I use a cotton swab with this solution on my face. It can feel like burning at first and it does dry out my zits quickly. After I re-apply it (2-3 times a day) the second day I see a significant relief in the breakouts. It smells alcoholey, but bearable. What I do like about this is that the ingredients and it does calm down the redness and size of the zits as well as dry them out. I have occasional breakouts and after I used this, it cleared them up in a few days.
Seemed to make acne worse on my son
The product smells great. The primary active ingredient is Salicylic acid. I liked that it was all natural, but it did not deliver. My son kept saying he thought it was making his acne worse, and his acne did seem to be spreading but I thought maybe it was just a breakout and encouraged him to keep using it. After about a week and a half, we both were in agreement that it seemed to be making it worse. When he stopped using it, his breakouts quit and his face cleared up.That said, we were using the Burt’s Bees gel cleanser and this product together. The gel cleanser has the same active ingredient and cleans the skin well without drying it, then this is for treating active spots of acne. The cleanser is great, and I’ll keep buying it – but the spot treatment just was a disaster and we ended up tossing it out.
I love you Burt’s Bees!
At the beginning of 2013, I decided that I was going to try and go natural and clean up the beauty products I was using. In December, I was using LUSH products, which I thought were natural (turns out, most of them aren’t at all), and they worked for awhile but ended up making me break out after using them for a few weeks. During Christmas Break, I didn’t want to see anyone or take any pictures because I was that ashamed of my face. I have NEVER broken out so bad and it seemed like no matter what I did, nothing worked. I desperately searched for natural products and after stumbling upon a website called GoodGuide.com, I found this spot treatment by Burt’s Bees. This was highly rated on the site and, because I love Burt’s Bees, I thought it was a great idea to start using it. I checked it out on Amazon and it was also highly reviewed-I was sold. I went to my local Wal-Mart and picked this baby up for about $10. I thought the price was a little steep for a spot treatment, I was used to paying about $5-6, but it was so highly rated and it had natural ingredients so I went with it.I have been using this spot treatment in my daily face regime for about a month and I must say, my face has almost completely cleared up and I am so happy. Even scars that I had are almost completely gone. Burt’s Bees, you are the miracle worker I have been searching for! I love that this product works but that it is also natural. My other face products are natural as well and are highly rated on GoodGuide.com and I think that also has to do with my face clearing up as well (if you are interested in what else I use, look up my reviews for The Body Shop Aloe line face wash and lotion). One thing that I would suggest when using this product is to make sure that your hands are clean before applying to your face. I use my fingers to apply because I feel like putting the liquid on a cotton ball or Q-tip wastes product because it soaks it up. I make sure my hands are clean before using and I use different fingers to apply on different areas so I do not spread bacteria. All in all, I love this product. The smell is a little strong but I can get over that one negative because the product works for me. I definitely think it is a little pricey but, they sell a pack of 3 on Amazon and it is only $20 so definitely buying it on here in bulk is a much better price than just buying one at the store like I did. I am still on my first bottle of this and, because I use it multiple times a day and almost all over my face, it is about halfway gone. I think this one bottle will last me about 2-3 months and I am okay with that because of how well it works. I would highly recommend this to anyone who would like a natural spot treatment for their acne.
I have oily/acne prone skin and I am always looking to cure my skin problems internally and externally. I’ve had this product for 6 months now and it seems to work about 30% of the time. I’m an almost 30 year old woman and we obviously have hormonal imbalances and suffer from monthly triggers that add to the problem. A few products have worked for me, this just isn’t one of them. I am African-American, have red cheeks often, white heads, a constantly greasy face, sensitive skin and sometimes cystic acne. This product can sting at times, but can soothe at times as well. It dries very fast so you have to apply it before it dries. It doesn’t smell good, kind of like grass mixed with lemon (not lemongrass). It also smells a bit like furniture polish mixed with an anti-fungal cream. It is not good.Overall, it works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn’t. It is not meant for my skin type, so if you have my skin type you may not want to purchase this. It works for some people, but it’s just ok to me.
I’ve only used this spot treatment a few times and I think it works ok. This was not an overnight miracle worker for me like some other reviewers claim, but the size and redness of my pimples did go down.First, the smell is very medicinal. To me, it smells like anise extract or black licorice. It eventually goes away, but at first, it’s very strong. The bottle itself is a little tricky. I have to very carefully drip some of the treatment onto a q-tip and then dab it on. The only thing I hate about that it that the cotton tip tends to absorb more than I’m able to put on my face, so I feel like I’m wasting product.Lastly, the price isn’t great for what it claims to do. I will probably stick with my other treatment, just not super impressed with this product, considering I use everything else in Burt’s Bees acne control line.
hard to use efficiently so it ends up being too expensive.
This is pretty good at reducing mild acne flairs, but you have to spread it all around. Unfortunately the cap is terrible at dispensing the product. The dropper is hard to use. I ended up opening it and using a q-tip, but then a lot of product gets absorbed into the q-tip and ultimately goes unused. That makes this product end up being very expensive for the number of uses. I’m going to try to replicate this by buying my own essential oils and mixing them, because if it works that will be a much cheaper solution.
Works for me
I used this whole bottle up in less than a month, I must really like it or have lots of zits ha ha! Actually I used it a lot at work if I felt a possible flare up coming and it calmed my skin right down. It smells medicinal but I like that and it goes on clear and the scent eventually fades or dissipates. I have to order more but I’ve been buying too many things on Amazon to make this a priority. Summer is coming which often means some break outs for me so I’m ordering this again. 😉
works okay for me – don’t mix with tea tree oil toner
First: I’m Asian, middle-aged and pre-menopausal so my skin is having its ups and downs. Acne medications normally over dry my skin and irritate it; I do consider myself to have sensitive skin with an oilier forehead and nose area and tight and dry skin elsewhere. This acne treatment can sting on broken skin or if applied too often. It does work but I don’t think faster than other products. It has not over dried my skin. It does not make a painful starting pimple disappear overnight but seems to keep it from becoming larger and more painful. It smells like sweet licorice to me, which I don’t mind.A cotton swab applicator is necessary to prevent a mess.Update:This is a few weeks later of using this as directed. Applying twice a day seems too much on my skin now. The liquid spreads out farther than anticipated and has resulted in itchy patches of dry, flaking skin, despite my not having used it for about a week now. I think application must be more precise and less frequent; I don’t think this is an allergic reaction but a reaction of my particular skin. I probably will not purchase again.Second update: I believe the initial problem was I was using a weak tea tree oil/water as a toner beforehand. I stopped using everything until my skin returned to normal, have started again with a weak apple cider vinegar toner and this product but maybe only once a day. This seems to work for now.
Would not repurchase
Doesn’t help much with blemishes. It’s pretty messy and hard to apply. I found it to be a little irritating to my skin, and it does sting if you apply to much which can be a problem given how difficult it is to put the right amount on a cotton ball then apply to your face. I would just recommend purchasing the cream version if you had to go with this brand. Not really worth the money and you only get a small amount.
A good alternative to chemical treatments.
Seems to work very quickly on some zits, and kind of okay on others. But I think it works overall and I’m liking it. Smells a little bit like mosquito repellent though, which can get a little bleh on occasion.
Not worth it
I’ve been getting really awful breakouts for the past year or so, and decided to try one last product before I went to my doctor about it. Since I love Burt’s Bees products, I picked this up at the store. I’ve been using it about a week, and I haven’t noticed any difference in my breakouts. I was hoping this would dry up some of the smaller ones quickly, but unfortunately I’ve not noticed any change. Honestly I think it caused a massive breakout in the area I used it most often. Secondly, this is the most inconvenient packaging!! You’re supposed to tip it over onto your finger, but when I did either nothing came out or too much shot out and dripped off the side of my finger. Plus, the liquid dries super fast. So I’ve resorted to dumping it out in the palm of my hand and trying to swipe it on all my problem areas before it dries, which wastes a lot of product. Disappointed.
Love this product
I love this product! It treats just the pimple without drying out my face. This product helps stop breakouts and reduces the size and redness of existing breakouts. This is a must have in my skin care routine!
Strong, but not too strong
I applied this product to a cystic pimple on my chin. It took several days for it to go down, but using this product got rid of it much quicker than using other products. I have fairly sensitive skin as well. I love Burt Bee’s products!

Nice, although a little strong smelling! I would say that a little goes a long way, because the smell of tea tree oil can be overwhelming!
Works well but burns!
Use this with care, it really does smart if you use it right after the acne cleanser. While it works very well I wouldn’t recommend using it before going to work. Your face will be a festive shade of red, which may or may not work for you. If you want to use a spot treatment that works just as well but don’t want to deal with the smarting sensation, I’d say use the new spotting treatment (it’s a lotion form which goes on smooth and is a lotion as opposed of a liquid)
