Despite the presence of two types of alcohol, this is a very gentle cleanser that works without soap. It can be used for various skin conditions (consult your doctor), but, as stated above, is also useful for those with seasonal allergies.Cetaphil is non-alkaline, has no fragrance, and does not block pores (“non-comedogenic). The label states that it’s excellent “for the delicate skin of babies” and that it “helps the skin retain moisture.” The product may be used either with or without water; instruction for each are on the label. When used without water, one is to “remove excess with a soft cloth, leaving a thin film of Cetaphil…the emollient quality will leave the skin soft and moist.” Two minor complaints: The label has no information about whether Cetaphil is tested on animals, and the company should offer a smaller size, both for portability and for those who want to sample the product.
Awesome cleanser for sensitive skin
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is the gentlest facial cleanser I have been able to find. I am highly allergic to several different soaps and preservatives, but Cetaphil doesn’t cause me to break out, itch, or dry up.I’d suggest the liquid Cetaphil cleanser instead of their soap bar, as bars can cause one to have clogged pours (read: blackheads). The only downside is that it won’t remove makeup very easily, so I only use it in the morning and use my trusty cold cream at night.
Doesn’t work for me, but maybe I’m just the anomaly
Wow, this cleanser has gotten so many positive reviews across many boards and forums. I have very sensitive skin and unfortunately, the very bad habit of being a facial skincare products junkie. I was hooked on using a cream cleanser by Estee Lauder but my pockets were going empty so I decided to try out the drugstore options. For my first forray, I decided, thanks to all teh glowing reviews, to try out Cetaphil. At the time, I was also experiencing mild acne, and yes, many reviewers also pointed out Cetaphil helped “cure” them of acne problems (though there’s no acne-fighting ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide in it). So I figured to give it a shot, and at $10 for a BIG bottle, I thought it was a good investment.Gave it a go that night. The stuff did not foam, which is ok with me, but what was not ok was the smell. I hesitated to rub it on my face, then took the plunge. Felt immediate stinging, which was a bit of a shock. Washed it off, still continued to feel the stinging so I went over my face more thoroughly with my washcloth. My skin felt really irritated, and I was preplexed since Cetaphil is supposed to be so mild and gentle. Alas, the next mornign I woke up with two fresh, new lovely pimples on my cheeks (which incidentally was where I first applied the cleanser). Wasn’t thinking and again washed with Cetaphil. The whole day, my coworkers kept asking if I was sick because my face was really red and flushed. That night I just washed with water, no soaps at all, and dabbed medication on my pimples.Guess what? My skin has improved since I stopped using Cetaphil. I am now using Purpose cleanser and my skin is ok. Just to check, I did try Cetaphil once again and woke up with a new pimple and flushed skin. So now that huge bottle of Cetaphil is just languishing away and taking up space in the medicine cabinet.I honestly do not know why it did not work for me. I’ve read rumors that Cetaphil contains SLS which is known to irritate some people’s skin. That could very well be my case, but I know I use shampoos with SLS and they havent bothered me (then again I do not rub shampoo on my face…). Guess I am the one dissenter who does not like Cetaphil.
i thought it would be amazing with all these reviews but it was just ok. it cleans really well but nothing amazing
I did my research a simple, effective cleanser and Cetaphil came up the most for acne prone skin. I do not have bad acne, but I do get breakouts once a month. I am a new convert to the Cetaphil brand. I use this nightly with an exfoliating sponge. Then I do a salycic toner wipe all over my face. Then put on the Cetaphil moisturizing cream. My skin has never looked better. When I wake up in the morning, I love the way my skin looks healthy, glowing and clear – even when I’ve had little sleep!
It’s my go-to
I have really sensitive skin so the dermatologist gave me a choice between the brands Aveeno, Vanicream, Cetaphil, Neutrogena. Since Neutrogena had already failed me, I decided to try Cetaphil and I love it!
A gentle whole body skin cleanser
This product is great! It works on the whole body, with or without water. Some hospitals and nursing homes use this on their patients and/or residents. It works on everyone from babies to seniors. It is completely fragrance free. It goes on smooth and silky. It is great for all types of skin problems, because it is so gentle and nonirritating. It softens and moisturizes as it cleans. So, I don’t even need to use a moisturizer on my face afterwards. I have roseacea and it actually feels good on my face.
I Finally Found The Right Product For My Skin
I have dry, sensitive skin and the facial cleansers I used in the past only made my skin more dry and irritated. I’ve been using Cetaphil for 2 years now and it works wonderfully on my skin. It leaves my face feeling soft and fresh. You can use it with or without water, but I always use it with water. Unless you’re using Cetaphil for your entire body, you don’t need to slather on too much of the product on your face. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, it would be nice if Cetaphil also came in a travel-size bottle.
For decades I used a plant-based cleanser only. When I tried products that cost money with AHAs and PHA, all they did was make my skin red.I’ve been to three dermatologists and all 3 recommended Cetaphil. I buy it at our local drugstore. I buy one for sensitive skin.It even removes your makeup if you put some on a dry cotton makeup remover pad, then pat your eye. Repeat. Takes the make up off. (I have not tried this yet with mascara, but it works for eyeshadow, eyebrows)My face is never dry with this. I used it for several months and was very satisfied. It makes my skin nice. I used to use half and half with a cotton ball soaked and used on my skin with a tiny drop of almond oil to cleanse my skin. This works just as well without the mess of the half and half.Have no hesitation buying this..its ridiculously low priced. It wont dry your face out. A few times a week, I add in a little natural gentle exfoliating with this around my nose and chin.If you’d have problems with retinol or AHA, try this.

gives me more acne
This product was delivered on time, however, it made me breakout more. I got more blemishes after using this stuff. It seems to have a greasy feel to it. I found aveeno "positively ageless" resurfacing scrub to work much better. It’s very mild gentle and smooth on the skin and smells very nice and did not make me breakout.
