Looked like cinnamon in my hair

I am a total dry shampoo girl and wanted to give this a go. Unfortunately I was not pleased. It turned a cinnamon like color and you could see it in my part as if my scalp was a tan color so very obvious. I can barely dust this on and it still gives that effect. It also didn’t add any volume or make my hair feel clean. I won’t repurchase. The spray dry shampoos are just better. Period. (On a side note, I recommend Pssst dry shampoo-smells like coconut and never leaves residue in my dark hair, also very inexpensive and can be found at Ulta)

It’s okay

While the Cake Satin Sugar Powder works fine to freshen unwashed hair, its no better than baby powder, which makes it too expensive in my book. The color is supposed to be for darker hued hair, but it was way too light to blend well into my medium brown hair. The powder is more of a flesh tone color as opposed to cocoa. I will probably use this mostly on my skin instead of my hair and will not re-order.

Quick fix

I have been using this for a few years now. This is an amazing quick fix!. I only wash my hair twice a week and use cake powder in between washes when my hair starts to get too oily. I took a star off because I have black hair and the darkest color they offer is a lighter brown. I have to make sure to really work it into my hair so that I don’t look like I just spent the morning clearing dust bunnies from under the beds. My boyfriend loves the way it smells. Just a tiny sprinkle goes a long way. One of these bottles lasts a long time. I would recommend this to someone looking for a quick solution between washes.

Tricky but ok

This is another Cake Beauty product I wanted to love…it was hard to get open…I had to pull the top off, bash the plastic circle off (almost broke the lid) and then reassemble. It was hard to apply without making a mess, tricky at best and I am pretty handy with dry shampoos. I generally steer clear of powders like this for the mess factor but the alcohol in the aerosols made me reconsider. The brown powder was nice and had a great texture and smell but i noticed it all over my part on my scalp and around my hairline which wasn’t flattering and required a quick clean up. It absorbed oil fairly nicely without weighing my hair down and making it stiff, however didn’t give me that fresh clean look I get from Batiste dry shampoo or the umph and volume it promises. If you don’t like the sweet smell right off the bat, then wash your hair because it does have some staying power but I liked it and didn’t find it overpowering. All in all, it was ok, tricky to use and kind of expensive considering I didn’t get any sort of a ha moment or lights from above shining down on me when I was done applying it 🙂 I would most likely make my own at home with essential oils, corn starch and cocoa powder rather than spend the money on this. Tip-use a large, clean makeup brush for easier application.Edit: Since I have gotten better at the application I really like this powder and even the brown color I find if I apply it neatly fills in my part and makes my hair looks more voluminous.

Smells wonderful, great for light brunettes

I have purchased both the version for darker hues as well as the shimmering version. Both are wonderful. The scent is subtle and very pleasant. They reliably volumize and erase oily roots for several days after shampooing. I think this powder might actually make truly dark hair look ashy, but on my medium/lit golden brown hair, it is perfect. This version does not have shimmer as the other version by Cake does. The packaging (like most powders in shakers is not suitable for traveling, but that’s the only slight negative. I leave this at home so it’s not a problem. One of my favorite hair powders, and I have tried dozens!

It’s OK.

It’s not brown enough for dark brown hair. I hoped it would be but it’s not. It’s better than white though! I sprinkle this on a large face brush and brush it into my hair, like you would put powder on your face. Easy application, no spills. It’s nice, but with my dark hair, it’s not a repurchase for me.
