Works for some types of dandruff, not others
Three different members of my family tried this shampoo, and all three of us had different results. I don’t really have a dandruff problem, but sometimes I use whatever shampoo I find in the shower. This shampoo made my color treated hair feel very dry and coarse, even while I was still in the shower. The scent was pretty strong, but I didn’t notice the smell lingering after I dried and styled my hair. I would give this shampoo three stars….I think it would be fine for my hair, but only if I had additional conditioner. My husband has very short, thinning hair and he has always used head and shoulders to control his mild dandruff. After three days of use, my husband refuses to use this shampoo anymore. He hasn’t really noticed anymore dandruff on his head, but his goatee has began to flake up horribly (he uses his shampoo on his goatee as well as his head hair) The skin on his chin has become very dry, irritated, and flaky. In addition, he didn’t like the smell of shampoo. He gave this shampoo one star, simply because zero stars was not an option. My teenage son has thick, curly hair and mild dandruff. He used this shampoo daily for a week, and has had no complaints. He also uses Dove for Men body wash and face wash, so he is more accustomed to the scent. He rated this shampoo four stars, because he likes it, but “doesn’t feel like the word ‘love’ should apply to any kind of shampoo.”In conclusion, I gave this shampoo three stars, because although my son really liked it, and found it satisfactory, my husband absolutely hated it. Personally, I was in the middle, because while it wasn’t my favorite shampoo, it would work in a pinch, which garnered it a three star review.
OK. Shampoo is Anti-Dandruff, But Fragrance Not A Hit With the Teenager.
The main difference between the Dove+ Anti Dandruff Fortifying shampoo & the Dove+ Fortifying Shampoo is the addition of the anti-dandruff ingredient, Pyrithione Zinc (1.0%) in the anti-dandruff shampoo. This is a standard ingredient/strength added to dandruff shampoos. There are a few differences in inactive ingredients, but not a significant amount:Fortifying Only: contains Glycol Distearate, Tetrasodium EDTA, & Calcium Glycerophosphate while the anti-dandruff shampoo does not.Anti-Dandruff Only: contains Dimethiconol, TEA-Dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Butylene Glycol, & Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, while the fortifying shampoo does not. Both shampoos lathered well & rinsed out easily. Male household members were not impressed with the so-called fortifying ability claims of either shampoo (they really saw no difference). The male teenager did not like the fragrance and declared it an “old man’s” shampoo. The “old man” thought it was ok, but he isn’t picky. However, “old man” did say that he saw no difference in the “fortifying” ability of the two shampoos as compared to any other regular shampoo (he generally uses a Suave formula). So, shampoo is fine. Not for teenagers because of the fragrance. Good for anti-dandruff.
Dove Men’s Plus Care Shampoo Anti Dandruff
I have “Dove Men’s Plus Care Shampoo Anti Dandruff” a few times and the product seems to work good. Some positive things:1. You do not need to use much at all – the shampoo lathers very well.2. Good scent – found the minty scent to be invigorating.3. Makes your hair manageable and easy to blow dry – did not have any problems with tangling, static electricity, etc. when drying. While I do not have major dandruff problems, the problem does happen occasionally and the shampoo appears to address the problem satisfactorily. So far, so good.Recommended.
It doesn’t smell good
All the Dove haircare smells the same. I don’t like the smell at all. I think it smells like old men. I like clean scents or something woodsy. My husband likes the smell okay, but it’s not his favorite either. Our house is super dry & his scalp gets a bit dry as well during the winter and this didn’t stop the mild flaking.
Nice Smelling and Effective!!
My son has horrible dandruff and I have been purchasing different types of medicated shampoo for him to use and he seems to still have dry scalp and dandruff, but the reason that my son’s dandruff was not going away was because he wasn’t using the shampoos that I purchased. The terrible tar smell that the other dandruff shampoos had deterred my son from using them, so when I got the Dove’s Men Anti Fortifying Shampoo I could tell the difference in his scalp and I also knew that he was finally using the anti-dandruff shampoo. The smell is nice and it doesn’t have the smell that most anti-dandruff shampoos have and that is perfect for my son, finally a dandruff shampoo that he loves.
Gets the job done, nothing to get excited about
On all fronts, Dove Men+ Care is a fairly vanilla shampoo. It deals with dandruff relatively well. Its scent is kind of middle of the road, not exhilarating – but not offensive. It seems to lather up pretty well, and provide good coverage to get hair clean. Amazon’s price is reasonable for a bottle this size, and if you can get free shipping – so much the better !
Dove Men Anti-Dandruff Fortifying Shampoo
I could bask all day in the scent.Dove Men Anti-Dandruff Fortifying Shampoo does its job wonderfully. It does what it is supposed to do.And the smell is so awesome. You couldn’t ask for a better shampoo.Highly recommended.
Dove for Men, refreshing scent and works well
Gone are the days when dandruff meant you were limited to shampoos in blue bottles with commercials that talk about a tingling scalp that tells you that it’s working. Now instead of having embarrassingly obvious dandruff shampoo on your shower shelf, there’s options for a more traditional cleansing shampoo in more subtle looking bottles, that work just as well. Instead of having to chose between a shampoo that helps prevent dandruff and a shampoo that cleans well and smells great, with this Dove Men’s Shampoo you can have both. The fresh scent and grey bottle design appeal to both my son and husband. It’s design is very guy targeted, so there’s no mistaking it for the brightly colored fruit/floral scented products we women often prefer. Because of this, I’ve found it’s easier to get the guys to try it out and use it. They’ve both had good results with how it cleaned their hair, and they feel that it works well for the prevention of dandruff. Once my son tried the shampoo for dandruff in the “blue bottles” and he left it on his hands too long, giving them a blue hue that took some time to scrub off. With this Dove anti-dandruff shampoo, that’s never been a problem. So using this they get the same great results, with a better scent and less chance of blue tinted hands!
The Men Like It
My sons tried this product and really liked it for a dandruff shampoo. It lathered well, smelled good and kept the dandruff at bay. They were both tired of using Head and Shoulders and prefer the Axe brand.(Probably prefer it because they’re young and think that’s the brand to have) but this one was a winner too. Recommended.
Dove Anti Dandruff Shampoo
Dove Men+Care is my husbands favorite line of products to use. We’re couponers, so every time we find coupons for Dove Men+Care, we snatch them up. As a female, I love the smells of these products. We both like that they smell manly(almost cologne like) without being overbearing. For me, I’m sensitive to smells, so that’s an extra special bonus. We highly recommend this whole line of products, especially the 2 n 1 and 3 n 1 products, because those save time and space without sacrificing its effectiveness. That’s the only negative to this particular shampoo. My husband does wish the conditioner was added in.
Best I Have Used
Dove’s Fortifying anti dandruff shampoo is one of the best dandruff shampoos I have used. It leaves your hair smooth and silky while also eliminating the scalp itch; unlike other dandruff shampoos can leave your hair feeling brittle and dry. The smell is quite pleasant and does not leave your hair smelling perfumy.
This is my favorite dandruff shampoo. It does what a dandruff shampoo should do in the way of taking care of this unsightly white spots in your hair and, as a bonus, it has a very pleasing smell to it. Win win. I recommend it highly.
An Improvement on my Usual Shampoo
I have been using Head and Shoulders for years, occasionally switching to Tgel or Selson Blue, to switch out the pyrithione zinc for other active ingredients from time to time. When I got a chance to get a reviewer bottle of this shampoo I was pretty happy. And I have been even happier since I’ve been using it for a little while.I have no idea what the Caffeine does for my hair, but I do need the pyrithione zinc. But whatever else goes into this shampoo has left my hair softer and lighter feeling than H&S; ever has. The smell is pleasant although I can no longer after my hair is dry. This is more than I can say for TGel which is not my favorite smell. and it seems to stick with me all day.I was hoping to find a cheaper dandruff shampoo and this is not cheaper, but it is close to the price of other anti dandruff shampoos, however none of the others has left my hair feeling this good. After about a week of using this, I can say that I would recommend it. For now, this is going to be on my shopping list.
Worth more than the cost!
Both my husband and our teenage son have been dealing with dandruff for years now. We’ve tried many different dandruff shampoos and find this one to work better than the most expensive brands we’ve tried. Not only does it work by taking away the itchy scalp feeling, it leaves their hair nice and shiny. All while smelling divine, too! In short, why pay more when you can get the best at this price? I highly recommend this shampoo to all men!
Strong manly scent
This shampoo comes out as a thick white cream, lathers well and does a good job controlling dandruff. Both men in my house agree to this. I used this, too. But I also noticed the strong “manly” scent, the scent of cologne that I could smell all day long in my hair. It’s not a bad smell, but one that resembles a strong, musky scent and is often associated with masculine scents. For men who don’t mind, this product works well, but for men who prefer a more neutral smell, the strong aroma of this otherwise good shampoo may be a turn-off.
effective anti dandruff properties
One of my sons is always struggling with dandruff. He usually uses Head and Shoulders and that does a fairly well job of keeping it in control. My son tried this anti dandruff shampoo for a while and felt it did a good job of keeping the dandruff under control. He liked the scent of this shampoo better than the Head and Shoulders.
Does Control Dandruff – Recommended
This Dove Anti-Dandruff shampoo works every bit as well as the “Head and Shoulders” (or generic) dandruff shampoo that I normally use, but smells much better. This handles my fairly long but quick to become oily hair quite well and I even use it on my beard, all with great results.Recommended!CFH
Nice scent and lather, but left my scalp dry
I usually use the generic store brands when it comes to dandruff shampoos since I’m not a regular user (once a week or so is effective, with regular shampoo used the rest of the time). On the plus side, this has a much nicer scent than the generics – more like shampoo and less medicinal-smelling. The lather production was also quite good, which is not all that common in a dandruff shampoo. However, it left me with a bit of a dry scape itch after a few uses. That could be due to the fact that I used it a couple of days in a row rather than just occasionally. Still, it was annoying enough to drop it a star in the rating. Worth a look, but you may want to try a single bottle before stocking up.
It stands to reason that any dandruff shampoo that works is probably going to have zinc pyrithone as an active ingredient, but I have no idea what caffeine is supposed to do in a dandruff shampoo. My husband has been using Head and Shoulders for years if not for a decade or more. H&S; does a decent job but is rough on the hair and doesn’t have a nice smell. Dove does a good job, but seems to be kinder on the hair. My husband said it is easier to comb and it definitely has a nicer scent. I agree with him. His hair seems thicker yet more manageable.I have to recommend this as a good dandruff shampoo, but I still don’t get the caffeine.
If you need a dandruff shampoo I would recommend this over any of the others. it works much better than the other brands I have used.
Doesn’t work as well or smell as good as some others, wouldn’t be my first choice
I have constant itchy scalp and dandruff problems and have to use anti-dandruff shampoo and least half of the time. Most anti-dandruff shampoos have a very similar smell in my opinion with slight variances. Some anti-dandruff shampoos relieve the itch and dandruff problem very well and other not quite as well. This shampoo would fall into the not very well category for me. It’s not bad and it does provide some relief but it doesn’t smell as good and doesn’t work as good as some other types that I have used. In addition this shampoo is a little gooey and it builds up on the bottle. I have tried several other types of Dove Men+Care shampoos and I have liked them and this is the first one that I just wasn’t thrilled with.
Dove’s Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Was Just What I Needed For My Dry Scalp
As someone who has struggled with dry scalp for some time, I have to say that Dove’s anti-dandruff shampoo has been just what I need to see a difference. Not only has it helped me by reducing the amount of flakes I get but it moisturizes my scalp as well. For guys who have had a problem with flakes or an itchy, dry scalp then this is definitely something you can use and see results with.Dove products for men are new to me, but I will definitely be checking to see what other products they have that I can benefit from.
Dove for Men
I love Dove’s products. This has a great scent and a great lather like I expected from Dove. Nice to have the anti-dandruff formula, especially during winter months when flakes can become a problem.
Same ingredient as Head and Shoulder
I have been using H&S forever and this shampoo contains the same ingredient and amount. I ejoyed the smell of this shampoo over H&S, but results were both same. They helped keep my dandruff under control and can be used daily. I already use Dove Men Soap so this is a no brainer. I will purchase this in the future. I recommend it.
Better than CLEAR MEN SCALP THERAPY 2 in 1
I used to use other products including CLEAR MEN SCALP THERAPY 2 in 1 which I found not to work as well as this Dove product. It’s a smaller bottle I believe, but really It’s worth the price and I’m sure I can find one not as an add-on item next order.
My boys love this product, they said it really helps. Make sure you follow the instructions and realize this is not an every day type shampoo.
Excellent for the price.
I suffer from mild dandruff and dry scalp. I normally use “Head and Shoulders” which is a fine dandruff shampoo when itch or flakes appear. Dove Men+Care Anti Dandruff Fortifying Shampoo seems to be equally as good for me though, and costs less. The shampoo lathers nice and smells great. I definitely like the fragrance of the Dove Shampoo over the Head and Shoulders Shampoo. Since using it, I haven’t had any flakes or itching. My dandruff and dry scalp is mild though, so take that into consideration.Dove Men+Care Anti Dandruff Fortifying Shampoo works well for me, and I highly recommend it.
Inexpensive and Effective …
Dove products are known to be gentle but effective. I can say that the same applies to its line for men. I tried this new shampoo and here are some thoughts to guide you in the decision-making process:Product design:I ordered the body-wash, the 2 in 1, and this shampoo. I can say the collection looks aesthetically pleasing in one’s shower. Some products can appear garish (with clashing pops of color) but this line has a masculine sophistication. I suppose that if I could make one small suggestion, it would be to make the shampoo bottles open at the bottom. I like inverted bottles since it saves time when one approaches the end of the product.Functionality:This shampoo has a slight but appealing fragrance. It has a type of frothy lather as opposed to a thick lather. This turned out to be “a positive” since the lather washed thoroughly and rinsed super clean with very little effort. While I layered a conditioner over this product (there is no way I would get a comb through my hair otherwise), my boyfriend used the product alone. His hair smelled incredible, was glossy, and totally manageable. We both agreed that Dove made a product that just about anyone can use and love (not just men!)If you are seeking an inexpensive but effective shampoo, this is it!
Away with dandruff
Older age, less hair, dry skin, and annoying dandruff flakes on dark clothing. Ptui. I’ve had difficulty finding effective dandruff control in a shampoo that I actually like. This product comes the closest and actually works. Recommended for use one to two times per week, I do just that along with Dove Men+Care Sensitive Scalp Fortifying 2 in 1, which has tea tree extract instead of pyrithione zinc. Tea tree extract is supposed to work well for dandruff, but alone doesn’t do the job for me. Pyrithione zinc works nicely but then shouldn’t be used every day. So one bottle of each is a good addition to the shower for those with similar experiences in the hair department. This shampoo has a medicated-shampoo odor. It’s not particularly strong or offensive, and is not noticeable at all after the shower. The shampoo foams well and your hair will feel clean afterward. I noticed dandruff decreased within a week and was gone by week 2. Nice results. This particular shampoo does not include conditioning agents, though the tea tree containing variety does. I don’t notice any problems with the lack of conditioning and don’t use any other product after the anti-dandruff shampoo so as not to wash away the medication component. No problems there.Overall, a successful product which does precisely what it says it will do.
An interesting change of pace when it comes to dandruff shampoos
I have been using anti-dandruff shampoo since the days when all anti-dandruff shampoos smelled like tar. This product is a big improvement over those shampoos since it smells more like a nice aftershave than anything else. The price seems right with this shampoo – it is priced to compete with the store brands and the Suave products and it should be successful. Most importantly, it does a great job with the dandruff control. But, at the end of a long day my hair looks more greasy than it has normally.
