, and loved it so much I had to talk about it! I have tried a ton of organic lotions and body washes, this is my absolute favorite body wash of all time, although I also use the Dr Bronner’s bar soap as well. I have light, sensitive skin prone to breakouts. I work out a lot, so I also break out along with it, on my chest, face and back. I ordered this version on a whim, I really don’t care for tea tree smell, at all. But for these results, I could tolerate anything.I have a prescription cream to use on my breakouts, but it takes them days to heal, and peels, burns and bleaches the clothing it touches. I have taken antibiotics, and those didn’t do any good at all. Anytime I heat up, I break out. Lovely. So, I tried the tea tree soap instead, ONE TIME, with my Clarisonic, and the next morning my breakouts were smaller, and many were almost gone. So today, I used it on my face, (which turns red with just about anything). My skin looks fantastic, and with no irritation. The blackheads on either side of my nose are gone. I have been trying to rid myself of those for a week, and it took one use of the tea tree soap! I know it sounds too good to be true, but this company is the real deal. As I said, if you can just tolerate the tea tree smell, this body wash pays off big time! Tea tree oil has been used forever for it’s antibacterial properties. You can make an awesome foaming handsoap out of this; just save an old foaming handsoap container, fill it with 3/4 cup distilled water and 1/4 cup of any of the Dr. Bronner’s castile soaps (the hemp almond is my favorite to use for handsoaps). I used to use triclosan soaps, but quit when I read about it’s toxicity. My hands were always dry and my nails peeling. People, you really need to rid yourself of as many chemicals as you can, it makes a huge difference in the way you feel. Sorry! Off the soapbox, and back to the review…This is such a fantastic company. They present themselves as a family more than a company, and really do fill their products with organic and fair trade ingredients. If you study them a bit more, they also give a ton of their profits away, and treat their employees like family. (I wish I lived in California so I could go beg for a job there!)
Great Quality Soap
Although this soap is ‘unscented’ there is a slight smell to the product. However, it does what a soap should do; it cleans the skin well and leaves no residue or an overly dried out texture to the skin. The value is very good; you do not have to use a lot of product to work up a decent lather. I use this as my hand soap, and it works very well. This is a great product to switch to if you’re interested in moving away from bars of soap to something liquid in a bottle. The bottle and pump are very good quality.
Dr Bronner’s Lavender hand wash soap
Right away I noticed the soothing texture of this product on my hands. This organic product is gentle on my skin. Additionally, each pump from the dispenser releases an aroma of lavender which is an added bonus.Downside: It appears to leave some type of oily film in the sink. This product is alcohol-free, paraben-free, ethylene glycol, and propylene glycol-free.Made in USA
There are no better products than Dr. Bronner’s !
I use Dr. Bronner’s Castile soap (almond is my favorite) for just about everything. It will gently clean vases, glasses, cups, laundry, carpet, etc. I even use it to clean the interior of my Louis Vuitton handbag! I buy it by the bottles whenever it is on sale. Also, I LOVE this hand soap. The spearmint/peppermint is my favorite. I recommend it to everyone! Also, the peppermint body lotion is to die for !!
I love Dr. Bronner’s products
I love most of Dr. Bronner’s products that I have used over a period of years. I really like the lemongrass fragrance and the way it softens my skin. I also like the ingredients as it is not filled with lots of unhealthy items I can’t begin to pronounce. I use it when I bathe at night and by morning the scent is gone so that I can use my regular spray cologne or cream. I have the hand soap in this fragrance as well. It is a scent that men won’t object it if they use the soap on their hands.
Dr. Bronners tea tree soap rocks!
I love this tea tree soap! I am a nurse and I have to use something antimicrobial or I break out terribly. I also have very sensitive skin. I have had no skin reactions to this product, it has stopped my breakouts and I feel super clean after using. I will never use anything else again after using this. In a pinch, I brushed my teeth with it as well and it worked awesome. I highly recommend!
I use Dr. Bronners products all the time. I’m trying my best to stay away from products with harmful chemicals and Dr. Bronners fits that bill for me. Not only does it not have the harmful chemicals but it also smells good and I don’t have to think about if I’m using the wrong product for my body. I do recommend Dr. Bronners to all my friends.
Perfect, this does not dry my skin out.
Okay let me say i have been trying various Organic body washes, This is a very nice body wash i love the smell of it, It is a VERY natural smell NOT perfumy. It has a nice medium strong scent of lime then you smell the sweet lemongrass and as you smell them together it is a very invigorating smell. I personal like this body wash because it is Organic and has Organic oils. It has NO harmful ingredients that you find in store brands. This does not dry out my skin like other reviewers have stated OF COURSE i always use moisturizer after i get out of the shower. I have been doing research lately and have found that 60some odd ingredients in store brand soaps are harmful to your skin and overtime can cause premature aging and also other disturbing issues. So i made the switch to Organic food and Organic topical care and Organic Oral care. It feels great knowing that my body wash is NOT contributing to the deterioration of my skin.
I love all things Dr. Bronner and this product is no exception! It lathers very well, leaves your skin soft and silky and has a wonderful minty scent that really wakes me up in the morning. If you’re hesitant to try this mint scent – throw caution aside and give it a try, I’m not a mint kind of girl, and I’m hooked on this refreshing fragrance!
Sensitive Skin Saver
I have very sensitive skin, so I have to be very careful about the products I use. This soap does not irritate my skin, and it is perfect that it is organic.
I use this soap at the bathroom sink and the ingredients seem to be very good and it lasts quite a while, as well.
My Skin Feels Wonderful
I saw this in my mother’s bathroom & was curious about it so I decided to try it for myself. OMG my skin loves this! What a clean, fresh feeling it gives. I will definitely be getting the gallon when this is out.
Allergic to it
I have very sensitive skin and many allergies. I was searching on Amazon for some soap without perfumes or dyes and came across this. I was looking forward to trying it.I get dandruff easily but I have very thick, curly, out of control hair and I read that this might work for it. I had yet to find a product that could manage both. It did not make my dandruff worse but my hair was so dry and tangled after using this that I didn’t use it on my hair again.I decided to use it as hand soap only. I started getting awful rashes and eczema all over the palms and backs of my hands. I’d never had eczema on my hands that bad before. I wasn’t sure what was going on. I used it a few more times to make sure that this was the cause. Apparently, I’m allergic to this. 🙁 So I had to throw the rest away.It does have a scent. I imagine it’s just the natural shikakai scent. It’s mildly sweet but also a bit like mud. The scent was unique. I wouldn’t say that I seek out to have things in this scent, but it wasn’t unpleasant either. Had the soap worked for me, I would have been fine with the scent and the dark brown color.
