We got this becaue I’m a very stressed out mama and it is very calming the only issue is sometimes its got the weird lotion feel… Where it doesn’t feel right when you rub it in.. Kinda like cheap lotion. Other than that it is good.
So I have been using this product for years. The other night as I was rocking my baby to sleep after I had just bathed and rubbed some all over her I was biting my nails and I kept thinking “What’s that horrible smell??” I was wracking my brain to try and figure out where it was coming from. I smelled my daughter and sure enough YUCK!!! The reformulated product smells DISGUSTING. It smells like bug repellant or some strange synthetic chemical I cannot place. This really breaks my heart because I LOVED this lotion. It used to smell so fresh and clean. In fact I loved ALL of the CB products but every single one of them aside from the bubble bath now has this odd smell and no longer seems to do the same things for my family’s skin. There will be 6 more lost customers than have been loyalists to the CB line.=( CB and me have broken up.=(
Years Later Still Using It
I got this for my newborn 5 years ago, and has been using it ever since. I’m not going to lie, I tried others that I thought could be better, or cheaper, or safer. I stopped using for few months because I read a lot of bad review for this lotion, I mean, nobody wants sharp crystallized lotion on their skin. After few bottles of other baby lotions I had to be back to California Baby. Other lotions were either too greasy, too hard to apply, too strong smelled. This just perfect, lightweight enough but still very moisturizing, smells subtle, and absorbs very quick no greasy feeling. I guess I’ve been very lucky that I never experience a bad batch until now. I’m going to continue to use it. I would update my review if anything should change.
A wonderful non-toxic, moisturizing and non-irritating lotion!
Considering how much lotion a baby uses, it’s nice to find a lotion that is completely non-toxic. Who wants a bunch of chemicals soaking into their baby’s skin? If you are familiar with the EWG website, you’ll notice that this is one of the safest baby lotions available.I’ve used quite a few natural baby lotions, and this is probably one of my favorite ones. It doesn’t leave a greasy film. It soaks in completely. It does a great job of moisturizing skin. It doesn’t sting small cuts and scrapes. It helps my daughter’s skin when she’s had some patches of eczema. Not only that, it smells REALLY nice. It’s not overpowering whatsoever. It’s very light, crisp and refreshing.I also want to mention that you can also use this as your own facial lotion. I have dry skin that seems to break out when I use most natural lotions. However, I haven’t ever experienced any skin break-outs as a result of this lotion.I also wanted to mention that because this is free of preservatives – it doesn’t have a long shelf life. When one of my bottles was around 7 months old, I noticed that it was beginning to smell a little sour. If you end up receiving quite a few of these bottles (if you end up with like, 5 at your baby shower for example) you may want to keep them in the fridge or make sure to use them up.
Great gluten-free lotion for adults, too
I love the scent of this lotion, and it does a great job on my skin. I have celiac disease, and finding gluten-free cosmetics is always a challenge. I was in love with a body lotion with a great vanilla-lavender scent until I broke out in a bumpy rash and found out gluten was the culprit. It’s so nice to have a lavender-scented gluten-free substitute for it. Though I use this as a body lotion, I have put it on my face as well when out of my usual moisturizer, and it does a good job as a gluten-free facial moisturizer as well.
