Zinc + More, Much More…

I will not use this sunscreen but with that said it is unfair to misrepresent facts or not update a review when one knows otherwise. The top reviewer is claiming CONTAINS PARABENS. That is a pure lie and although she/he admits otherwise, she/he still does not change the heading of his/her review. That review is as misleading as this sunscreen mix just because it contains ZO. This mix does not contain parabens, contains ZO which is great but unfortunately the rest of the mix are non-organic unwanted ingredients.Active Ingredients; Titanium Dioxide5% , Zinc Oxide10%Inactive Ingredients; C12 15 Alkyl Benzoate , Caprylyl Glycol , Cetyl Dimethicone Copolymer , Chlorphenisen , Beeswax , Disodium EDTA , Ethylhexyl Palmitate , Ethylhexyl Stearate , Hexyl Laurate , Hydrogenated Castor Oil , Methyl Glucose Dioleate , Octododecyl Neopentanoate , PEG 25 Hydrogenated Castor Oil , Phenoxyethanol , Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate , Propanediol , Purified Water , Sorbitan Oleate , Stearic Acid , Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) , Trimethylated Silica/Dimethicone , VP Hexadecene CopolymerWhy add chemicals when the purpose of the sunscreen is to protect one from harm. To add salt to the injury, this a company where their CEO goes around Hawaii’s kindergartens in the name of educating kids about sunscreen while promoting Blue Lizard but yet Blue Lizard would not disclose ingredients of their sunscreens on their website at all. Someone in Hawaii’s government is surly enjoying the fruits of his/her work alright. I wonder why anyone in Hawaii has never addressed this issue…READ INGREDIENTS. THE HIGHER THE ZINC, THE MORE PROTECTION.Zinc Oxide is a physical sunscreen rather than a chemical one, blocks both UVA (320-400 nm) and UVB (280-320 nm) rays of ultraviolet light. Chemical sunscreens are less effective and carry unnecessary health risks. ZO is insoluble in water, used in many industries, in ointments, creams and lotions. Non-irritating, non-allergenic and non-comedogenic, used by athletes as a bandage to prevent soft tissue damage during workouts. ZO must be NON NANO / UNCOATED UPS -2 ZO which has a mean particle size greater than 30nm, when applied to the skin do not get absorbed into the body, do not enter the bloodstream, and are not a threat to human health.SPF is a measure of how much longer someone will be protected from UVB rays than someone wearing no cream. If the sun reddens unprotected skin in ten minutes, for example, a person wearing SPF15 can be exposed to the sun without reddening for 15 times longer – 150 minutes. While UVB rays are behind the redness of sunburn, UVA rays damage the skin’s DNA at a deeper layer. Both radiation types can cause skin cancer. The EU recommendation is for sunscreens to offer a UVA protection factor that is a third of their SPF.I make my own sunscreen as well as I purchase sunscreen for times when I do not have time to make any since I need to surf. For that reason, when I purchase a sunscreen mix, I need the same formula as I use when I make my own organic sunscreen mix since it only requires few ingredients but for more protection like my nose, I bump the zinc. Zinc is what you see surfers put on their nose for protection. The more zinc, the more protection but it means a mix that is more like a mud since zinc is a powder that I purchase and add to VCO.Blue Lizard Baby- SPF 30+- Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB Protection- Chemical-Free- Paraben-Free- Fragrance-Free- 10% Zinc Oxide; 5% Titanium DioxideBlue Lizard Face- SPF 30+- Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB Protection- Paraben-Free- Fragrance-Free- Oil-Free- 8% Zinc OxideBlue Lizard Sensitive- SPF 30+- Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB Protection- Chemical-Free- Paraben-Free- Fragrance-Free- 10% Zinc Oxide; 5% Titanium DioxideBlue Lizard Sport- SPF 30+- Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB Protection- Very Water Resistant- 6% Zinc OxideBlue Lizard Regular- SPF 30+- Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB Protection- Very Water Resistant- 6% Zinc OxideThere is a reason why sunscreen companies do not provide any images of the labeling since that will disclose the active and inactive ingredients. The inactive ingredients are extensive in Blue Lizard, check their Internet site but more importantly compare the cost of any sunscreen to better brands with hardly any ingredients except few organic and a very high amount of zinc like 18% zinc not 5% or 10% zinc. Blue Lizard’s ingredients vary so much from their Face mix to the Original mix to the Baby mix since they offer more additives, less zinc with noticeable price fluctuation. Cancer does not differentiate face skin or leg skin, it is all the same so why apply anything that has less protection to different part of the body. Ingredients get soaked in regardless of the skin location so compare ingredients since it is like consuming those ingredients when applied to the skin. A good organic 3oz 18% zinc mix should not cost more than $13 and for less when on sale. I get lots more when I make my own, much, much more and I get to control the zinc percentage in the mix as well.

Just like the “Sensitive Chem. Free” kind

I wanted a larger bottle of Blue Lizzard chemical free sunblock and this product seems to be the same as the squeeze tube 3 oz size labeled as “sensitive chemical free”.It goes on easily if your skin is actually dry, but not as quickly as chemically based sunblocks. After a few minutes, the oil base soaks into your skin like lotion and there is very little shine left. It doesn’t sting the eyes, and has no scent at all, and doesn’t cause any pore clogging/acne on my sensitive facial skin. Just be careful and reapply to areas that rub on clothing throughout the day.

Reliable sunscreen

I learned about Blue Lizard Sunscreen from the Environmental Working Group’s Guide to Sunscreen. This is one of the products they recommend because it’s less toxic. Many sunscreens rely on chemical sunblock which can disrupt your hormones and even cause cancer. This product uses physical sunblock (titanium dioxide & zinc oxide) to block the harmful rays of the sun. It’s a very thick white lotion that I like to use when I go to the beach. Although if you are planning on swimming you should look at the water resistant version. This lotion is a little harder to rub in but stays put and I have never once had a sunburn when I used this. Also it’s fragrance free and gentle on my skin since it’s formulated to be safe for Baby’s. I like it and can only recommend it.

FINALLY!

I picked this up on a recent Lightning Deal at a great price. I prefer spray bottles for the children because all you have to do is catch them by the collar and spray them all over. The problem is that normally you have to keep catching them every time they have been in the water, dry them off, and respray. I used to love the purple stuff because it let you know where you had managed to cover them. But this is even better than that because you don’t have to dry them off first. This has worked great in protecting small children from sunburns. I put it on them a couple of times during the afternoons but mostly out of paranoia. If it were only purple, I probably wouldn’t go through so much. 🙂

Gentle causes no breakouts

I have recently moved to Las Vegas from Chicago. As I have spent many years out of the sun, I am very careful about exposing my skin to the sun’s rays. I found this lotion to be very satisfactory in protecting my face. I have sensitive skin prone to breakouts. I was pleased this caused no skin problems. I use it every day before I venture outside for my dose of Vitamin D from the sun. It was not available in any store I tried. Fortunately Amazon had it available. I have not tried swimming with it as yet, but I reapply and also use a large hat if I was to sit by the pool. I also have purchased Aveeno for the body.

Great for Acne-Prone Skin

A good sunscreen is a must for every skin type. I have oily acneic skin, and I’m usually afraid when it comes to trying new stuff on my face, especially moisturizers, but my skin LOVED this stuff. It doesn’t leave my face with a white overcast like other sunscreens would. It feels light, not greasy. It has no noticeable scent. Gives my skin a perfect surface for applying makeup. This has never broken me out at all, and I apply it every morning after cleansing. It’s also great for the neck / decolletage area. Highly recommended!

Fallene Cotz Plus SPF 58 Water Resistant UVB/UVA Sunscreen for Sensitive Skin, 2.5-Ounce Tube

Fallene Cotz SPF 58 Water Resistant UVB/UVA Sunscreen is extra gentle, and dermatologist recommended for sensitive skin. No chemical sunscreen filters. Dries clear and PABA free. Contains only Titanium and Zinc, and has UVB/UVA protection. Water resistant and fragrance free. UVB is the cause of early skin redness experienced during initial sun exposure. UVA (320nm-400nm) is responsible for deeper skin damage, and many of the long term destructive changes that are harmful to the skin. Unfortunately there is no official rating system, to date, that measure’s a products’ UVA protection. UVA radiation, unlike UVB, is consistently the same all day long, all month long and all year long. UVA rays present almost the saM.D.amaging effects to the skin in December at 9am, as they do in July at 4 p.m. UVA radiation is consistently damaging, and in fact, enters deeper into the skin than UVB. Since UVA damage is cumulative and penetrates through glass, everyone requires daily, year round protection. Made in USA.

Key features

  • One 2.5-ounce tube of SPF58 sunscreen
  • Contains only titanium and zinc
  • Extra gentle; dermatologist recommended for sensitive skin

Daily, year round protection? Give me a break! Dracula would not need this.

Our doctor told us when our second child was born… to put him in the sun for a bit, with no sunscreen! He needed the sun for vitamin D!On the side of this box I am reading that I may get harmful rays through my window glass and need “Year round protection”. Year round protection from the sun? Do these people think I am an idiot? It’s comments like these that make me want to throw a product in the trash, no matter what it’s benefits. The people that make this, the marketing people, the company executives, they all signed off on that mumbo jumbo. They want me to be scared into putting this on my body year round. I can only imagine the effects of putting Zinc and titanium lotion on my skin all year long.If you have sensitive skin this is supposed to be good for you. Seriously though, if your skin is so sensitive that you will burn in the winter through window glass, get a hat, put on a shirt, pull down your blinds, and for gods sake be careful. I’m sure a bit of this will help too but the company should re-think the whole scare tactic approach. So I used the stuff on myself and my son. It works fine. It goes on looking like makeup coverup. It has very little smell to speak of. Sunscreen keeps me from getting burned. No big revelation. Most sunscreens with a SPF of 30 and above will do you fine as long as you re-apply as you go. Like I said earlier, we are all unique so we need to be our own best judge as to what works and what does not. This sunscreen seems good. I just got annoyed by the garbage info on the box. After all, what a product says and claims, in a market with a million choices, is all that distinguishes one product from another. This product is trying to scare you. Do not be afraid of the sun. As a matter of fact, go outside, get away from your computer and get some.*****It seems from the number of people who could care less for my review that no one cares what is printed on the side of a box. It seems no one cares what claims a product makes. I am also assuming everyone is diligently applying this lotion, like the box says, every day of the year.

Not for me

I’ve used a lot of sunscreens living here in south florida but this was about the strangest product I’ve ever tried. It comes out of the tube like light tan pancake make up and is thick like toothpaste. They claim it dries clear but it doesn’t. It leaves you looking like you either just rolled out of a coffin after a year of being locked inside or you are joining a band of street mimes. I mean really, this product makes your face look like you are dead not to mention the extremely heavy slimy feel that completely clogs your pores. Hard to believe anyone would put something so awful on the market. OK it’s SPF 58 but I would rather go out in long pants and long sleeves and wear a face mask then use this product. It also stains your clothes the same awful beige/tan color, nice! You can get a giant bottle of NO-AD that works just as well for a fraction of the price and no stains on your clothes or the look of death. Stay away!

Ugly effect!

IF you have extremely sensitive skin and can find NO OTHER sunscreen, you might want to try this product. It works. That being said, do not believe the claim that it dries clear. It is like a very light-colored foundation make-up and leaves you looking rather sickly. It also leaves your skin feeling greasy. I ALWAYS finish products and hate to throw things away, but after 2 applications, this tube went into the trash.

Can reach places that are hard to reach

I bought mist for quick and easy application. However, I found that this sunblock cannot be the only sunblock I use. It useful to spray on the areas I cannot easily reach with my hands, like the back. But I found it unpleasant to use on my face. I did not like the slightly greesy feel, the make-up does apply evenly on top of it. I did not like that I can accidentally get it in my eyes or breath in.In July 2011 Food and Drug administration stated that they are investigating the safety of sunblock mists, especially on use with kids, which can get sun block in their mouth or breath in while the sun block is being applied.I like:1) I can put sun block on the areas I cannot reach by handI don’t like:1) Spray can get into eyes, mouth, be inhaled2) I do not like that it has an odor , I prefer unscented products3) Slightly greasy feel and make-up does not apply evenly on top of itSo overall ‘ok’ rating for this sunblock . It has both positive and negative aspects.Ali Julia review

Awesome product for OOMPA LOOMPAS

If your complexion is more orange than a tangerine, or if you are trying to find makeup that will complement your “Snooki circa 2010” Halloween costume, then look no further- this product is perfect for you! I on the other hand ordered “ivory” expecting the makeup to be, well, ivory-toned. This product has me quoting Inigo Montoya from the Princess Bride- “You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.” Ivory is supposed to be creamy-colored. Examples of “ivory” exclude this product. Would NOT recommend.

This is the best tinted moisturizer I ever tried..

I never liked the idea of the tinted moisturizer but this one is just great , I read the great reviews and the price was tempting so I tried it and I am glad I did. This gives a very smooth light coverage , hides imperfections, has 15 spf it makes my skin look so velvety flawless. I got this primer in caramel shade was worried it would be too dark for me , well I guess I was quite lucky cause this is perfect . I am NC 30 and 35 in summer and this shade just makes my complexion glow , I just love it.. Thank you fusion and amazon for providing this ..Edit: After few weeks of using this , I would like to add that now I use it with only concealer to hide dark undereye circles and I need nothing else , I am no longer using a foundation and I will be stocking up on this cause it make my skin look so perfect I can’t believe it, I don’t quite understand why ?!! cause in the past when I used to wear light coverage foundations they never gave me the perfect result that this tinted moisturizer gives me !! amazing but I won’t complain I will just stock up. one last thing it didn’t break me out , which is also very rare with my acne prone complexion as I tried more products than i can remember which did.. so this is my HG primer, light covergae foundation, moisturizer , you name it , it is the product that i need night and day to look perfect , please don’t discontinue it. Protects, Mild Scent, Mostly Natural

I picked a tube of this up for $10.99 at our local market after reading on cosmeticdatabase that it’s one of the safest and most natural sunscreens on the market. It rated a 0, which is the safest rating. It comes out of the tube thick and a little gritty, as others have mentioned, but I had no problem getting it to properly absorb into my skin. It takes an additional five or ten seconds to rub it in thoroughly, which smooths out of the consistency and dramatically reduces the “white face” effect. I’m not sure what the big deal is with taking a few extra seconds to rub it in; other reviewers sound like they’re in a mighty hurry to rush out into the sun :)I’m giving this 4 stars instead of 5 because I’ve only been using it for awhile. So far I like it a lot. The scent is mild (way more mild than most sunblocks I’ve used) and isn’t medicinal at all on me, it doesn’t leave me with a white/pale face, and so far it seems to provide excellent coverage. It does contain trace amounts of dimethicone, which is explained on the Badger web site; this single additive is widely used and is considered safe. Overall, this is probably one of the very best and safest sunblocks on the market.Highly recommended, especially for those looking to reduce the number of industrial chemicals they’re applying to their skin.

Great but Greasy

I have long struggled to find the perfect sunscreen for my fair skin. After extensive and tiring research I thought I’d give Badger Sunscreen with SPF 30 a try and I’m so glad I did.Smell: The smell is very mild. It doesn’t smell like a typical sunscreen, which is a good thing for me. I work with kids and if I smell like sunscreen it is very distracting to them.Texture: This stuff is thick, almost like toothpaste. It is easy to squeeze out of the tube and goes on the skin smoothly.Application: You must work this sunscreen onto your skin otherwise you will be left with a ghostly, bluish hue. I put this on my daughter who is quite a bit darker than me and I had to make sure to rub it in completely. Come to think of it, this product might be best for those with light skin.Efficacy: This product works great! It is important to use a sunscreen that provides both UVA and UVB protection and Badger Sunscreen does just that. I walked my dog on a bright, sunny day for 2.5 hours and for the first time ever I did not burn. That’s enough evidence for me:)

Fallene Total Block UVA/UVB Complete Broad Spectrum Sun Protection, SPF 65 Clear, 2 fl Ounces

Dermatologist recommended. Non-comedogenic, oil-free. UVA – Same Everyday: UVA radiation, unlike UVB, is consistently the same all day long, all year long. UVA rays present the same damaging effects to the skin in December as they do in July. UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin than UVB, and are believed by many physicians to be more harmful, which is why patients with sun sensitivity require daily, year round complete protection. Total Block 65 has been specifically formulated for individuals who require full spectrum protection from the sun’s damaging effects. Total Block contains a complete cellular and photoprotective system. SPF – Not Enough: SPF is not an accurate determination of a sunscreen’s capability of protection from the sun’s harmful rays. It is only an indication of protection from one wavelength of light, UVB. It does not indicate protection from UVA rays, which are responsible for deeper damage, including tanning, wrinkles, pigmentation changes and premature skin aging. Currently, there is no rating system for UVA protection. Made in USA.

Key features

  • Broad spectrum protection from the sun’s damaging rays; SPF 65
  • Contains a complete and total photoreceptive/cellular protection system
  • Reflects, refracts, absorbs, and scatters UVB/UVA

not effective as descriptions

I decided to give it a try because of the previous good reviews of using it for outdoor activities …After received it, I have been using it for months mostly for my water sessions, which are about an hour to two hours each session. I will not reapply it after getting out to the water, and i think it should be able to protect my skins for at least an hour or two … however, it doesn’t, my skins still get tan after each session, and the worse is the sun spots on my face are darkening … and I have to use a special face cream to fade the unwanted sun spots after showering … so what’s the point of using it???for outdoor activities, i don’t think it can fully protect human skins from the damage of sun exposure, like i said earlier, and it is much more expensive then those sun blocks (around ten dollars) in the drugstores. I didn’t return it because I couldn’t tell the actual result from using it on the first few times; however, after 30 days of ordering it, i confirm its ineffectiveness when i have used it more …well…two stars are for its light weight, non-greasy texture, and decent smell, so it can be applied under the foundation for daily use; however, there are tons of similar products that gals can use it under the foundation and are much cheaper; or tons of foundation already have spf. perhaps guys’ skins aren’t that delicate as gals’ … my husband uses it too … but i still see his sun spots on his face … he just doesn’t care about that … doesn’t mean that works though

Our standard sunblock for the past 3 years

We – as in the entire family – have been using Neutrogena’s sunblock spray for at least 3 years and we’ve been happy with it whether at home by the pool or at the beach, including some tropical ones, where we use the higher SPF versions. Besides helping us avoid sunburns, and it does, there are a few more reasons that made this product our favorite.- It’s a spray – this makes it easy to apply. I wouldn’t call applying sunblock ‘fun’ but spraying is less of a chore than rubbing it in.- There’s no need to rub it in – yes, we do use a light rub after spraying to even the distribution but it’s mostly to avoid wasting it.- No oily goo on your skin – which partially explains why rubbing it in is not mandatory. This spray is remarkably oil-free.- Swimming pool friendly (see above) – not much oil in it, which allows our entire family to use the pool with the sunblock.- No overpowering smell – it does smell a little like ‘vacation’ but, even if you spray it in a room, the smell goes away rather quickly and while it stays it’s not unpleasant.- Friendly to my skin – I tend to be allergic to things on my skin that contain perfumes but I don’t mind Neutrogena’s sunblock at all. There is no PABA in this product.- Water/sweat resistant – it’s true.- Effective for several hours – even after swimming. I use to reapply a little after a second swim but, even though I sometimes forget, I haven’t been burned, literally speaking in quite a while. The one claim the maker makes and I dispute is the ‘resists running into eyes’. I don’t even understand what ‘resists running’ means but I would NOT have this applied anywhere near my eyes because if it does run into your eyes it WILL hurt. We are actually using theNeutrogena Healthy Defense Sunblock Stickaround the eyes. It’s probably worth noting that this is a Helioplex-based sunblock, which is the main ingredient. I looked it up and it turns out it’s formulated to provide UVA/UVB skin protection and it contains Avobenzone (for protection) and Oxybenzone (to help make it stay effective longer).

SPF 70 Unnecessary

Hi folks,I’m a dermatologist and wanted to share a tip with you all about sunblock. Anything above SPF 45 is just for consumer purposes, to sell to you a product that you think is more beneficial than lower SPF’s.You see, the way sunblock works is SPF 30 will get you about 97% protection against the sun. SPF 45 will get you 98% protection. However, anything above SPF 45 (such as 50, 70, 100, etc.) is when it gets silly and more about companies trying to make more money. You’d think SPF 50 or 70 would get you 99%, even 100% protection against the sun if SPF 45 is 98%, but it actually lingers around 98%.So spending 2 to 4 times more money on a higher SPF is only getting you the equivalent of SPF 45 or 0.1 to 0.5% more protection than a SPF 45. It’s impossible to attain 100% protection from the sun so I can guarantee you no amount of SPF will protect you perfectly, but it’s good to know that the protection stops at 98-98.5%. Which means SPF 50, 70, 100, etc. are all unnecessary expensive products. It’s also something that gives people peace of mind.SPF 30 is more than sufficient protection, SPF 45 is ideal (the most you can gain from sunblock, really). So next time you shop for sunblock and you see a SPF 45 for $10 bucks and SPF 110 for $20, go with the 45.Oh and I enjoy this product, I use the SPF 45 of course, but when it comes to sunblock I’ve always used this brand.

A MUST for everyday use!

Some Neutrogena products work for me and some don’t-this is one that exceeds all other Neutrogena products! I have oily acne prone skin that is very pale. Over the years I have built up less sun tolerance, and a need for sunscreen daily because of the use of other products that my skin very sensitive to sunlight. It does leave a slight white sheen on the face-but because of this I only need a powder and not a liquid foundation as well. I have never burned when using this sunblock and my skin does not breakout because of it. Some sunblocks make my skin turn red and get a burning sensation around this eyes-this does neither and my eyes never water after application. This is both a chemical and physical sunscreen. It does have the spf smell even though it says it is fragrance free (depending on the tube/box you get) but it is nowhere near as bad as other sunscreens. Although it is suppose to be reapplied frequently-I apply it twice a day and most and do not have trouble with burning.A note to Neutrogena-please start distributing in Australia/Asia! Outstanding sun protection is needed there more than anywhere else!Active Ingredients I got off the tube: avobenzone 3%, homosalate 15%, octisalate 5%, octocrylene 10%, oxybenzone 6%Skin type: somewhat pigmented, acne prone, oily, 20-something, few lines, semi-sensitive

Some problems

I purchased this sunscreen because we were going on a sunny beach vacation and I wanted to prevent any further sun damage. Unfortunately, this must not have been enough or I didn’t reapply as often as I should have because I got new brown spots on my face. In addition, I noted that if you don’t spread it extremely well and have a darker skin tone it will leave you with a ghost face. However I do have to say that this sunscreen is much more light weight than any other one I ever tried and it did not make my oily face any oilier.
